'87 fuel-miser Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 had to get gas last night , so i pull into the local self-serve station . i go in and tell the attendant " $20.00 on the red jeep " so , she looks out at the pumps and says , " i don't see any jeep out there ? " i say , it's right there on pump #1 ! she replys , "that's not a wrangler" i say , your right ! it isn't a wrangler , it's a jeep comanche ! she says " that's a jeep ? " so i told her a brief history not wanting to take up time and p/o others in line ! being young ( late teens /early 20's i'm sure she had never seen another ... hopefully now she knows not all jeeps are " wrangler's " ! ahh , the product of a differant generation ! not the first time this has happened ... anyone else ??? . :MJ 1: .
H3RESQ Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I had a Suzuki Sidekick (Geo Tracker) lifted on Yota axle's. I always thought it was funny when I would here...."nice samauri", but even funnier was the occasional..."nice jeep".
AeroNautical Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I've gotten that before. To some people, the only jeeps are the wranglers, libertys, patriots and compass. Bull effin sheet... I promptly put them in their place.
Rymanrph Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I had an employee that kept referring to her "Jeep." To her Jeep and SUV were interchangeable; she drove a two door Explorer Sport.
GirsMJ86 Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 This is the reason I run stock tailgates and display the lettering proudly. At least from behind everyone knows I am in a jeep. They can figure out for themselves if it is factory or a custom thing by pulling out their phone and googling. I teach history to those who want to learn I figure. What I love are the older generations that remember these trucks or the J10 when I had it and they take the time to watch me drive past before getting in their car or you hear them go "...manche, I have not seen one of those..." As you cruise by them in a parking lot.
sinkrun Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 When I bought mine a guy around 45 I would guess was doing the title work. Seemed to be taking a while then I could hear louder pounding on the keys on his computer. He was getting quite upset I asked him if the system was down at the DMV. He says no it keeps saying its a truck and I don't know why. I started laughing and said look out side he stood up and said what the hell is that?? Jeep truck I told him and damn he says never seen or heard of one of them.
TheDirtyJeep401 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I was neck and neck with an Xj and he stopped at the light and I was in the turning lane. He looked like he saw a ghost, trying to figure out what the heck I was driving.
Dirteatr717 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I took a girl out on a date not too long ago and she kept denying that I was driving a jeep and saying that it was a pickup... I said you're right it's a Jeep pickup and I doubt you'll ever ride in another one hahah
TheDirtyJeep401 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I took a girl out on a date not too long ago and she kept denying that I was driving a jeep and saying that it was a pickup... I said you're right it's a Jeep pickup and I doubt you'll ever ride in another one hahah hahahha I argued with a girl once about my MJ, I told her I drive a Jeep truck and she said there is a diffrence between a Jeep and a truck. I said no Jeep made a jeep truck and I drive one. She still didnt believe me so I told her to look outside in the parking lot and tell me what it looks like to you. That shut her up
AMCJeepMJ Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I get people calling mine a Cherokee but that's about it. I also get older [than me] folks [40+] trying to chat me up in parking lots or gas stations about the truck about maybe once a month.
HKB3 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I work with a guy that still calls my MJ an S-10 and this is the second MJ I have had since working with him. I have explained a few times that it is a jeep but he still calls it a S-10.

I have explained a few times that it is a jeep but he still calls it a S-10. I'd be offended by that. I've never seen an S-10 that even the saddest MJ couldn't put to shame.

They have no understanding whatsoever that "Jeep" is a brand name. To the it's a generic descriptor, like "truck" or "sedan."
RubberDuck Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Everyone around here thinks its a Mazda. i just shake my head and point at the J.E.E.P. on the nose.
comanchedude Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 a little kid called mine a monster truck... that was cool
ParadiseMJ Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I went to the dump (er, "Landfill") and a guy came up to me and asked me why I put Jeep badges on my Ranger...I told him the badges came from the Jeep factory "Does that thing actually have 4 wheel drive??" He was driving a Sonoma, with 20" wheels.
H3RESQ Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Yesterday I pulled up next to two girls in a Pathfinder on 31's. They look over and driver says "NICE TRUCK, who makes that?"...So there I was sitting in traffic explaining.....
dscowell Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 my girlfriends dad still believes my MJ is a cherokee but that's all I get. Lot of double takes and long stares from older people driving Jeeps.
88whitemanche Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Friday after noon I was driving home and a chick in a jeep wrangler couldn't stop staring at my jeep...rolling around me and just kept staring. Two hours later I'm at a. Stop light and a guy with his son across the street was in a jeep grand cherokee but one of the newer ones but when he spoke you can read his lips saying "hey look an older jeep cherokee" when the light turned green and I drove forward and I laughed because all I saw him mouthing "no way! It's a jeep truck"
RubberDuck Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Happened to me today, in the Home Depot parking lot. First someone pointed it out to his son and said "thats a bad little truck, i used to have one of those." -pride. later, I was still waiting for the tow-truck and they went past me, looking for a red jeep. I had to flag him down and explain that a red Jeep doesnt mean always mean a XJ or CJ, and that Jeep actually made a truck.
TheDirtyJeep401 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 someone pointed it out to his son and said "thats a bad little truck, i used to have one of those." Then apparently he didnt take care of it.
Oddmodman Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Yeah I was walking out of the library once and an old lady left at the same time. She saw me open the door to my little black pickup that said J E E P on the tailgate, and she said, "I don't think I've ever seen a Jeep truck before." "Yes ma'am, not many of them made. They're kinda rare." I don't remember how she responded.
