  1. I saw a Comanche at Harrys you Pull it, ( a junkyard) awhile back that had runningboards on it, I must say that it was rotted bad in the rockers, more so then most. I would avoid putting them on.
  2. I used to get a strange sorta humm/winney sound like that in my YJ, 2.5L with TBI. It drove me nuts, it did it VERY randomly, no Rhime or Reason. make a longstory short, one day I got fed up with it. I took a can of white Lithium grease and sprayed a bunch on the shaft part of the Idler pulley. That was two years ago and I haven't heard the noise since. I'd have to say that Comancheman might be right on the money! The only other thing I might ask is how old is the fan belt? an Old fan belt can do the same thing, I almost wouldn't have mentioned it, but sometimes we overlook the obvious.
  3. Are you looking for MJ bucket seats? I have a set that are in fairly decent shape, the brackets are a bit rusted where they were bolted to the floor, but they could be easily fixed. They are that funny Maroon color, what the heck they call it, cordovan or something, but like I say they are in pretty decent condition. If it's bucket seats your looking for send me a PM. I'm in Pennsylvania too so we could meet, or atleast the shipping wouldn't be a zillion dollars
  4. WOW! TALK ABOUT STUPID! 1st. Lets Park the truck out on the ICE, why should we walk that extra 30 feet when we could just drive....... 2nd. Hey since we got that nice big tractor to pull it out, why don't we just hook up to the front end and flip it back over at the same time! 3rd. Maybe we can sell this to Americas funniest home videos! opps wait why do that when we can put it on youtube.com and not make any $$$ MORONS the whole lot of them!
  5. I had a Toyota 4runner rear end me in my YJ years ago, (think it was like 1996?) anyhow I had smittybuilt double tube bumpers front and back at that time. I was at a complete stop and this guy PLOWED into me at about 35mph. I couldn't believe it, and neither could he. The double tube bumper bent, but was stronger then his bumper, and pushed his bumper into his frontend, which made his front fenders bend/kink outwards. My Fullsized Spare tire tookcare of his Hood, grill, radiator etc,,,, The Smittybuilt tube bumper and spare even managed to save my back window! The Guy couldn't even pull his Toyota over to the side of the road! I was able to drive away from it. When his insurance guy came and looked at my jeep, he couldn't believe how little damage I had. I took his check for 900 and change, removed the bent tube bumper and drove it like that till 2003, when I got lucky and got a free tailgate. :brows: One thing I'll never forget, the day of that accident the other driver is standing there, looking at my jeep, his 4runner, my jeep, his 4runner, then he looked at me pointed at his front end and said " The F%#king thing is made of tin foil!" looking back I laugh about it, but I was stupid, I should have sued his @$$, and got some money for the possible vertebra injuries that realy won't show up till I'm old. Hell It would have been the insurance that would have been sued, not him, and they prolly would have settled rather then fight it. Oh well live and learn.
  6. My wife was Rearended in her 2002 XJ about 2 months after we got it. Some ditsy lady in a Dodge Neon plowed right into her, directly in the rear of the Cherokee. Did over 5,000 worth of damage. My wife was upset, my youngest son, (was maybe 2yrs at the time) was in his car seat. My wife was SOOOOO UPSET, she said she never wants to drive again. All I had to do was point out to her, how she did nothing wrong, and look even a a moron smashing into her from behind and she walked away from it without even a scratch! On top of it, she was able to drive the Cherokee home! The other lady tried to bull$#!& the cop, but it was obvious what happend. The Neon needless to say, was TOTALED.
  7. My 1987 MJ has 138,000 on it, got it last year but It's still not on the road yet. My 1991 YJ (which I am the original owner), now has 270,000+ miles it's a Daily Driver, and it makes me about $300 everytime it snows! :brows: My Wifes 2001 XJ (limited) had 14,000 when we bout it in 2002 and is now coming up on 80,000. I promised my YJ I'd refurbish it if it made it to 250,000, so this summer once I get the MJ rolling, it's getting some MUCH needed attention!
  8. For all I know, he is on this site. He's just outside of Hackettstown, New Jersey. I will definately let him know about this website, no doubt about it. This guy is addicted as the rest of us, if not more so!
  9. So ya went 4wheeling and now yer hooked!? hehehe Reminds me of myself, except I was about 15 the first time I went off roading, and I went in this Thats what got me hooked! one word of advice If you wanna PLAY yer gonna PAY. stock 4x4s(even jeeps) break things and need repairs, which even if you do the work, cost money. TRICKED OUT 4x4s break things too, and need repairs, which even if you do the work, cost money So get a good job before you get too hooked!
  10. OK, so I got my 87 comanche last summer, it's still sitting in the driveway and hopefully will be on the road this summer. In the meantime I am still driving my old YJ as a daily driver.Since I got my MJ, I've started to Notice MJ's out there in the world. There is one I see on my way to and from work, parked at a residence. It's white, has a long bed and looks nice. I also noticed the guy has an old CJ or YJ in the driveway, and I've seen an XJ there too. ( I think the XJ is his daily driver as it's not always there). Hell There is an MJ, and XJ and a YJ in my driveway! So I'm thinking this guy thinks alot like me. :brows: So the otherday, on my way home, what do I see in this guys driveway?? An old jeep Forward control  WTF is this guy gonna get next? an old 1960s Gladiator? perhaps a Scrambler? Jeepster?? I do believe I am forced to stop in one day and say hello to this fellow Jeep addict.
  11. I found that using some fabric tacks, (check at Walmart in fabric section), and some fresh material, (also found at wallmart), I was able to redo my headliner for about $16, and it looks REALY good.
  12. When I first started dating my wife, I was driving a CJ-8 Scrambler, She loved that ole jeep. She liked my 19991 YJ when I bought it, (and Still does). She loves the 2001 XJ we bought. As for the MJ, she and my two boys are a BIG part of WHY I bought it. She loves it and just can't wait till it's on the Road, (summer 2008? Hopefully)
  13. I TRY to avoid buying things that aren't made in USA. But thats just plain ole next to impossible these days. As a result I find myself buying OLD stuff at Rummage sales and flea markets more and more often. They just don't make ANYTHING like they used to. I rather buy an old Used MADE in the US then anything coming from China
  14. I'm the owner of a 1991 YJ, bought it brand new. I gotta say, the ride is bouncy, ( I happen to like it that way). Mine has a 2.5L with a 5spd, I put a meyers snow plow on it a few years back. I wouldn't part with this jeep for ANYTHING! It's simply made and easy to work on. The 2.5L has more then enough power for what I need. The first several years I had it it was off roaded ALOT. EVERYTHING on it is original, well almost, It does have a Junk yard tansmission in it now, I did have the rear rebuilt once, and I had to replace the tailgate, (stupid 4runner commited suicide on it). I'm coming up on 270,000k, and it just won't quit. I don't think there is a straight piece of metal on mine, I've been rear ended by several different vehicles, bounced off more trees then I care to remember, sunk it up to the top of it's hood in a river, and laid it over on it's side. As far as wrangler owners being more exclusive, it's true, but not that bad, everytime I've been wheeling with my buddies, it's always a mix, several wranglers and plenty of other types of vehicles too. As for parts, there are plenty of after market parts. However it's hard to find parts at the Junkyards, as these vehicles rarely end up there, people just keep fixing them. If you like Jeeps, go for it, you won't regret it. Theres nothing like driving in the summer with the roof and doors off!
  15. Ok, I've got a 1991 YJ that I bought new, I have an old Meyers 6.5' plow on it. Yes plows do weigh down the fron end ALOT. you must consider that the weight of the plow is stuck several feet out in front of the vehicle, so the weight it has is increased by leverage. Yes Vehicles that are used for plowing are worked ALOT harder then just about anything else you could do with them. But lets think about this for a minute or two. If this truck was used on a private estate, then chances are even with plowing snow for 19 winters, the 12k miles on this are not just snow plowing. Most likely it plowed a mile or so of private road/driveway when it snowed, so the rest of the mileage is from running errands arround town. Chances are it didn't even see that much road salt, being used on a private estate/ranch/farm. My own two cents, (providing sellers description is acurate), is that this truck is well worth $5k. I saw a long bed on ebay about a year ago that had 46k miles on it, and was in REAL nice shape, the seller had a minimum bid of $5k, and it didn't sell, so who knows what this will end up doing. Tell you what, sure wish I had some extra cash, I'd bid on it.
  16. My first car was a 1972 Chevy Nova, purchsaed use in 1980 for $250. it had a straight 6, 2barrel carb and a powergilde transmission. I sure do miss that old torpedo. My first Jeep was a 1981 CJ-8 Scrambler, bought used in 1987 for $2500. My first brand new car was a 1991 YJ, which I still own, has almost 270,000 miles on it now.
  17. I'm in North east PA, (basically), I'm in Pike county about 20 minutes north from Route 80.
  18. If I want to see a cool burnout, I'd rather a 1969 GTO, doing one. I guess If you have TONS of money to throw away,,,,,,,, My own two cents,,,
  19. A word of advice. Do a search on the internet for a lawyer who specializes in job related discrimination, and is in your area. Whenever they "write you up", and ask you to sign it, take it home, and write a rebuttal, and then sign it with the rebuttal attached, and write on your rebuttal with a CC: (lawyers name). That will make them nervous that you will cause them trouble if they "let you go". Then what you do is start looking for a new job. Get out of there.
  20. Actualy it's more a case of the Prior Owner(s) suck! I pulled a good deal of crap out of the inside of the frame rail. If the PO bothered to wash down the underside after sinking it in the mud, maybe it wouldn't look so bad. On the otherhand, I've already got two good pieces of steel welded to it and plan on more. Hopefully I should get a couple of years out of it.
  21. REAL FUNNY! Blind the sh#t outa of the other drivers on the road? :huh???: It's great to see far, but how about a little consideration for the rest of us? Wouldn't it be better to have some extra lights mounted. When you go off road you can light up the whole place, (which is when you actualy need some extra light). Then have those extra candlepower turned off when on the street, so as not to blind the poor slob, (like me) who actualy has some night vision problems?!?! Maybe the bulbs pop out because it's some kind of message,? ,? ,? like, DON"T BLIND EVERY OTHER DRIVER BECAUSE YOU THINK IT'S COOL! Thats my two cents, not a rant or a rave, just a pet peave, and some food for thought.
  22. WOW  If I had such a beautiful place to go 4wheeling. I'd never come back! Well atleast till I ran out of food, or beer. Awesome pictures! thanks for sharing them
  23. Well it's been quite some time since I've posted any information on my progress. Ok the Brush guard is on!, (thanks 1999MJ!). I've also got the new door and fender painted. This picture shows the door before I painted it but so what. I realy lucked out, I thought I was gonna have to paint the whole dam truck some horrible color just to have some consisitancy to the color. But I found that Lowes had the EXACT color in spray cans! it's actualy a Rustoleum Metalic color, so it's great cause I can just touch up everything everywhere as I go, sorta gives it that road warrior "ish" look. :brows: I've decided to skip the some of the mechanical work on the engine, due to time, I've gotta get this baby on the road. I can do some of the needed engine work in the spring/summer. She should last until then. Right now my main concern is the Unibody/frame. It looks REAL bad in the passenger side, just infron of the leaf perch. about 6-8 inches back from that whole the metal is thin as !#@%$#@ as it's rusted out from the inside out. seems the PO never bothered to clean under there aftyer getting it stuck in the mud pits. I actualy pulled out chuncks of hardended mud from inside there! Oh well, got alittle more then I bargained for there! let it be a lesson learned for my next MJ. I've been welding some plates on to this part of the frame to strenghten it, Hopefully I can get a couple more years out of it, after welding up a bunch of re-inforcing plates to the frame. I dunno, have you all seen worse? This weekend I hope the weather holds up and I can get somemore welding done on the frame. I realy want to get it on he road shortly, My old YJ needs a break! The YJ broke the 266,000 mark today. she just won't quit, but she is tired and I need another vehicle as a back up.
  24. I've seen those stock Zookies go places that My stock YJ couldn't go. Well mainly because My YJ was wider and couldn't fit between the trees. But hell a Quad will go places that none of our vehicles can. Bottom line, HAVE FUN, and KNOW your vehicles limits!
  25. Lets face it, Nobody makes stuff like they used to. The Original Toyota Landcruisers, (the original FJs), were/are Tough as Nails. The Old Dodge powerwagons, would pull that CJ back up over the cliffs edge! The Old Brittish Landrovers, could take you and yer family just about anywhere! The old Broncos, The Old International Scouts, The Old Blazers,,,, You name it Nobody makes it like they used to!
