Lenard Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 just barley missed putting the back of semi tanker truck imprint on the side of my mj. my truck will go from doing 20mph forward to a complete stop to reverse spinning the tires almost 30mph in like 4 seconds. i was not a happy camper this morning. :fs1:

CWLONGSHOT Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Fixed my brakes.... Remember last year when I had that shoe fail on the D44?.. well the other side when yesterday!!! Tonight aft work I pulled it apart and replaced it. the steel cracked tight at the wheel cylinder contact point. Then the shoes, which where only glued to the steel, came off... These new shoes have the liner riveted to the steel... CW

deziped Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Finally swapped the 231 for the 242 this afternoon. Took about 2 1/2 hours. alot of that time spent on upper bolts. Will bolt in rear drive shaft in morning & try it out. Cost: Under $50 for the 242 & new seals. Now I'm gonna have a couple 231's to sell.

deziped Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Well the swapped in 242 works fine. No modifications were needed to any parts involved. Basicly a direct exchange of TC's. Was able to adj the linkage just enough to squeez the extra shift position into the existing shift lever mechanism. I will dremel a little here and there to enlongate the throw just a smidge to ensure a little better engaement at each end of 2H & 4L.
mfpdm Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 Finished the bead locks, got them mounted and ready for the axles. Wait a minute. This thread is "what did you do to your MJ today?" BJA814 Posted November 22, 2009 Posted November 22, 2009 CW, is that a Harbor Freight special?? I cleaned my NSS today so that the truck would actually start. Good link w/ instructions to do so can be found here: http://www.jeepin.com/features/nss/
JeepcoMJ Posted November 23, 2009 Author Posted November 23, 2009 replaced the ignition cylinder (from a 95xj since I did the conversion), lucky I had a spare for a 95 column. Been in L.A. for 6 weeks for work and my bro broke the ignition somehow  , so I also got to start it for the first time in almost 2 months....and I think it's angry with me :( oh, and jumped the battery because he left the dome lights on  back out of town for 3 more days then mounting the second set of 35x12.50r15 dunlop radial mud rovers on my second set of cragar soft 8's (15x8's, 3" BS) and getting them balanced.
