Yet another towing question....
COMJNUT replied to lil_loco's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Here's my insights from me towing with my MJ: 1. get a 3 core radiator 2. get an aux cooler for the transmission 3. if you don't have an aux fan, install one 4. even with the weight distributing hitch, get helper springs or airbags 5. glad you got a 7 pin with the brake controller and trailer brakes, don't get a delay controller, get the adjustable gain ones (forgot what they are called), you will like it more when you have different loads on the trailer. 6. I have 32" tires also, I wished I had gone to 4.10's...but I have the ax-15 not the aw4. I think that's all I have for now, good luck. -
I should have been following this more closely, You passed me during your trip twice...if not more.

most of us are on FB, I've even created a group specific for colorado...and yes, I've referred this site on it already.

how to increase my tow capacity??
COMJNUT replied to th3m4nm4rcu5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have changed my d35 to a d44, regeared to 3.73, and have 32" tires. With the 32" tires I should have gone to 4.10 gears for towing in the mountains. Pick a d44, 8.8, 8.25, just something beefier than the d35. Get some very good brakes It makes a difference when you add brakes to your trailer. Add a aux cooling fan if you don't already have one, I always have mine on when I'm towing. -
I got a ticket with 93mph... my friend had the gps running when we topped out at 112...it was stupid. :shake:

Yes, home prices sky rocketed in the last two years. Homes that were $200K now are valued and are selling around $300-350K, with offers that are 5-10k above asking price. Too many people moving in at an alarming rate. 100k + people moved to colorado just this past year. I wish you luck.

for a single use one man bleeding system: 1. get some clear tube, make sure the inner diameter can fit over the bleeder nipple snugly 2. get a one-way vacuum check valve 3. cut the clear tube in two pieces, one short another long 4. put the short tube on the bleeder nipple, then the vacuum valve with the flow direction away from the bleeder nipple, then run the long tube up to the master (or run it into a bottle that you dispose of the fluid properly. If you run into a bottle, make sure there is plenty of fluid in the master throughout the entire process) 5. open the bleeder valve a little bit, doesn't need to be much, just to release the pressure of the fluid. 6. pump your foot slowly, long steady strokes, and not letting it recoil too fast. Do this until you see no more small bubbles, The one-way vacuum valve makes sure that the fluid only flows in one direction like a Diode on a DC circuit. 7. close off the bleeder valve 8. see if you can get back-pressure, if you can you're done, if not get a friend to help. I did this on mine, then had a ASE certified mechanic check it for me and he found no air bubbles in it at all.

That is what mine did, check out my build thread for pics. Yup

I thought we had more MJ owners than that in CO...

Almost 3 years, guess a catch up is in order. Since hitting the 275k mark, I've started using a LJ as a daily driver and have only had the MJ out on special events. CCFK in 2013 M&G and Rick showed up Towing the trailer for work At the top of Pikes Peak...Finally One of my friends that owned an auto shop burned down, and to show support Rick and I entered a vehicle show to support him

Let mine sit in the garage since it still has the wobbles of death. I need to get that fixed soon, going to be towing some hay in a few months.

OMG! Where is your shifter!? I never have had the chance to drive one with the shifter on the column, it always looks out of place to me. Nice looking truck.
-
Would be on the way if I could fit 2 kids in the mj with me.

Adjusted the parking brake, and got the proportioning valve into the correct position to actually have some rear brakes.

"Winter passed" $50 charge for storage fee, then he sold it to someone else. bummer you got beaned for $50 on the deal, but with that amount of time passing, don't have any expectations of it being there.

I'm thinking that you have a bigger collection than Jim now. -
Both trucks are worthless, I will do you a favor and take them off your hands :brows:

The 2.5L is a good little motor, just don't push it and don't try to push it while on the highway going uphill. I had one in a TJ, it did good until I pushed it with 31" tires at 55mph going uphill...it didn't like that. Hopefully the new owner after didn't have to rebuild it a few months after I sold it. Considering the TJ was +500lbs curb weight compared to a MJ, it was at the limit of its resources.

Please help!! 4x4 what stay in high or low
COMJNUT replied to Cmbechtold's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The front axle disconnect comes to mind when its a single thump and looses front power...or could be something really wrong in the diff. (A few teeth sheared off on the ring and pinion gears.)
