there is no clutch switch on any comanche or early cherokee, save for a cruise control cutoff switch on the 5 speed models. that is likely the clutch switch you are seeing...and if you don't have cruise, you don't have it.

nah, just lettin ya know what I have lyin around so you are aware parts are somewhere at least. this time I actually have the part (instead of relying on others to get it...I'm mad, with the 3800 going black most likely, a factory chrome would be nice...)

B-E-A-UTIFUL you have done everything I wish I could. mad props man...
-
it's possible that I will have a factory hitch left over, depending on what I do for a rear bumper on the 3800.

I'm sorry for your loss as well. me tho, I know what I'd do if my dog went byebye....get a better one (i.e. a real dog, that you can't pick up, and that isn't bouncing EVERYWHERE. stupid aussie shepherd...he's lucky he was free, or we'd have let the POS go ruin someone else's life). I miss my longhaired german shepherd...at 13 years we had to put him to sleep when he fractured his entire rear left leg. I was there, petting him at home, when the shot was administered...and let me tell you, watching the light go out of his eyes was by far the worst moment of my life. He was a real dog...deep bark, defensive toward us (and police trained to boot), but just a giant 135lb teddy bear. he only ever bit three people too...two annoying and overbearing jahova's witnesses, and once he bit my brother for stealing his bone (before he was neutered, and only @7 months old). He never did learn the concept of catch...you threw the ball, he looked at you like "you dumb@$$...the ball was right here. why'd you put it all the way over there when you obviously want it here?....tell you what, you can go get it. I'll just lay here and enjoy myself." LOL, good pets, great memories. it's always hard to deal with losing them.

...I just threw a set of them away on a scrapped cherokee.... shoulda told me earlier lol

Nope. If the suction tube is plugged, or if you have excessive blow-by, that small filter will still be an outlet rather than an inlet. Instead of oil in the air cleaner, you'll soak that little filter and then spray oil all over the engine. You have to fix the problem. Otherwise, the catch can is the best band-aid. how about installing a check valve

Maximum sustainable engine rpm
JeepcoMJ replied to james750's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
lol...not a y/n question... james, you should be running 30's at least with those gears, 31's preferable. 3.73's would have been ideal for 28" tires. that said, it won't kill your truck to run that for short bursts...but don't expect to be driving a 500 mile trip on it and keeping up with traffic. -
I REALLY hope your kid appreciates this, and I also hope that he's spending ALOT of time working on it with you...

Wiring Harness...........
JeepcoMJ replied to jeep_freek88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That actually depends on what he's replacing, with what. Okay, to the original poster. what exactly are you replacing? with what? are you just replacing the fuse box? just dash harness? have you cut any wires? is it a complete harness swap? is the new harness from a cherokee or comanche? -Pat -
that just means that you have a 4.0 :P

half-arsing the problem only leads to more problems down the line. Not really a half A$$ job I ran mine like this all summer cause it was doing the same thing. 1hp off taking the clutch fan off and no worry of sucking water in a hole as you can control the electric fan, never had an overheating issuse either. but if the fan isn't the issue and something else is, just taking off the fan is NOT going to fix it. best find the problem now and not screw up anything else.
-
so can it have zero's and 1's then? does that info give you anything else to go by? Thanks, Pat

Dana 44 HP – Rear Axle
JeepcoMJ replied to 1990 Pioneer 4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My thought was that the D 44 HP could be stronger than the D35. no...? yes. but you won't find one with the right bolt pattern or width is the issue. that would mean you'd need to custom build an hp44 for it. if you're bent on an hp44, I would say to find a factory comanche dana 44 rear, and a front closed knuckle (because they're less desireable and thus cheaper) hp dana 44, and take them to an axle shop and have them swap the differential housing, then gear the truck accordingly. this would give you proper axle width, a high pinion axle, and while they have the axle and your truck they can set the pinion angle accordingly by simply rotating the axle on the tubes. the benefit you're going to get by going high pinion is simply that it's stronger than a dana 35, and your driveshaft will be higher, thus less chance of contact with terrain. the difference in height between an hp 44 and lp 44, with the length of our rear driveshaft, would be a negligible several inches...hardly worth the money of having the custom axle bent. realize however, that upgrading to a dana 44 means needing your rear driveshaft shortened as well. that all said, you're still better off going to a dana 44 any way you go about it. DO NOT spend ANY money on the dana 35...you will regret it. -
I was leaning towards this as well. The motor is going to move a little as per design of the rubber mounts. If it was a solid mount and didn't allow flex, it would start shearing bolts. I would think that even if the motor mounts were toast, that the engine would still not move forward enough to hit the radiator. Since it didn't hit it when the shroud was on, I feel that the fan was moving out and stoping on the shroud, which gave it enough resistance to stop forward movement. You removed the shroud, and it let it move further out to hit the radiator. I'd locate another fan and try it before spending cash elsewhere. Just my thoughts, but I live by the KISS principle. it's not the fan that's the issue. it's the bearing in the a/c bracket which holds the fan spindle and pulley that would have gone bad, if that's the situation. other than that, that's the scenario I would anticipate
-
are you sure it's the motor moving and not a bad bearing on the fan clutch pulley? -Pat
-
so...are your bolts in the frame mounts broken? or was the radiator secured properly? IIRC you had a front end collision, is it possible that the radiator is not situated in it's right location?

it's not rude when the dumbass won't listen...

I agree about the heads seeping...my H.O. that i just swapped in the MJ has a seeping head gasket. I'm not worried much about it at the moment. kicking myself in the @$$ though...the motor has only 3k miles so I didn't pull the head, but now wish I had. also, eagle is correct it is somewhat pointless to do a head rebuild and valve job if you're not doing rings. -Pat

I don't feel that any single one of us was rude. OBVIOUSLY he hasn't gotten a clue. we say it's not a comanche tail light, he doesn't believe us. who here deals with more comanches? him...or us? no offense to anyone who thought we were rude, but frankly I'd say we all know damn well what we're talking about with comanches. some of us know more, some less, but I like to think we're all somewhere in the middle. Yes, there is always something new to learn, but you can't argue about what tail lights were available...there was only one basic tail light design available, with only a couple variations. somple, fact, and not rude at all.

Dana 44 HP – Rear Axle
JeepcoMJ replied to 1990 Pioneer 4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
By "HP" are you referring to a High Pinion axle? With 30" tires, your Dana 35 should be fine left stock. I would never condone spending any money on a Dana 35 to "upgrade" it. There are more weak points than the shafts and it's wasted money. Agreed. the axle shop is just trying to get work. the place with the "hp 44" is just trying to make a sale. just go to the junkyard, and find an original comanche dana 44. -Pat
