  1. if you wanted, you can do a lot to that little 2.2, they can take a lot of power for the size.
  2. but it was just rebuilt! and the dents in the front brake up the boxy front end so it has better aerodynamics, so that gains like 10 hp alone! grill removed? saves weight! lol
  3. grill is upside down. also, is it just me, the lighting/angle of the pics, or does the right front fender and door not match the truck, like it's been repaired at some point? nice looking overall though.
  4. the j12 looks like a jk8, slightly longer, with a front end treatment to give a vintage look. no separate bed. as for the komanche, looks well done although i would have done a few things different, like not use the hatch glass and wiper, and no side exhaust. with a crd, i'd drive it.
  5. not my story but found it in a mitchell tech tip discussion: guy (i'll call him joe) walks into autozone and sees counter guy cashing out a customer with a heater blower resistor, blower motor, coolant, t-connector for flushing cooling system, chemical flush, and a heater core. joe talks with the counter guy: joe: what did he need all that for? counter guy: check engine light joe: a code told you he needed all that? counter guy: (with a proud look) yup! b1 heater circuit fault. joe: wow...(turns around and walks out the door) what gets me the most is their little reader lists possible causes, so evidently he didn't even read where it talks about o2 sensors and wiring...but nothing about heating and cooling systems.
  6. Yes, that!
  7. I've used so many different suppliers as I've worked at different shops and just on my own, and I've found it depends entirely on the individual store. My old shop used autozone a lot because they were decently knowledgeable, at least on the commercial side. A couple of the guys even are into XJs. However, the autozone near my current shop I don't trust at all. At the my old shop, NAPA couldn't find their own rear end half the time. Over here, they do a good job for us. O'Reilly I don't have much experience with, but Advance I've had both good and bad with. It's like any other business, some people work hard and do a good job, some don't.
  8. for several reasons, my wife and i are looking to move to california in the sacramento area. anyone around there know of any good mechanic jobs? i'm ASE certified in A1 and A4-A8, as well as certified my the state of michigan in the equivalent of A1-A8.
  9. the green one was originally an "alaskan postal jeep," as they are often called. the window on the side was added by whoever put it on the chevy frame i'm guessing. it's not right for the overlander top. a guy here in michigan had one for awhile, wouldn't mind having one.
  10. the wrangler radial is a good tire, no complaints especially for the money. the rt/s, in my opinion, is junk. especially in the snow or any wet traction. i currently have a couple goodyear sr/a's that are nice, and they actually cost less than the crappy rt/s but more than the radial.
  11. You are absolutely right. Had you bought a Corolla wagon ( Matrix) to equal the size & standard features of the Prius to make it more of an apples to apples comparison your numbers would be comparable with my Sonic's. Other than ego or "bragging rights" at the juice bar there is no economic advantage in the hybrid proposition. As it is now, you're right. Hybrids don't save money, and the lifecycle environmental impact isn't much better. However, right now the benefit in hybrids is improving the technology and thus lowering the price so that in the future they many be a legitimate option. Until then, if that ever happens, I agree.

    jeep truck!

i know a guy who had a cj10a he converted to 4wd by swaping in a waggy t-case and front axle, made an awesome little rig.
  13. probably a 2000 or 2001 for the cracked head. the redesigned heads they used for the coil-on-plug assembly is known for cracking, but they corrected the problem in 2002 from what i've been finding. but reguardless, your truck probably doesn't have a cracked head, that's pretty rare for the 4.0s in MJs. to answer your question, i'd get a "core" 4.0 used, one that might also have a rod knock but still ran decent. rebuild it into a 4.6, pack it with some oil to keep it from rusting and bag it in plastic until you need it, then swap when your 4.0 goes.

    Bad Day

wonder if that has anything to do with the court thing?
  15. i have a couple windshields to practice on. there's the cracked one, another old one i wasn't planning on using that's not cracked but not as good overall shape. i may try the bike cable trick, too. i have a broken one i need to replace anyways.

    oh crap !!!!

yes, and so do some chryco motors which have problems for other reasons. point being, it can be done fine. but that doesn't mean it is done well.

    oh crap !!!!

lots of cars use plastic intakes, just the 4.6 is noted for the higher failure rate.
  18. another example of why i love this site.. useful write ups like this
  19. thanks for the write up, i need to do this on an xj i have. nice thing is, i have a almost new windshield on a parts jeep, so i just need the urethane and rubber. another suggestion for removing glass is a tool like this: http://www.opentip.com/Automotive/Tool-Aid-Wndshld-Removal-Tool-p-3622339.html?gclid=CKPs_4bo2rECFQfCKgodEwYAHA S & G TOOL AID 87900 Wndshld Removal Tool $15 including shipping. supposedly, if you use a propane torch to keep it hot, it cuts through the urethane like butter. i haven't tried it yet though.
  20. it's not really my thing, but my manager has a minitruck s10, so i was trying to dig this up for him. :jump:
  21. and bringing something unique back up...

  24. i'm 26 but i know the reference. can't think of the name of the movie, but i've seen it.
