What's this Guy Smoking? Overpriced Comanche on Craigslist
JeepcoMJ replied to SuperWade2's topic in The Pub
ha! not paying THAT for a 2.8. wonder how abused it was that the engine AND rear axle fried...and how's that tranny gonna be? it's a decent body, but nothing special -
pm him and say send parts, or i'm calling you out on the club. tell pete who he is and what's going on. don't call out until he responds. OR let pete handle it...although i'm sure he doesn't need any more work. i've been in the seller's shoes...not proud of that. i have alot of shipping issues in my town, and my UPS pickup doesn't do anything right (i.e. i don't really use UPS anymore because of it). but, i also am a bit slow about it sometimes. but, if that's the case, i have no problem shelling out some $$$ back to them. -Pat

naxja likes to...disrespect nonpaying members http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.p ... t243778825 scorpio_vette (from wi4x4.com) rolled his xj and I helped fix it. he posted it in modified tech on naxja because the rollcage saved his life. that's mod. tech far as I see it...cause it wasn't a factory option. he posted it not as a "off-topic" but to be informative and promote the use of rollbars. they deleted it on the basis that A he's nonpaying member and B it's advanced tech (not that they actually said the former of the two accusations) I disagree with them. money doesn't make talent. it also doesn't teach what needs to be learned...only experience and words of wisdom from others can. I want to say THANK YOU to Pete for this site, and the fact that we can remain objective about a common passion, and safe while doing it.

Junkyard scavaging today....great parts MJ found
JeepcoMJ replied to offroader461's topic in The Pub
I have a very hard time believing your story. i'd like contact info of the place, name of it, and location. if there is this great MJ junkyard, I'm sure the rest of us would agree with me...we'd like access. -
lol...i'm not placing a bet on the brute, i don't really care, and i make it a good habit not to gamble. ever.

your 89 "cj" is not a CJ. it's either a YJ, or it's a 79 rather than 89
-
as have I, that doesn't mean it was safe or a good idea. fact is that wood does not = gas tank support. i sure hope the OP understands this...and doesn't listen to your poor opinions in regards to what's safe.
-
1. i fail to see the relation to the brute topic. 2. I see nothing in those pictures that points to rusty unibody, which is what I think is the concentrated point here. from what I see, there's surface rust on the mechanicals, and that's about it. care to post more?

what bed. plywood doesn't constitute a bed. nor does it constitute a safe means of retaining a gas tank. do you think a state vehicle inspector would allow someone to drive like that? I don't. it's about MY and OTHER'S safety on the road. gas may be combustible under pressure, but honestly, you wouldn't grind next to a gas tank for fear of sparks igniting the fumes, so why would you risk something where your gas tank would fall off. and, I seriously doubt that anything post-1940 used plywood or wood to hold a friggin gas tank.

there ya go :D I'm probably just gonna go to my friend bruce's machine shop and turn my own...make it a bit more heavy duty than that...and perhaps thread it in (guys, I have like 4 ax5 tranny shells...i think i can do this :P)

you need a holley 390cfm 4bbl carb, with a edelbrock 4bbl intake http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new ... perf.shtml that should show you the intake...4th from top i believe, maybe 5th.

shaft length. get a 21 spline 231 with a long input shaft. that will work the 231 geonovast and I had at hand (from a ba10/5) had a short input and would not have sealed up properly...weeping fluid isn't good. other than that one problem, it's easy. OH and there IS a kit out there somewhere, and also a seal that has a longer piece on it so you can use the short input on a tranny that requires long input. no idea where, but i've been told it is.

don't encourage rednecking with gas tanks. it's everyone else's lives at risk with him in a driving time bomb. ...tank bouncing away, oops...scraping on the ground...oooh, sparks and fuel vapor. real great. oh no, i'm next to the truck in rush hour...what do I do? BOOM terrible idea. this is exactly why I said no wood. I know a kid with a comanche...used 2x4 green treated boards for the tank supports then the dumb@$$ actually spend $$$ on steel to build a bed for it...his thinking is flawed. drive safe, or don't drive.
-
note the holes he's drilled into the upper cab for the cage to continue through...
-
sweet. you should do that tim.
-
bullsh*t. I would sell every comanche I own, and give away my parts, if I could get the brute.
-
exactly. cause you won't have the weight of the bed over the rear wheels, and they're rear wheel drive. mud flaps will suffice while bedless, but there must be coverage of fenders or mudflaps. you also are required ty law to have tail lights and turn signals. remember, your gas tank is mounted to the bed...so you will need to make a mount for that first. and no, wood 2x4 is NOT a good idea to use as a gas tank support.
-
no, it isn't but you'd have to figure out the other issues to make it street legal/driveable. plus it will be front-heavy then too
-
not unless you make a new tank mount (it's mounted to the bed), a new e-brake assembly mount, and keep tail lights hooked up. also, you can't legally run without fenders.
-
all the way to 3.5 and 3.5 worth the time? no the worst thing about them motors is the damned jeep carb, so upsizing pistons will not help you very much. in fact, I'll be honest and say you'll wish you didn't waste the $$$ you can BUY for $450 OR LESS a 3.4 from a camaro, with fuel injection, and retrofit that in. identical block to the 2.8, just need an in-line fuel pump (or 2.5/4.0 sending unit...not sure which), the engine bay wiring from the camaro, and it's engine computer.

86 2.8v6 4wd won't be 4.10 gears. that's 3.54 or 3.73, unless someone special ordered it with 4.10's (which is unlikely) did you read the tags, or just assume? ...dana 20 rear or 35?
