97+ Interior Swap - Can it be done?
shelbyluvv replied to Chillstar's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Try to find a 2 door if possible. It makes finding some of the hard to get parts easier. As in the 2 door seat tilt mechanisms, the 2 door window switch, and the wiring is easier to do with the lack of rear door harnesses. I am in the process of doing this swap again. It is fun. Take your time enjoy yourself. -
I am not seeing new UCAs in that pic. Are you still running stockers? I also see a CRusty's track bar. Take that POS and throw it as far as you can. I fought DW on my WJ for over a month after I put a new CRusty's lift on it. It turned out to be the bushings were too soft in the TB. I put a Rock Krawler TB in it and it cured the DW.

Both my 86s and my 89s had these tags. Neither was ever totaled. I believe they are what is known in the collector car hobby as "fender tags". All my 80's turbo Dodges had them too. I still have a few from Shelby Lancers and CSXs that were junked. They will tell you the build date, paint codes, interior colors, and a bunch of other stuff on a well optioned vehicle. The current 86's is almost blank. It is of course a base model truck.

Project "Black Betty"
shelbyluvv replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
The project has stalled because of lack of funds. I will more than likely just drop a 4.0 into it and call it a day. I did get in on a 2500 front end buy. The 97+ front end has been sold to fund the conversion! -
Bronson spent some time getting Onyx primed and bed lined. I think the truck turned out absolutely amazing. I would leave it like it is! Good job man.

Is this a gas truck or a diesel? Will it do heavy towing? What kind of truck are they going on? There are a lot of things that go into choosing the right tire for a truck.

I have a NIB OEM bumper sitting on the shelf in the garage!  :clapping: :hijack:

Project "Black Betty"
shelbyluvv replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
I traded my 84 Waggy XJ to the junk yard for a set of mint 97 ZJ seats, 97+ XJ 2 door seat tilt mechanisms, and a 97+ 2 door XJ driver side power window switch and bezel. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16295 I am going to go back up next weekend and pull all the interior wiring from the 2 door. I want to take a shot at doing another 97+ conversion on this truck. I will not be selling this one this time. I have turned away from doing the 4 door conversion on this truck. There are two main reasons for it. 1) I do not want to get that far involved in a build with less than 2 1/2 years left before I retire from the Corps and move back to the east coast. 2) Betty was my first running and driving MJ. I have a lot of history with this truck and really want to keep her just as she is. -

You will need to cut the floor brackets out of a XJ and weld them in your truck. It is not a bolt in. -
I bet you can get him down to $600. You will get your rear axle and easily make your money back off parting it out. Hell, I am interested in most of the interior and all the other stuff I listed. Buy the truck Don. I need those parts for mine. Screw what they say about it being rare, blah, blah, blah. I hear that all the time and still see these trucks selling dirt cheap. If they were so rare they would be fetching a lot more money.

Put me in line for the, rear flares rear hitch the lower moldings headliner board interior lights

Nice truck. The seats are out of a ZJ. They are the same ones I had in Onyx.

They should be. As long as the 4 cyl radiator has the tranny fittings along on bottom of it and not the side.
-
Anyone have a radiator for a 2.8, auto laying around? Let me know how much you want for it shipped to 92277.

which is better for recovery

i got some new tow hooks and they will go where the factory ones go on the front bumper. y no hooks? and y are straps so much better then cable? I agree with Pete. Straps will stretch when you pull on them, cables do not. You tend to do a lot more damage with cables and chains. Hooks, they can and will either fly off and come back and kill you or really mess up what the hit. Loops, they will fly back a little but not near as fast as a hook. If you or anyone else in your group breaks out a chain, cable, or strap with hooks on it have them put it back. They are an accident waiting to happen. EDIT: Here is a video of a strap snapping back. -

You might want to knock about $250-$300 off your price. They are rare, but arn't made of gold. -
I have some 06 WK 65 ANNV. seats I will let go. You will need to build some type of seat base to get them in a MJ. I had them in Onyx at one point. The color is taupe. There are pics of them in the Onyx build thread. $150 is what I have in them and it is what I need to get back out of them.

DING, DING, DING!!! We have a winner Bob! I will be using the 96 down XJ glass. I just had a SWB bed donated to the cause as well. I am going to flip my rear springs, set the axle back 1" in the perches, and extend the rear of the frame 5". This should give me 11" of wheel base.
