I was running the stock clutch behind my 3.4 for for sometime with no problems and I'm verry hard on my manch but i did upgrade to the centerforce stage 2 clutch after breaking the clutch fork , and the only reason i did that was i didnt want to pull the tranny again , that and i already had the clutch sitin on the shelf however i would suggest that u learn to properly drive a stick as riding the clutch on a daily basis is not the greatest thing for it and it drives me nuts but i understand that old habits die hard . and I'm not trying to be rude

you could also get the weber carb kit as its a bolt on installation to the factory manifold . that would save you some time and money as you wouldnt have to purchas a new intake and install , though it wouldnt be a 4v carb i don't think it would matter much
-
Id probably tack a nut on and pull it off with that since yer seamingly gona be replacing them and then purchac the correct tool for the next time as its so much easier, atleast thats what i did but are u sure its the bushings as its usualy the male torx bolts at the base that come lose?

:fool: U should have contacted the authorities about the abandoned vehicle as it could have been stolen or worse used in some kind of murder , if it was stolen I'm sure the origional owners would have liked to recover it . i don't know how u sleep at night ! :shake: :rotfl2: o and good score on the beer

I'm not sure if u could run 3.1-3.4 heads on a 2.8 , i did for a wile run later large valve heads off of a 88 or 89 s10 but also switched to some larger tires etc.. at the same time so i was unable to give it the but dyno but I'm sure it didnt hurt. the one thing u have to do the edelbrock manifold is gasket match the 2 pieces because the fit was horible , that and i had to ditch the partial stud kit that came with the manifold due to some leaks that developed :fs1: but other than that i like it . next i want to get the headers for it and some roller rockers but for now that can wait

haha that mj has been for sale for like 3 years , my budy that lives in mooresville always sends me phone pics of all the time. Ya some of there work scares me , back when i lived there we would go down to there old shop and look around and some of the work was impressive and other stuff was ...well ... it made me wonder how a shop could build some increadably nice stuff then throw in some duct tape and bailing wire here and ther and call it good . but o well at least they saved the mj from the crusher!

As far as i know there is only 1 intake and you can get and 2 different tops , one for the stock 2v carb and the other for a 4v carb. I got the edelbrock with the 2v setup and like it alot i can post the numbers when i get home to night . here is my build thread , there are some pics in there of the setup (page 3 i think) and ill post more detail later viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5484

I'm a mechanic for a school district , me and 2 other guys maintain 21 school buses , a dozen or so maintnence trucks , a dozen or so vans , 4 riding mowers , 2 large tractors and countless string trimers , blowers , push mowers and probably 40+generators . we take care of just about everything you could think of and them some on top of having to drive the buses aswell (yes with children on board) . we are a fairly small district with an enrolment at around 2,200 students but we cover nearly 600 square miles and of that 80% is the most expensive realestate on the planet which is how our district is funded (unlike most public schools that are state funded ) so we gots lots of money to spend which is nice as we keep our fleet in very good condition , that and were one the highest paid districts . In all the best part about my job is were not a production shop so we can take our time on jobs and I'm my own boss so as long as my work gets taken care of i don't get hasseled by "the man" and i can do what ever i want :brows: . i think that about covers it

Thanks guys , those tube clamps cost about $5.25 each which isnt all that bad when compared to the cost of the spare shafts them selfs and it keeps them from clinking around in the box geting all dinged up. Today i managed to trim the back fenders for tire clearence, i kinda wanted to keep the flare but after poping it off i started liking the look more and more and i figured that by keeping the small lip of metal i could pop rivet the inner fenderwell to the outer fender and still keep it nice and ridged and i liked the look of the lip on there. after removing the flare i wiped the dirt off and taped a line for me to try and follow , and u can see the previous triming that i did . i was realy suprised that there was no rust anywhere even around the old trim lines . next i drilled some 3/16 holes above the origional mounting holes , this is verry important as once cut its gona be extreamly flimsy then i cut and debured the edges , poprivited the 2 together and moved on to the passenger side and a crappy side shot

well i managed to mount the other amo box in the bed and i also scored a new 35 12.50 15 BFG AT for 35 bucks at the local swap meet so now i got a full size spare I also mounted my spare front axle shafts to the lid of my tool box using some 1 1/4" tube clamps that i got from the local hydraulic shop and pop rivited them inplace , the shafts fit perfict and are protected and out of the way I also got the electric brake controler hooked up and my locker bypass hooked up in the PW so now i can use the lockers in 2hi or 4hi if i want which might help since i hear there is still alot of snow on the ground , but i still havent done anything with trailer yet
-
Well for what its worth the XJ 4" lift kit i got years ago for the manch from Trail Master was a XJ specific kit and i used the real AAL that came in the kit and it gave me 4" of lift out back and it just so happens to still be on the truck in a soa configuration though I'm trying to get rid of them at the moment for obvious reasions.
-
Thanks guys . Today i welded some lock tabs on the amo box and moved my recovery gear from the big box into the little one and I'm impressed at how much room i still have in the big box and i still got to mount the other one on the passenger side though I'm gona try and not over fill the truck with stuff but its nice to have all this extra room  . I'm still looking for a full size spare but other than that things are looking good but i still need to get my buddys trailer fixed up for the trip (some tires etc..) and then hook up the electric brakes on the PW . Ahh nothing like waiting till the last moment!

Well now that i have all this new space in the box i just couldnt wait to fill it up again and since i needed a second battery i figured in the big box was the best place . so after a half dozen trips around town and a bunch of money spent i gathered up all the necessary pieces to do the install . here is the battery box i picked up at VatoZone , its big enuf to fit a group 31. i ran the cables under the lift strut and out the bottom edge of the box there was just enuf room behind the box to get there drill in there and punch the holes and run the cable the cable was run through the back of the cab towards the passenger kick pannel where I'm mounting the switch, figuring out where to mount the switch was the hardest part of the whole build. next i drilled a 3/4 hole next to a hole that was already in the fire wall to run the common wire and battery cable in to the cab to the switch here's the switch , now i can run on the main battery , the second battery , both batterys or kill all power to the truck i usualy just throw away the interior pieces as i take them off but this was gona look to good to do that so i punched a 4" hole in the kick panel and mounted it over the switch I'm probably gona have to make some kinda cover to go over it to keep people from accidently hiting it wile I'm driving but its ok for now i think
-
Well i did a little horse trading the other day with a fellow jeeper at work and scorred some 20 mill amo cans for the back of the manch to help free up some space in the big box , i figure ill put the recovery gear etc........ in the amo cans and the tools and spare parts in the big box here is the 1/4" mounting plates from the inside , with 3/8's hardware. the inside bolts are above the frame so i used some HD nut serts next i gota weld some lock tabs on to be able to secure them and then get some matching locks , man these boxes are nice i have been looking for them for months but know one had any

I don't think that the flex plate is gona give you problems and the 231 will fit but the wranglars are suposed to be clocked different so it might contact the floor a bit but thats nothing a BFH can't handle . Another option you can also look into the chevy s10 as the 4wd were d-side drop , and they had the 700r4 / 231 combo or a 5 speed t5/231 (i think it was the t5) . anyhow i was looking into doing the 700r4/231 combo due to the fact that a friend has it laying around his house but my 5 speed is still working and as for the s10 231 clocking I'm unsure . -
I like the idea of carrying an extra altenator and water pump especialy since i wiggled the pump the other day and it seemed a little loose . what else , nobody else carrys anything note worthy. Beer? Spare beer? for the new friends you find on the trails? and thats just a given!
-
you really need to ditch the rollers and make some fitted sliders , they work much better and won't dent the pipe . and so far the ones i made that fit the 1 3/4 pipe have worked out well on the smaller sizes even though its not fitted

Well iv been getting ready for a camping / wheeling trip to kyburz CA. and have been stocking up on spare parts to carry with me on the trail incase I or someone else break something . Since I'm the type of guy that would "rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" i typicaly carry to much but since I'm spending alot in gas and lodging to tow the manch up there and i don't want to break in the first 2 hours and have to spend even more time and money trying to find parts out in the boonies etc ..... So what i have so far that i can think of at the top off my head long side , short side superior cromo shafts (still runing stock 297's) 2 dana spicer front u-joints 1 mile marker front stub shaft 1 warn locking hub , 2 mile markers 1 rear u-joint 1 front drive shaft a couple u-joint strap kits 1 stock uni-bearing (not for me) 1 stock rotor " " 1 stock stub " " assorted hoses: coolant , vacum etc... assorted nuts and bolts the necessary belts electrical stuff :wire , fuses, conections ,relays etc... spare tire some u bolts hopefully a leaf pack i will update as i think of stuff , but tell me what yall carry for spare parts
-
well i got my new trackbar bracket fabed up , still need to make the brace for it that ties it into the other side of the frame but its better than what i had before , i also got my spare front axle shafts , they are superior cromo's , a spare mile marker stub shaft and some spare u-joints so the front axle is prity much covered i think. Here i got to try out the break that i made , it worked flawlessly and made nice clean bends every time then i torched out the lower piece out of some scrap (the lower piece was already bent) ground it flat and drilled out the 5/8 hole and the frame bolt holes , mocked it up and tacked in place. then i cut and bent the other side of it then i drilled , cut tacked and burned some more i don't have a good finshed pic so ill try to get one later

Yup the ax4-5 is a good trany , not as good as the ax15 but thats beside the point . my ax5 is holding up fine to my 3.4 and the stupid peddle
-
:agree: Ditch them , i get rid of them all the time since they just gather mud and stuff

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner , well sorta , iv never pulled my MJ's appart but iv pulled apart so many damn gm (and ferds) colums that i can dang neer do it with my eyes closed . even did a trail repair on my budys blazer after the colum fell out on to his lap in a bunch of random pieces , all with less than the basic tools required , that was fun :D .
