The jeep dont like to start
JeeperjohnfromPA replied to NewToJeeps's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'd replace the CPS sensor, they don't cost much, and I'd bet thats the cause of your starting problem. As for the oil pan/rear seal. it is a PAIN! You'll need to raise the vehicle, and support the frame, AND support the front axle then you need to disconnect the stearing stablizer, and the front shocks where they mount to the front axle, then lower the front axle, (this gives about an extra inch of clearance to take out the pan). THEN you can unbolt the oil pan. once the oil pan is lowered some, you can then reach inside and disconnect the oil pump, (two bolts). at this point you will finally have enough room to squeeze the oil pan out, some force might be required, (I kicked it and cursed alot). REALLY it's a pain to do it. I made the mistake of NOT replacing the rear main seal,, so'll I'll be doing mine again soon. and yes the one piece gasket, (available from NAPA), fits just fine,, -
Death Wobble Poll - Part 2
JeeperjohnfromPA replied to Eagle's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Pete,, what about the front brake disks,, I had a bad wobble problem in my YJ,,, I never did figure it out. One day the original front disk busted loose, at about 255,000 miles,( there was a recall that I never bothered with). well I replaced both the fronts disks, and the wobble was gone, BYE BYE,, I do believe this could be the cause for ALOT of people. My YJ is a 91, 1991 and earlier jeeps could have had a front disk that was made of a composite metal, where the center "HUB" part was a different metal then the disk part, this could cause the front disks to warp and or rust, creating a steering "pull" when stopping,,, I never even thought twice that this would have caused a death wobble,, but when I replaced the disks, the problem went away,, I dunno :dunno: maybe these MJ's are suffering the same issue and nobody realizes it,,, -

reverse lights
JeeperjohnfromPA replied to JeeperjohnfromPA's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Lead,, That information looks very helpful. adding it to the to do list this weekend -
So my Manche has been on the road for a few weeks now, it has a few minor issues I am trying to resolve, One of them is the reverse lights. ALL my tail lights, park, brake, flashers, turn signals work. BUT my reverse lights don't work. The bulbs look to be good, and the sockets also apear ok, I figure it must be a bad wire somewhere,, I had a problem like this on my YJ, which turned out to be a bad wire on the transmission, but that was a 5speed, and this is an automatic,, can anyone tell me where the wire(s) on the automatic transmission for the reverse lights are?? Thanks in advance.

fulltime 4wheel light
JeeperjohnfromPA replied to JeeperjohnfromPA's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I checked all the lines, nothing looks bad, and all appears connected. So I'll try replacing the vacum switch, where can I get one, does NAPA have them? is it hard to swap out? any pointers are welcome -

Thanks Wildman! I learned how to wield on this old truck! In fact my friend who has been welding for years can't believe how good I can now weld, with only a cheepie stick welder! If you follow this thread from the start, you'll see that ALOT welding was needed. but I also have Harry's U-Pull it only about 2hrs away, so I aquired a new drivers door and fender from a XJ. Still need quite a few minor things fixed and or re-installed,, but all the major stuff is working! -

Here as promissed a few pictures. First picture is of it's First load,, (was alot more on it), I remembered to snap a picture before it was totally unloaded. Looks a little greenish in the one picture,, It is actually a Dark gunmetal color. -
ok, so I just put my manche on the road last week. everything works good. however, my dash light which indicates FULL TIME, for the 4wheel drive is stuck ON I know it's not in fourwheel drive, and I want to make the light work correctly again, (it worked properly right until I put it on th road). I am wondering if anyone has run into this problem before? is it a switch in the linkage? or the actuator on the front axle? or perhaps a short in the electrical? any advice, before I poke around figuring it out?

Here it is June 2008,, a little over a year since I first got my old MJ. I'm happy to say, it's running, and passed inspection last week. It's a Total Dog compared to the wife's Cherokee, but still it Runs stron g and everything works! I'll post a few pictures for you all to see, I put alot of time into this old beast,, just this past few weeks I put new brake pads up front, new tires on the front, new oil pan gasket, new valve cover gasket, new Crankshaft sensor, new coil, cap, rotor plugs and wires. Just in time too as the dwarves inside my TJ's transmission are really making ALOT of noise! Yeeeehaaaa! -
go to photobucket.com then search for Jeeperjohnfrompa. I've got some scans there from an old sales brochure,

Cool Pete! You The man! Please don't forget those stickers too!. -
Funny thing, When I go to the JY, after I scout out the place for any Jeep vehicles, I then go and look in all the large SUV's and Vans. I do this BECAUSE people stash parts! I found two aloy Jeep rims with practically new Goodyear wranglers on them! since then I make it a point, if I've the time, to double check for people stashing stuff! PS, I would never buy Goodyear wranglers new at a tire dealership, But hell $25 for an alloy rim and tire!? just can't pass that up!

Well looks sorta cool. However, having owned a CJ8/Scrambler, I can tell you this The CJ8 had a longer wheelbase, (I'm pretty sure), and the bed in that was hardly big enough to do anything "truckish". That being said and seeing as the bed in this would be even shorter then the CJ8, I'd have to say this is a WASTE. I'd love to See Jeep start putting the UTILITY back into SUVs, but this after market job just doesn't cut it. But I do agree it looks cool

I haven't posted anything about my MJ, since last October. Fact is Not much has been done since then. I've welded in some metal to reinforce the frame rail on the passenger side, and got a quick coating of paint on it before winter set in. Yesterday, My Daily Driver wouldn't start, (1991 YJ). Turned out that the ignition coil had finaly went, (17years and 272,000miles). I ended up staying home from work, and after I fixed the wrangler I started fooling with the MJ. It was unseasonably warm yesterday. Anyhow I got the MJ fired up, (first time since November), I put it in 4high and backed it out through the pile of snow I had pushed behind it. Anyhow while doing so I saw a nice spray of snow flying up across the front of the jeep which let me know that the 4wheel drive was indeed working. ;) I can't wait for warmer weather when I can get back to work on this beast and get it on the road. -
Socialized health care isn't the answer, not here in this country with all the corrupt politicians, lawyers and other jerks that would screw it up. We would end up with inferior care, long waits, and no recourse when they "screw up". Mandatory Socialized healthcare will never come to be in this country, I hope, because they would do it wrong. They would tell you if you don't have coverage, the government willl give you coverage. meanwhile all the people who have money will get the best care and doctors, and everyone on the manditory plan would get inferior care. NO THANKS, HILLARY

Well people can say there is NO reason to be OVER there. And there are those who can say there IS a reason to be there. Bottom line is we have a 2 party system in this country. And Both those parties have plenty of shall we call them "issues". And the two pary system isn't working so well if you ask me. I for one am just sick and fed up with Politics invading every corner of my life. On my damm answering machine, Posters at work Posters on the highway/roads People I know telling me how I should vote or why I should vote the way They are. People I DON'T know telling me how I should vote or why I should vote the way They are. It's just annoying but it's impossible to avoid !

Hope nobody was hurt. On anothernote,, :brows: back in like 97 or so I had a smittybuilt double tube on the back of my TJ when a Toyota 4runner decided to commit suicide at 35Mph! ( I was at a complete stop, the impact sent my TJ about 8feet forward!) I mean it, the guy couldn't even pull over to the Curb! It looked like he hit a brick wall! My bumper was bent and the tailgate dinged inwards a bit, but the rear glass didn't even break. He Couldn't Believe it, The Cops couldn't Believe it, But I could. :brows: I remember the Guy pointing at his 4Runner and saying, "The F__King thing is made of tinfoil!" Those Double Tube Bumpers are worth every penny, and the BF.Goodrich Spare didn't hurt either. :brows:

Well that Rust ain't so pretty thats for sure, but Rusty bed sides, bumpers, fenders etc, is one thing. But when you can push your index finger right through the frame rail,,,

Anyone remember the old TV show, "KUNG FU" with David Carradine. In the Show someone was nice to his character, when he asked how could he repay the person, the person said he must help ten others. And when doing so tell those that they too must help 10 others. Thus the goodness of a single act of kindness might spread and make the world better.
