yep, wives have a way of keeping your project vehicles in check. i have been admiring a couple of cars hidden under snowbanks. my wife lets me have it everytime i drive by and look at them. now i'm just going to make some offers and let her chew me out when i get them in the driveway. better to ask forgiveness than for permission, right? :D

I find showing up with a means to get a vehicle out of someones yard works really good if you plan on chewing them down on the price. Also if there wife is there, and he " has to check with her" it makes it more believable that said POS wil be out of the yard.

  • 4 years later...

My wife just opened our bank statement and was like "WHO THE HELL IS BARNS 4WD, AND SUMMIT RACING, AND RONS MACHINING SERVICES????"

I told her that I think the MJ stole the card and went shopping. :dunce:

Thank god i paid cash for my 8.25..... :P

She never bothered me about my expensive golf habits..... But the new "piece of junk" (as she calls it)  that i keep sinking money into is drawing a little negative attention. But i love it... I may just want to string my purchases out instead of dropping a couple grand in a week.

I get the same grief. Many, many cheap purchases totaling 1,000 seems to be ok. But a one time buy of 950, and its like hell broke loose.  :hmm: don't quite get it.

Yeah I just bought an 8.25, front ring and pinion, front locker, new carrier, gear install kit, and new chromoly axles and 720 u-joints. She was not real happy.  :fs2:  My only come back was "well i don't have a 600 dollar a month car payment either, I have to maintain my junk"  LOL  . :MJ 1: .

Wait till the ARB bull bar shows up on there next month and a winch.... The wrath of satan may spawn....

I don't know, I think it's easier to explain away purchases on a card at stores than a bunch of large ATM withdrawls..

I do plenty of repair and metal work on the side to almost pay for my bad habits. It's more of a concern that she gets of putting money into something equals something is wrong with it. My wife loves that I have something to do to keep myself busy! I can even get her out into the garage when I need a hand!... even if it is a little relentless... It's more of the details that not even she wants to know. So many days when I'm home by myself it's, "How was your day?" "Wonderful! I spent all day under the truck pressing in bushings for the leaf springs, then I got the old axle out, put the new one in, started taking a look at the brakes since I'm going to a disk setup, I ran new hard lines, figured out what I want to do for soft lines, started playing around with tire size now that it's almost at the proper ride height, then there's gear ratio since it's a different axle, and then I just fiddled around with a could little things that were bugging me under the rear of it." When really, she'd probably be happy with, "How was your day?" "Wonderful! I did a bunch of Jeep stuff."

the more trucks in the herd, the easier it is to hide a new one among them

You'd think... I find that it puts her more on the lookout.

I don't have a wife but my mom doesn't even look in the direction of my garage anymore because there's too much "junk and parts" in and around it. I sold my Camaro last weekend and she still hasn't noticed that it's not in the driveway hahah I'm Gunna have to fill that space quick with another Manche so shell never know

when ever my wife gives me the look, i just remind her of how much money a year she spends on cigaretts and the fact that i don't smoke. then i also remind her that the sink is full of dishes, the roast is burning, and if diner isn't on the table by 5, she isn't going to get the sunday paper to make her shoes for the week from.
