The T-5 and T-4 chevy transmissions have also been known to pop up in comanches and cherokees...late 86 through early 88 were the only years that's been known to happen. it's debateable whether this is true or not (from some standpoints) but I've seen a few and here's the scoop; running out of AX5's and AX4's, Jeep decided to substitute them with T-5 and T-4 when necessary.

Aisen Warner AX 5 manual stransmission. the 4 speed was the same, just given the designation AX 4. it's identical to the 5 speed. an AX15 is not interchangeable with the AX5 nor is a puke. the AX15 was available with a 60 degree bellhousing, but only from late 80's dodge dakota's.

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=931690 that's via naxja. you will NOT have to discharge the a/c system, but you will probably have a hell of a time doing it without discharging it. just take your time, and think....it won't be easy, but you can swing the condensor around out of the way. as for the bolts spinning...are you talking about the ones through the firewall? they'll unthread from the heater box...just be sure to remove them from the firewall then thread them back into the heater box so that you can get it lined up when you reinstall it. and yeah, TNT and I took about 45 minutes...and we stood there BS-ing for all of 20 of those minutes (we BOTH talk alot  which makes it hard to get things done sometimes, but we still get things done in half the time it normally takes....

i already told you where the headlamp delay is. to the left of the fusebox on the driver's side. if it has headlamp delay it will be a blue module. can't miss it, it's about 2"x1" and though you won't see them til you get it out, it has about 7 connectors. to remove it you have to reach around to the side you can't see and push the retainer clip while pulling the module. otherwise it comes out crooked and gets hung up.

2.5L AMC 150 Gas Mileage
JeepcoMJ replied to 1987Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I get between 15 and 19mpg with my 4wd 4 cylinder 5 speed. that's with 4.10 gears. if I had 3.73's, I'd suffer a bit more in town but my highway would be about 21mpg or so. it's the 3000 RPM's driving at highway speeds that kills it. -
nah, they don't throw them at me...i just play interference before they recieve a worse fate.

get me a black interior please :D as far as OTHER BRAND axles go, it's comparing apples to oranges with that. they are in no way worth what a comanche dana 44 or cherokee dana 44 is. the comanche/cherokee dana 44's were like a 3 year option, and are an abnormal width...no other heavy duty axles are bolt-in with the correct width. in light of that, YES you WILL pay more than most other axles BUT you shouldn't be paying 2 weeks worth of spending money for 1 axle that's NOT rebuilt at the very least.
-
a junkyard dana 44 is worth NO MORE than $150-$200 IMHO. they haven't inspected it, nor will they. it is worth the price of scrap metal to them, and they WILL let it go cheaper but you need to work them down. that's TOO MUCH. half a grand? no fricking way...for that it better have brand new brakes and the gears you want.

fuel pump went bad today
JeepcoMJ replied to Car RamRod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
just cause it's new doesn't mean it's good. maybe it's faulty. -
throttle body spacers ...are wasted money.

check the little blue module to the left of the fuse box. it should be blue and parts inside it may have melted. does it stay on permanently? or shut off after a bit. if it shuts off after a bit, then it's fine. also check your headlight switch. matter of fact, make sure you shut it off. anyways, that can break too.
-
short answer; 2 small and 2 bigger holes if it's the egg-shaped one. the round one may be the same, but I don't recall. there were two different ones available and i'm not sure why
-
oh THAT one. THANK YOU for rebuilding the thing i'm glad the other setup was a temporary one. nice job :D
-
nope, good job. but why so high? :P i kinda wanna bring my buddy's dead geo by you so you can do a drive-over
-
there should be as many lines as there are holes  ;)

without actually looking at the rings, he CANNOT guarantee that they're shot. have the rear main done (or did you), and take care of any other oil leaks. then drive it and see what happens again, I can't stress enough that unless he's seen them, he cannot tell you for fact. and, if it runs great and doesn't smoke, I don't think the rings are shot. fix the rear main and go from there.

Stock transmission crossmember questions...
JeepcoMJ replied to MF Steve!'s topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
it really isn't that bad. you may simply have the crossmember turned the wrong way (180 degrees), the rubber tranny mount turned the wrong way (180 degrees). but the holes ARE there for it. -
Stock transmission crossmember questions...
JeepcoMJ replied to MF Steve!'s topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
damn. wish i'd have known bout them and the axles, I was just heads-uppin ya in case you didn't know. some people get mislead enough to run 3.55 with 4.10, and wonder why the case breaks. -
nope 4 speed will be 3.55 or 3.73. if it was a factory 5 speed it would be 4.10 the only 100% accurate way is to open the diff and read the teeth count on the ring gear
-
most likely a vacuum issue.

Stock transmission crossmember questions...
JeepcoMJ replied to MF Steve!'s topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
for a bit of info...the holes DO NOT vary based on 4wd or 2wd. at least not with an ax5 transmission. they vary between transmissions, that is it. did you swap your rear axle? or, did you match your front axle to 4.10's? cause 4 cylinder 5 speed will be 4.10 gears for the rear axle, MAYBE 3.73's though. hopefully ya did...or it isn't gonna work. that is, if you did a 4wd swap at the same time. either way, double check those gears. and...what did you do with the old motor and trans? I need a crankshaft, connecting rod(s), and I could use the guts of the tranny. -Pat -
I wouldn't pay 4k for it unless it's the last one off the line or first one in 92 or something that matters. otherwise, it's just a REALLY nice comanche and a rare year, but still has just as many problems as a REALLY NICE 91 eliminator, which is not quite as rare.
-
bah, that's simple to get around. toss a set of other tires ya got on there, for the inspection (good ones). easy way, borrow them from a buddy if you don't have them. toss yours on after inspection, then don't get in a wreck.
