THIS IS WRONG! see below (edit) this is what i came up with... comanche rear drive shaft lengts-eye to eye '86 lwb, 2.8, tf 3speed, np207, d35 = 54" lwb, 4.0, AW4, NP231, D44 = 48"....d35 = 47" lwb. 4.0, ax15-ba10/5, np231, d44= 49"....d35 = 48" ax15-ba10/5 (same length) = 1" shorter than aw4 d44, chr8.25 = 1" longer snout than d35 prety sure thats all legit... -
we have long hard winters up here, and once the snow hits the ground, its there, it builds up and at some points there is inches of compacted snow everywhere. having 4wd means nothing. if you can't get around in 2, 4 isnt going to help. i only used my 4x twice last winter ,on the streets... i advise all to find an empty parking lot and learn to drive properly :brows: best to know how your vehicle will handle in different circumstances. having studded tires is usualy a good idea if you like to stop... but if you want to have fun.... mud terrains all the way
-
our snow came a bit late this year(usually have a few inches by Halloween) but thats been more than made up for in quantity. shoveling is a nice break from the real work, takes 4 hours to clear the properties (at work). i laughed wen i saw huston got snow, had to shut down the city.... our plow trucks and graters don't move till we get 4 inches, thats municipal and a large part of the private companys too i love the slipslidn. my gas milage sucks but I'm always smilen

beefy bumper or not if the frame rails are not reinforced the truck will crumple in a hi speed impact. but, these trucks do crumple just rite to keep you safe (first hand knowledge) I'm betting a reinforced truck would hurt! this is what happens when you t-bone a '94 honda at 50mph w/o a front bumper... but i walked away with only a skuffed fore arm (steering wheel) my '87 will get the carpenters special front and rear bumper treatment!

factory plow, helper air bags up front?
akamcbird replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
no. it has 3.5" lift, getting 3.5" lift in the rear. f150 coils are 1" lift...not enough. I know that these air bags are what we want in it...just wanted to know more about them. '79 f150 coils give 4" t0 4.5" stated here and elsewhere--http://reddeerjeep.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=782 -
I'm thankful for cross linked polyethylene shovels as we got bout8" of snow last nite. ...and telitubies :dunno:

What have you towed with your MJ?
akamcbird replied to aerocorey's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i pulled the 44 while the guy went to get the loader and tossed it in the bed of my truck. he pulled everything but the axle and after seeing the truck i woulda left it, if i didnt know what i was looking at. to be fair he told me it would probably sit on the trailer better if i pulled it. and yes towed with my '90 eliminator lucky for me there was a charity run down the side of the hwy that kept the coppers busy or ida proly got stopped -
at the front of the bed the inside of the rails is 56" but is 55.5" at the floor. the kobalt chest is 56" so it has to be modded to fit also to fit over the for mentioned gas filler hump.
-
yah... that price was crap. ended up going dual 6v at 260ah and $210 total. going with an import alternator 110a 3.25" saddle mount $85. ill do a writup after its all in btw kobalt chest doesnt fit without modifying!

:dunce:  :brows:  ...was comanche on comanche on comanche technology towed this bout an hour to get it into town, was ok at hwy speed but you could feel the cross wind. (i reallly reallllly wanted the d44 that it came with, all or nothing deal) -
it does have good stance. its the 33x10.5s with 4.5" of backspacing. 3.5" re lift in the front the back is soa at bout 5" unloaded (as pictured) usualy have a couple hundred lbs of tools in the bed, leaves it mostly level. how many tires is to many?
