  1. I've transported an MJ bed. . . . . . . in the bed of my MJ. Actually, now that I think about it it wasn't my MJ, but my long bed Isuzu P'up. Still, it was awkward, but I only had to go 25mi, no highway.
  2. Welcome. :waving: East/west coast?
  3. I don't know if you'll need it with the degree of rust you have, but the basic spot weld cutter made by Blair tools works fantastic. They make fancier and more expensive ones and i've tried them, but for me their most basic cutter worked the best by far. Just make sure you order some extra cutting heads. http://shop.blairequipment.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=13224&gclid=CjwKCAjwk4vMBRAgEiwA4ftLsxjhzYKJgzFfIEuM002Wc_sf1SQCmkjcybAFPq7jPhWtBzF1PU5WkhoCT10QAvD_BwE Like said above a good mig welder is the right tool for the job here, but if you don't have one there are other options. Other people here have had a fair amount of success using rivets and a lot of seam sealer. I used 12ga sheet metal for the flat floor parts and 22ga for the hard stuff along the transmission tunnel. FYI 12ga sheet metal is pretty damn stout and hard to bend, but it makes for a really solid floor. On the other hand 22ga is pretty thin and easy to burn through, but i made it work and i'm only a novice welder. TIP 1: Clean up inside both frame channels really well and paint the hell out of them (POR-15 seems to be the product of choice). Once this job is done its likely they will never see the light of day again. TIP 2: If you want to paint your floorboard. I am a huge fan of tractor/implement paint from TSC (Tractor Supply Co). It comes in a variety of colors and once fully cured is almost indestructible. The only drawback is its cure time. For me here in south FL it takes about a month for it to be 100% fully cured and rock hard, its tack free in a couple days, but will still come up with your fingernail with a little pressure. Having a plasma cutter will make this job a lot easier. FPC.
  4. I appreciate their attempt, but the rounded front end and the boxy bed do not look good together. Like a total after thought. IMO, if someone could convert just the grill and headlight bezel to a more rectangular shape, like the original MJ, it would improve its looks tremdously. As it sits right now I don't care for it at all. BTW, is it just me or are those tires tiny?
  5. Sometimes, that is all that is left to do. Been there, done that and there was nothing tremendously wrong with mine. The truck was already gutted and I was bored with nothing to do . . . . . and I like electrical.
  6. Just discovered this for myself today, thought it would be terrific for folks who don't care if it's aftermarket or not. Universal fit, painless installation and killer price, I'm sold! https://www.ebay.com/i/331627712755 Here is a video of the installation. I am strongly considering buying a set. FPC
  7. They were low on washer fluid and filled the wrong thing. 98% of all vehicles I have seen have the caps labeled, motor oil, power steering, blinker fluid etc but I guess minis aren't labeled. Oh well, not my truck/car. Do you think this engine is salvageable in any way? I imagine it will need a total rebuild.
  8. Holy doodle, how in blue blazes do you mistake washer fluid for motor oil??? coolant I'll give you, but motor oil!?
  9. holy hell, that sucks so hard. My only suggestion as to find a complete wiring harness would be to look on carpart.com Or if you have the patience/ability try and repair what you have. There isnt a single Cherokee in your area you could pull a harness off of? fpc
  10. Did you buy the injectors new, rebuilt (ebay), or pull them from a junkyard? I am thinking that one of the injectors, possibly even two, are stuck open and dumping excess fuel.
  11. I appreciate all your responses, your willingness to be open and the time it took to share your stories. Whenever I get down or depressed I try and remember all that I do have and how fortunate I really am. It's very easy to get caught up in this infernal rat race, especially in a culture like the U.S. where more is always less. Shelbyluvv: Having never been in a relationship I can't begin to imagine what that must have been like. I'm sorry you had to endure that. To the mods, thank you for creating a place where my silly questions that have absolutely nothing to do with MJs can be asked. FPC
  12. This is the basic question I am asking, if you don’t want to read the wall of crap below. How much happiness would you be willing to sacrifice now for greater happiness that might or might not come in the future? Not eating out, not buying stuff for your Jeep, boat, ATV, shop, no TV/Cable, no internet, not going out with friends, etc. Ex. I just bought a boat motor for $500, which makes me happy, but was it one of those ten thousand small decesions that ends up putting finacial independence out of reach? I'm thinking yes. As we know the all mighty dollar is what makes the world go round. As a young person, 25yo here is that still considered a young person?, looking to the future, I am painfully aware of each passing year, lost time, and the importance of accumulating wealth. I do not come from wealth by any stretch of the imagination and was never taught about a thing about investing. Thankfully a long time (and successful) family friend has taken me under his wing and has given me invaluable advice on investing, but I’ve just scratched the surface. At first I was totally in the dark, now I have a lit match. My father is more of the 'live while your young' mentality, but I have grown to detest that notion. I believe that statement only applies to rich kids and the irresponsible who don’t have enough brain cells to think beyond Friday night. This is how I see the world, you can goof off and "live" while your young and mess around, backpack the country, couch surf, "have a good time" then by the time your thirty you start to settle down and get serious, but by then it’s to late and unless you already come from wealth as I said before or get lucky there is VERY little chance of being able to retire or become financially independent (wealthy) at any point in the future. If you’re lucky you can live a decent middle class life. The other option 'sacrifice' your youth working/building a business/college aka being responsible so that you can retire before your 70, if you live that long, and become financially independent/live off the interest of your assets. My goal in life is to become the financial pillar of my family and extended family. My brother is a big driver for me here. He is a machinist/welder/fabricator and easily the hardest working individual I have ever met. I have tremendous respect for him, but he has four kids and he is the sole income provider. If something happens to him, injury/illness it will put his family at great risk. No one in my family is exactly "rich" immediate or extended, they provide for themselves fine, but they all struggle from time to time. Some more so than others. I, unfortunately, am getting a late start towards this goal. I was a shut in during my younger/teenage years. I worked and went to college but didn’t finish. Now 25 I look back and see that not only did I not get to have very much fun, I didn’t make any progress accumulating wealth either. I am trying my hardest to catch up though. I have a decent little business now, handyman, that keeps me busy, but I don’t make a lot, approx $1350 a month, and will be returning to college this fall to complete my engineering degree. At some point in the future I plan on opening an engineering firm. After having my current business, there is no way I could work for someone else again long term. Business ownership is in my blood now and I will do what I need to do to start another. This is the basic question I am asking, if you don’t want to read the wall of crap above. How much happiness would you be willing to sacrifice now for greater happiness that might or might not come in the future? Not eating out, not buying stuff for your Jeep, boat, ATV, shop, no TV/Cable, no internet, not going out with friends, etc. Ex. 13. The last time he was at my brothers house. We have a big oak tree in the pasture behind the house. This is where we decided to bury Amos. My mom's first horse, Daisy May, is buried just 10ft away. FYI he is still alive in this picture. He is laying in the exact spot where we buried him. This is why we choose to put him here. This is our "shop", me and my brother have spent years working on various projects under its tiny roof. Amos was always always with us and we wanted to keep it that way. Now he can rest under the oak tree and continue to watch us for years to come.
  14. Comanche was a little small for him up front. One last ride for an old hound dog.
  15. Well gentlemen, this is one update I wish to god I never had to make, but I'm afraid the time has come and gone and now this tiny corner of the world has become a little darker. At 6:15pm today (5/5/17) my best and most loyal friend of 12 years and unofficial mayor of the neighborhood as ordained by the community left this world. Although I was not able to have an at home euthanasia, his passing was a calm and loving one, with my brother and I at his side through it all. The speed at which the drug takes effect is extremely fast, almost to fast. In one moment his head is up, eyes open, aware of us and the world. Then his head begins to fall, rapidly, as the drug takes him and within a second or two . . . he is gone, his body stirs no more, his are eyes fixed. Even though i know he is not in pain, this transition from 'life' to 'no life' is excruciating to watch and left me in a stupor of disbelief and shock. The grief and sadness I feel is overwhelming. How could something so precious, so special be ripped from our lives? Torn away as if it never existed. Before we took him in several neighbors came by to say their last goodbyes. It's hard to convey just how much this dog was loved by the community. The neighbors who came to say goodbye were just as grief stricken as my brother and I. He wasn't just our dog, he was everybody's dog. I feel sick inside, I've lost a family member that can never, will never be replaced. I know I will recover, but this loss will always stay with me. I hope to be able to add some pictures here in the coming days. Even though he is gone I can still share his memory with others. Even though i can't hold you in my arms any more I will always hold you in my heart. I/we love you Amos and always will. R.I.P. Thanks for your kind words and understanding. FPC.
  16. I suppose i should mention that it has over 250k miles and has been used extensively off-road as well as used to pull excessively heavy loads dozens of times. It's been submerged in water/mud countless times and has only had the oil changed once in its life that i am aware and that was only in the last 20k miles. A properly maintained and lightly used ax-15 probably should last forever, but as I've pointed out mine hasn't had it easy.
  17. So with the ax15 on life support, it's grinding sitting there in neutral, I decided to park it. Thankfully my brother has a spare truck, (Toyota yuck, jk I love Toyotas) that he gave to me to drive until I get the jeep fixed. Now that I have a reliable vehicle to drive while the Jeep is parked I think I will take a crack at rebuilding the transmission myself. I know I can Google "ax-15 master rebuild kit" and get a hundred different options, but I wanted to know if there is one in particular you guys would recommend. I need/want the most complete kit I can get my hands on. Gears, sycros, bearings, etc everything. Thanks, FPC
  18. 3 days, my god. I don't know if that made it easier or harder. For better or worse Amos's condition will be much more drawn out, but he is still here and seems to be doing well given the circumstances. His shoulder and leg have swole up a little more, but he does not seem to pay it that much attention. He definitely favors that leg but he stills gets around quite well. Without a doubt, the hardest thing about this will be having to put him down even though he is perfectly healthy otherwise. Without amputation the pain the cancer causes simply becomes to much to bear, even with medication.
  19. I cut my steering shaft shorter for more space. I'm only 5' 11.5" and not quite a $1.50 I don't know how some of you bigger guys manage.
  20. My beloved catahoula leapord (Amos Moses) of 12 years was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) today. I took him in because his right shoulder had swollen up and hes started to limp a little bit. Unfortunately this cancer, if that's what it truly is, is quite aggressive and becomes more painful as it progresses. The vets prognosis was pretty bleak. He gave him six months to a year to live. Treatment is the same as with any other cancer cut, burn, and or poison. They would have to amputate his entire front right leg. While this would relieve the pain entirely, it would do nothing to stop the cancer and increase his life expectancy only marginally. In this situation amputation seems to simply be a more aggressive means of pain control. You can't even begin to understand how much this dog is loved, not only by my family, but also my entire neighborhood. I have a neighbor down on the corner who put a dog door in his house specifically so Amos can come and go as he pleases AND he has a dog food bowl with his name on it in his house. This neighbor has dogs of his own but only Amos is allowed in the house. In the end the decision was made that because of his advanced age and the advanced stage of cancer that the best course of action would be to manage his pain as best as possible and try and enjoy his companionship for what precious little time we have left with him. If I can find the time i will try and upload a picture. My brother is the one who found Amos or more accurately Amos found my brother one day 12 years ago while he was out on a job putting up fence. We've had him ever since and he has been the most amazing dog we have ever known. I could write a book on all his amazing qualities, he is truly a one of a kind dog that will never exist again. If you have had an animal with this disease I would like to know about your experience. Thanks for reading FPC.
  21. I didn't see anywhere in your post a burning desire to keep it all "jeep". Have you considered a simple carburated small block Chevy and turbo 400/350 combo? I have the exact setup in my j10 and it goes pretty good. I don't think a 4.0 will be to much fun in a j-truck, to heavy, but thats just my opinion. Either way I'd love to see some pictures. FPC.
  22. My parents have two, 5spd 4x4 toyota tercel wagons. These are the only cars I have ever seen with selectable 4x4. They also have an extra low gear within the transmission that is only available once 4wd has been engaged. They both still run w/ nearly 300k on each, but they have a myriad of problems. Not to mention they lack any modern niceties. Pwr windows, a/c, airbags, etc How rare are these cars? My searches on CrL seem to say very, as it is very rare to see one for sale. Were there any other cars made with selectable 4wd? As I said I have never seen or heard of another car with selectable 4wd. Even cars with awd seem quite rare. For several years now I have been strongly advocating for my parents to get rid of them, and get something newer. But I am starting to appreciate their uniqueness and considering trying to hold onto them and fix them back up proper. Tell me what you think. FPC.
  23. How did you test for spark? How did you test for fuel pressure? Pushing the Schrader valve on the fuel rail is not an adequate fuel test. Are you sure you're not just out of gas? My truck has precisely the same symptoms when it is nearly out of gas. If you truly have no spark, the best place to start is your CPS. There isn't a good way to test these with a standard multimeter. Best option, if questionable is to replace it, with genuine Mopar if possible. After that look to your plugs, cap, and rotor for wear/carbon build up. Standard heat champion brand copper core plugs work well with 4.0/2.5 Also I prefer brass vs aluminum terminal material. After that look to your ignition coil. Can be tested with multimeter. Google instructions. After that, check your ICM ignition control module under the coil. Had to replace this on my 4.0 just last year, but symptoms were not same. I was able to determine mine was bad using my multimeter, but only after I had purchased a new unit and was able to test them side by side. I do not remember the figures offhand though. FPC
  24. Jeep driver: You mean opposite? 3rd gear IS the problem with mine. Amongst other things. PeteM: I sometimes do it compulsively and it does bring the engagement point up higher in the clutch travel, but it doesn't seem to effect shifting. Some info that may be of interest. If I keep the rpms super low (1100) it shifts much nicer, although 3rd has still gotten stuck a couple times. Even if there is a problem with the clutch not fully disengaging, I feel there is a deeper issue with the trans and it is just being exacerbated by a partially functioning clutch. Plus the fact that my pilot bearing is nonexistent, it just needs to be pulled and given a refresh. The clutch itself easily has 100k on it, so it's getting due too. FPC
  25. Tex06: What would sitting on an incline tell me that flat ground wouldn't? In that case I suppose I would go with an external slave, that is so long as the conversion is to much extra. Airborne: Yes, Redline MT-90. I've known about the syncro issue for a while. Unfortunately my trans was headed south long before hand, adding mt-90 was just a last ditch effort to squeeze a few more miles out of it. I will definitely be using MT-90 in my next trans whatever it is. Update: 3rd gear has become a liability overnight, it gets stuck in gear almost every time I try to use it. Have to skip from 2nd to 4th now, which results in grinding. Everytime if the rpms aren't below 1k.
