for the draw test biotex mentioned, it should be less than .3 amps key off with all doors closed and the hood light off. if you start at the underhood fusebox and isolate the main circuit, i can look up the wiring to see what all is on the fuse. just might take me a day or two to check back in.

unless the belt failed due to a locked pulley or a bad tensioner, they are not bad.

both the xj and the wife's van have a cheap set of tools with a few additions, one is a crescent set with sockets/wrenches/screwdrivers/some hex bits/allens. got that in high school as a gift years ago, mostly still there too. the other is a roadside special (fell out of someones truck or something): craftsman set with 1/4 and 3/8 sockets, and extra space i threw some other various tools in. if i'm going on a trip or know i need more, i have several tool boxes or bags that get loaded up with various tools from my work box, which is mostly snapon/matco/mac. once i loaded up the xj with everything to pull a motor and change the clutch in a saturn sw1 and drove 6 hours to the IL/WI boarder to help out a buddy. even threw the 33 gallon compressor in back for air supply, just used an engine lift provided by his now father in law.

to clear things up as i write, CPS doesn't mean crank sensor, CKP does. camshaft sensor is CMP. i'd start unplugging other sensors that use the 5 volt ref to see if any are shorting. there's a couple 5 volt ref circuits in that truck, the CKP shares the circuit with the CMP in the distributor, the MAP, and the TPS.

the reach depends on the rest of the system, not just the rig. i know a guy who has one of these in his durango, but he has one hell of an amp setup with a dual anntenna setup. he claims he's gotten bounce all the way to australia with it.

Did a quick search on that P1694 code, shorted 5 volt reference, on a tech site from work, found this: Orange wire mentioned is the sensor reference used by pretty much everything. Basically you'll need to check that wire for 5v. If it doesn't read 5, start unplugging sensors until it does. may end up needing a computer. however, there are also a lot of problems where that code is set by the crank sensor. that you're having issues with f22 makes me suspicious of the pcm. need some good electrical diagrams? i can get them emailed to you if you give me your addy.

where do you keep all that stuff rob?

no pic to prove, but one time i parked in a spot with about the much spare room in my first cherokee. only took 3 or 4 adjustments i think. when i got out, a guy sitting on a porch said he didn't think i'd be able to make it.

that last one looks a lot like my old truck, did it show any signs of bondo on the left rear quarter? if the pioneer details aren't quite the same from one side to the other, it probably is and i may have to go track down some people and have a beat down!

...and it's in the driveway now! http://annarbor.craigslist.org/cto/3432402295.html the blue 98 in that listing. with the parts i'll use and the ones i'll sell before scraping what's left, i'll be ahead all said and done with a nice new frontend for my dd and another xj to flip/sell. yes i know what's involved in getting the 98 head in a 2000, but i have the whole truck so no problem.
-
what's that module on the passenger side firewall?
-
since i'm currently without a MJ, i'd go for another parts XJ to fix up my DD and the other XJ i have, which needs a head to replace the cracked 0331 head on it. hopefully i'll be getting one today

Cleaning Inside "frame"
dfreeman616 replied to dfreeman616's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
no one has any suggestions? -
i've been cleaning up my truck and looking at doing some rust repair, and found a lot of junk built up in side the frame. i've been able to get some cleaned out through the drain holes, but there's 25 years of salt, sand, and other dirt built up in there. some of it i've been able to rinse out, but water isn't doing it very fast. anyone find something that works well?

at parts store: customer asks for parts for his fiso. clerk has no idea what that is, short "discussion" concludes with walking out and looking at the truck, a ford f150, which the customer continues to insist is a fiso. at my repair shop yesterday: customer walks in, talks to Allen at the front desk customer: do you guys have the adapter to run to things from the cigarette lighter? allen: no, we don't sell accessories here customer: this is autozone, isn't it?
