mountainman
So i was looking at some more threads as i plan on many mods coming soon. Well i re read more info on axles, and ran out to my truck to refresh my memory as i was CERTAIN i had an 8.25 chrysler under there..... get out there.. look..... ... d35!!!! :wall: ...... :fs1: That doesnt cut it for me. SO i decided i needed to head to the junk yard pronto for some ideas and see what was out there at current. I walk down the row to where the jeeps are.... i get close...W T F!!!!!!!! what is THIS doing in there!! NO WAY!!!! I walk around it amazed at its minty condition... this is a tragedy of epic proportions. Likely a donation by some @$$ clown.. to some charity... :fs2: Then it hits me... look underneath jackass..... NO WAY!!!!!  I drove home 100 mph to get tools. Called my 6'5" beast of a friend and headed back out there. A manch D44! its MINE!!!! So now all i have to do is regear it. I have no less than 30 4.10 R&Ps for less than 75 bucks saved on my favs list. And i build differentials no sweat. So ill regear and be STOKED! 20 mins and it was out. My tech question is. Do i need to go back and get the driveline out of that truck, or will the one i have be same length and work fine? d35 to d44. ANyone need anything off this truck? its DEEP in bomb @$$ parts. The shell is MINT. bed liner, perfect tail gate, everything is sweet. And of course I'm down on funds right now or id try and buy the bed for a trailer... :headpop: Ill prob go back for the hood as mine is off a chero, doesnt fit perfect and has dents. This one is CLEAN.
Geonovast
D35 and D44 snout lengths are different, so they do not use the same driveshaft. Many things affect the driveshaft length.. engine, trans, T-case, bed length. If the JY MJ matches your truck perfectly on all that, you'll want to grab that one, otherwise your best bet will probably be having yours shortened. mountainman
Its an exact truck. 91, LWB, 4.0 5 speed NP231. 3.07 gears. So i will go back tmrw and grab that driveline. Its wired up inside the truck, by the tow driver who towed it. I didnt know it was even there till i looked. WAY up under the bed. Wired tight. :) I though that would be the case, as this diff looks much longer/snout than mine. So i looked at the drivline and went.. i should grab that.... NAAAAH. lol!!! back i go! Pete M
your junkyards are just depressing to us rustbelt folks. :( what's that truck doing in there anyway?! that's just wrong... according to the numbers in the driveshaft thread: assuming identical bed sizes and drivetrains, the Dana 35 driveshaft will be one inch longer than a Dana 44 driveshaft (because the 44's snout is one inch longer than the 35's). good if you're adding a small lift, not so good if you're staying stock. 87Warrior
Daaaaaang, that truck is clean! D44 rear ends use a 1330 series u joint vs the 1310 found with the 35 (and 30). If you do end up using your factory driveshaft (shortened) you will need a 1330/1310 u joint. As Correy stated, if the yard truck had the same driveline combo as your current truck, the driveshaft from the yard truck will simply bolt in. mountainman
Oh yeah, anyone want to verify that I'm right or wrong in that, all the stuff i see online says.. this tag thats at 5 O clock on the diff cover, is to say it has a factory LSD in it.. right? It just keeps gettin better. hehehe. 137 for an axle... WIN!!! but with fees and core and tax.... 175 otd. Still a sweet deal to me.
HOrnbrod
Just curious: what do MJ D44s go for at your yards out there?
mountainman
you must have been posting right as i posted my last one. See it? 137.50. then a 20 dollar core. And tax. So i payed 175 OTD.

Pete M
hmmm, looks like there's either a slight delay in the postings, or the software is failing to let us know that someone has posted since we started typing. :dunno: weird.
sinkrun
how much for the tail lights? oh take that bed off and drive it to the east coast!
Eagle
So i will go back tmrw and grab that driveline. You mean "driveshaft." The driveline (or "drive train") is everything that connects the engine to the rear wheels.
cruiser54
Grab the cab vent plastic deallies off the outside of the cab!
mountainman
ok. :) and.. ok. The truck has 99k miles on it, the junk yard one. So this axle should be in decent shape... but the fluid that came out looked like motor oil that had 10k miles on it. BLACK. So.. we shall see. MJRemi
You should also grab the bucket seats if they are not messed up. A lot of members want the seats and/or brackets. I would love to get that topper for my 88.
mountainman
You should also grab the bucket seats if they are not messed up. A lot of members want the seats and/or brackets. I would love to get that topper for my 88. IT has a tan bench in it. Dude i want that camper shell also, i have one now but i like that style more. Maybe you can have a look at mine, and if you want it we can do a trade deal. Drive up from LA and grab one of the 2. I have to ask them what they even want for it. *just checked their site* looks like it would be 55 bucks. Id gladly sell mine for 55 bucks. That is of course if you liked it. If not, this ones yours. last thing i need right now is to drop 55 bucks on a shell i will rarely use. I just have a high dollar one that came with my manch that is not the style i prefer. So i run pickup status all the time. Shells in the back yard.
sinkrun
Did you get the shock mount plates? One of mine is pretty bad don't remember which one if there not to much and you don't need them grab for me. Thanks
Pete M
definitely get the plates. they look like the one-piece style :)
TylerJY
Headliner? Is it 2wd? If so, I want the leaf springs This is if you're willing to ship these things.
skidoo_j
wow, I can't believe how clean it looks. I'd love it if were closer to me, I'd have pulled the tail gate and tail lights, the bump stops the rear portion vlv looks good. the electrical plug that is at the back that controls the tail lights. mountainman
I did grab the shock plates for extras for me, but if your in need i can ship ya one. Especially if they are same as the ones i already have. ill be SOA before too long anyways. (has anyone ever used the orig shock plates for an SOA?) just have shock connected above leafs? As for the headliner, someone got that already. Its 4wd. skidoo, if you want stuff let me know. As with any part or any person on here... if its something you really need then PM me and lets talk. Ill ship it and stuff, just as long as the part and shipping are covered and some gas money for me. I'm not gonna charge an arm and a leg to go get parts. I don't mind helping folks out cause i know how this is, as ive said before I'm a preservationist since I'm into old vw buses and antiques anyways. So when something is rare and parts are needed, i don't want to see a single thing go to waste. Cause if you guys don't get these parts.. these a$$holes could care less. They will crush this truck just as it sits. Complete. Ive seen em do it. It pisses me off to no end. Id rather get the whole truck out and get it driving again. But that takes an executive order to get done :fs1: There is like a dozen 4.0's in nice shape in this yard (225 each with 25 dollar core), 2 2.5s and i found an 88 chrysler 8.25 with 4.10s that i was debating on too. SO much cool stuff. Hell this manch had bilsteins on it, that don't look too bad. I'm gonna inspect those tmrw... 5.50 per shock? really..lol
Keyav8r
Any idea what they want for the tailgate? Don't know how much freight would be from LV to AL (and the freight line would probably fold, bend and mutilate it), but that tailgate looks sweet!
mountainman
Their site shows 82.50 for tail gates. A bit steep but i mean, they don't make them anymore. lol. And as for shipping i would send it greyhound. Thats always the best way. Ive sent huge bench seats on there for under 50 bucks. A friend sent a bus nose and another sent a couch! lol. Greyhound has empty buses just for shipping. Works great. Again, lemme know. I have paypal. So we can make stuff happen.
mountainman
Also forgot to mention, WHILE we were pulling this axle...my buddy says... dude! get up and look! The junk yard guys are pulling parts to be sold through their website (pre pulled parts) and they are piling them onto a truck to haul back up to their wherehouse... what kind of truck would you guess they were using? lol. A SWB white comanche. LOADED to the roofline with stuff.
