What's the taxable value of your MJ?

I got my tax bill for my Comanche and the tax value is $790 (which is a lot higher than they valued my '91 YJ at $128 a couple years ago). I'm curious to see how other states/counties value our trucks.

What is "taxable value"? Are you refering to the licence plate renewal fee?

In WI, I paid sales tax when it was registered, then it was a set fee for plates every year. Last time I paid that, it was $75.

 

In MO, I'll have to pay personal property tax on the 99 XJ(only valid registration now), but I believe the plates stay the same. Paid $31 for 1 year plates, next year I can get 2 year plates for $62.

here in NB Canada they are trying to up date their books as they only go back to 95... so I have to have the mj or any other jeep I buy apprazed for the sales tax I have to pay. then ( I have yet to do this) they want me to pay $350 to have it apprazed buy an old car apprazer for it actual value to update their books for the yearly renewal...

Like I am going to pay to up date their books so I can pay more every year.. LOL

and then the said thing is the guy that does the apprazle has no idea about a jeep so he will stand their and ask me.. hahahhahaaa

he does old bikes aswell and has never road a bike... so he asked myself or my brother over the phone.. unreal

I had to have my jeep appraised.. Oh boy did I EVER give the system a run for their money.

 

I was in the middle of a 2wd to 4x4 swap so there was no front axle on the jeep, the floor boards were ALL rotted out so I cut huge panels out of the floor and there was also no tranny in the jeep at the time. We are talking MJ here. So there was mud everywhere on it, dings and scratches like you wouldn't believe.

 

In order to register your vehicle here in Ontario, if it is more then 20 years old, you need an appraisal. So the guy showed up from the classic vehicle appraisal place in town, took one look at my jeep at one look at me and said right... as if he was just going to pack up and leave. But I told him I was serious and I was paying him for his time, I explained that I was in the middle of a 4x4 swap and what not. Unfortunately for the gov't they cannot ding me for what my vehicle will be after my mods, but only at the time of the actual apraisal, so I LUCKED OUT HARD and got an appraisal value of 150 dollars, which means I paid ROUGHLY 15 dollars in tax, one time only

I've been in two states that taxed the vehilce on its valve, or at least purchase value. Then it depreciated over the years. In both states, OK and IN, after a certian time you paid a flat rate. So, I was apying less for my '75 Bricklin than other cars worth less. I think I paid $24 per year. In IN I was paying about $12, then $12 or so for registration. They've up the fees though. You are allowed to take that off of Fed taxes if you itemize. I think my '00 Contour SVT was $200 in '03. It's down to about $50 now. New vehilces are like $400 or more.

IN has no yearly inspections. Also, it is kind of relative. I have lived in PA a few times. Property taxes for housing is at least double in PA than IN. Also, I had to pay an occupation tax. I was paying like $300/yr. since I put down machinist. I was only making $7/hr back then. People making more were paying less.

so theres noone to make sure peoples cars r safe every year? There must b alot of accidents due to brakes,tires, etc...you know, the minor stuff that old ladys and lazy people never check

No noone left the state, so there is no one here to check the cars. :D We relie on the Darwin Principal. Less taxes. People die sooner or latter. If they don't care about themselves, life short anyways.

Actually, when I first got here in the early 90's, there were some pretty pitaful cars running around. I actually brought out a '78 Honda Civic that probabaly wouldn't have passed PA inspection to much longer. But jobs have come out here, so people can aford new or better cars. Still, a few clunkers around. I look at one of the High School parking lots. There cars are way better than what I remember in HS in PA. Actually, they are better than what I see at work, or what I drive.

PA is a good state. I wish IN had the trout streams. It all comes down to how much services you want and what you are willing to pay for them, ie taxes.

Safety inspections are a load of BS. When my 99 XJ was inspected, they freaked out about the 3rd brake light being burnt out, and that it "didn't have the proper number of exhaust clamps", but didn't give a rat's @$$ that the rotors were warped.

I had the machinist tax also in pa when making what you did. Finally found a shop that paid more and was able to change it to "machine operator". Sad thing is Pa says there out of money so I hope I am wrong but I bet we will see this tax in the future here.

i live on the roaring brook, its a crazy trout spot...all the fishermen are blocking my trails!!! i don't trout fish, but every week i go out bass fishing. nice private lake, old man owns...i pull like 5 or 6 big 6+ pounders out of there every year....catch and release.

Illinois sucks the big one. Every time I renew my plates (Yearly), its $98. And when you have more than one vehicle, its like an extra car payment. In fact, when I registered the Metric Ton I just sold :roll: when I left the building, for tax, title, and tags, my wallet was about $260 lighter. :fs1:
