CHROME question- DETAILERS please help!!!
86FUBAR replied to fiatslug87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
When i clean chrome that is covered in "exposure" aka rust is what I'm guesing , go in the kitchen and dig out the tinfoil and pull out enuf to make a loose ball with (ruffly the size of a golf ball but it don't realy mater) and just rub it on the chrome , some times i throw a bit of wax/polish or what ever i have that aint abrasive on it wile i rub and just wipe it off and u would be impressed how well it works. -

Welcome to da nut house !!! , its nice to see more "local" guys posting up and a cali get together would be cool as well in the future mason -
I'm not saying its gona be more comfortable but it will be little more spacious inside and out and as for a trailer ya iv thought of that but i prefer to tent it . i do have a 6x8 utility trailer that i made years ago to haul gear but this last trip that i took it and the jeep up in the sierras was difficulte . i had the trailer loaded with less than 900lbs and it towed great around home here (sea level) but as soon as i hit 4000 ft it was like someone turned on a switch that cut the power in half and u don't even want to know what it was like at 9000 ft :wall: so i could only dream what an adventure trailer would be like.

Yes but i don't need a diesel so thats ok thats just what i need is another money pit , besides if i take the family camping and wheeling and i don't take the rubicon that would be stupid not to mention how much of a poser i would feel like by not wheeling it . on top of that that would make vehicle #4 for me and thats not including the complete ramcharger body thats siting in the back waiting for its restoration or the wifes car and we already pay a bunch for car insurance etc....

RUBICON UNLIMITED !!! HAHA shame on u guys that thought i was talking bout the manche , really! So the reason behind this all is the family is getting bigger and with 2 kids and the wife and me the camping and traveling is gona get even tighter than it already is . Now i know there are probably many people out there that grewup camping , fishing and traveling in them but my dad had a 91 suburban that we traveled everywere in so i feel a little cramped in my jeep at times even though its the unlimited. So my plan or idea anywas is to sell the rubicon and buy a newer dodge power wagon as its a quad cab so it has the room I'm looking for and has the lockers ,winch ,bed and that little bit of extra cool thrown in as a bonus . I hate to even think of it but ya gota do what ya gota do sometimes , besides i originaly wanted a power wagon and even looked at one before a got the jeep but i couldnt afford it ( well i actually could have then but at the time didnt think i could) so i got the rubicon instead as it was the runner up . Please tell me what yall think ? and what the pros and cons of such a decision may be ? -what i have ......05 rubicon unlimited ,silver ,6 speed ,stock with 30K on the ticker -what i want ......06 power wagon silver ,6 speed or auto ,stock with similar milliage comments or ideas .......

Well i took it out wheeling at the end of june there and it did great , i took it easy for a little bit because i didnt want to break it in an hour like last time , but as the day went on i got more stupid :brows: . i aint got squat fer pics but it was a blast . this me and my budy jose in his rubicon before leaving in the morning and this is at the end of the day on our last run just checking out the view man wheeling with the doors off was awsome , wish id done it a long time ago . the only thing i managed to break was the clutch , it still held good but i couldnt shift , i first thought it was the master or slave so when i got home i replaced them both since they were realy old and the master had a small leak but it didnt fix the problem so now it sits out front broken waiting its turn to get fixed . the nice thing is that a couple years ago when i had money (before kids and such) i bought a center force clutch for it knowing that i would need it some day  so there is no real out of pocket on anything and that keeps the wife happy. so untill then .........

I got the 12 ton (not the 16 that i thought) hobo freight bender a number of years ago and yes it has its limitations just like anything but if u can learn from your mistakes and make adjustments accordingly then u should be fine . Some things iv learned along the way are: 1) work slowly , this thing is not a speed demon and if u rush it it WILL smash pipe . i have found that jacking 10-20 times and then releasing pressure a bit helps a ton . 2) 9 times out of 10 heat dosnt help at all , it typicaly creats a flat spot in the middle of the bend on the outside. 3) the placement of the rollers is very important and varries dependent on what size pipe you are bending and they often need to be moved atleast once during the bending process in order to keep from kinking the pipe. 4) the factory supplied rollers SUCK and should be used only when bending 3/4" and smaller if that , reason being is they are suposed to be universal and like most universal things they suck at anything specific which is what were trying to do , bend specific size pipe. the main problem with the rollers is the point of contact is verry small creating a dent in the pipe , this dent does two things , first it dosnt let the pipe roll with in the bender which aids in the pipe geting kinked and secondly it just looks ugly . What i did to fix the problem : its comprised of a piece of 2" id square tubing , some 2x2 angle and some , i think 1 3/4" or 2" pipe pressed to fit over the od of the 1 1/2 pipe . here is a pic of them installed , note the use of the 5/8 bolts used at either end to pull the sides together so as not to bend the factory roller pins as the rollers are about 3" wide and my roller replacements are 2" wide. also note that my bender has the return springs , make sure u purchas a bender with these as these are a huge time saver and definetly worth the few extra bucks. 5) I have herd of and seen many people use sand in keeping the pipe from kinking and from what iv seen it works quite well . what you do is fill the pipe with wet sand (wet sand packs tighter) and simply duck tape the ends shut and bend away . seems simple enuf though iv not yet tried it as i havent realy had the need to. a pic of the directions on my bender , even talks about using sand . iv never even read this untill now :shake: 6) Practice , practice , practice . it will take some time to "Master" (for lack of a better word) the art of this machine and be prepared to messup some pipe at first but if u take your time the loss should be minimal. thats it so far . here is a bumper i made one afternoon for a budys truck using 1 1/2" pipe and my bender. keep in mind its not done yet so there some sections of it that are missing

I didnt , its just hanging out there from the cab back but i don't see it being a problem for the time being . I'm gona attach it at some point but I'm gona wait till i figure out if I'm gona keep the bed or ditch it in favor of something else like an early willys bed or.....? mason

Well the exo cage is gona wait till a later date which is probably a good thing cause i hate to rush things but thats ok . did mannage to get a bunch of other stuff done . the front drive shaft is done and in i think it will hold up prity good i also got my new hubs in , in all my research a found that warn makes an upgraded verson of their front (their standard front hubs are comparable to the mile markers) hub that was designed for their rear d35 full float kit that mates up to my Mile Marker kit with no problems, and upon closer inspection these warns are much stronger looking than the mile markers. the outside diameter of the warn is nearly an 1/8" larger than the M.M. which is the were they commonly fail the warn weighs about a pound more aswell and between everything i mannaged to tape off the lower part of the truck and shoot some primer and paint on it , i used some rustoleum gloss black appliance paint that is totally awsome caus it keeps it deep shine after it dries thats it for today mason

this is what i did on mine , its 2x6 3/16 . they , or atleast the passenger side so far also doubles as my air tank so they are pulling double duty

Friendly words of advice: Think twice about posting stuff like this in a public forum and save yourself some big time possible grief. :hmm: I agree on the friendly advice. In today's political climate this might be considered a hate crime. Used to be you had to commit a crime, but now there is a push to prosecute if you made someone "feel" threatened. What was the Tom Cruise movie where he was arrested for a crime they said he would commit in the future? Well .... WOW ! whats this world coming to . first its freedom of speech , next they will take my guns and tell me i can't club baby seals anymore ....ok ok no more burning houses :shake: people these days! back on topic

Got started on the front square tube driveshaft today , will try and get some pics of it tomorow and I'm still waiting on my 200 ft of 1 3/4" tubing :fs1: hopefuly i get it in time , I'm gona call my guy tomarow and if it aint ordered up I'm gona cancel it and I'm just gona do with out .
