  1. It's called facing the reality that is in front of you. Some of us can, some of us can't. I'm not the downer here.
  2. The 84-85 XJ with the 2.5 was carbed, not TBI. Carbed ran Vbelt, TBI had the serpentine. 99% sure it was TBI. Guess we'll never know. So many photographers round here...............
  3. https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_swatch_chrysler_1989 Scroll half way down, only charcoal associated with Jeep is Chrysler Dark Charcoal. HS8 Sounds to me like you are reading an AMC plate as though it were a Chrysler plate, hence your confusion of codes. It would be an absolute fluke if your dealer actually has a rattle can, and if he did, do you want a 20 year old rattle can? During the early Obummer years, thousands of dealerships closed, some were taken over, most moved their old stock to aftermarket retailers such as Vintage Parts. Want to get laughed at? go to a dealer today and ask for that touch up rattle can for an 80s anything. -hell, for a 90s anything- It has become disingenuous to tell people here to go the the dealer anymore for much of anything. Let us know what you do. Curious.
  4. Guess you didn't get the point. He's on an island. '89 is a transition year. AFAIK, Chrysler/Direct Connection/Mopar ended support of AMC badged Jeeps about 15 years ago. '89 color scheme will be a holdover from AMC. Find it for him, easy peasy.
  5. TSC sells a hardener for their oil based paints/industrial paints. Added to Rustolium, you'll get three times the longevity. Just a thought, if you are doing a second coat. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/majic-catalyst-hardener-clear-half-1-2-pint You can find similar products elsewhere, also.
  6. You are the guy this thread was intended for-
  7. Example- http://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/jeep/1988/all-models/ Link lists colors for 1988 Jeep, my color, Coffee, is not listed. Wonderful world of books, it is a wonderful world, those books. However, unless the book lists the code, chip, formula, books bring you to a very unique place, it's referred to as SOL. Here are color listings for 1989, no interior colors, no int formulas- http://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/jeep/1989/all-models/ So, unless you can find a shop with the color, chip, formula..........................SOL. Maybe you'll find it, maybe you won't. Or, you can do what I did.
  8. If you really want to make this work- You'll have to run a new brake light circuit from your brake light switch. Easy to do, just time consuming. IWOs, your existing brake/turn will remain on the amber lamp. You'll disconnect one side of the brake switch, from there you'll run new wires to your brake wire on the lamp. Run it through the existing loom just like it is now. Don't do a BS job of just stringing wire.........you're gong to have problems, snagged or grounded out.
  9. Is it TBI? I would assume so. With serpentine belt? Look to other Renix era 2.5s or 4.0s. The 2.5 pump is configured differently in that it has a remote reservoir, it is otherwise the same pump. HO pulleys will NOT fit, different belt alignment.
  10. The 'turn' wire IS your brake wire. You don't have amber turn like the newer vehicles. You used your brake/turn wire on the amber.
  11. How many wires are coming out of the red lamp?
  12. IIRC, the 86 has two bolts with nuts that can only be gotten to from inside the fender. You'll have to reach up in to get them.
  13. Have you got power to the coil What I'm wondering is if you're failing to get power to the run circuit at the ignition switch
  14. It's refreshing to see someone else put some effort into his truck. Thanks for the pics.
  15. It's possible there is no drive gear on the output shaft
  16. I dropped off my sketch/measurements and cluster/bezel with the fabricator today. The quote was astronomical, I won't state what I'm paying for this. This is the reason this has never been done before. Now I have to make money and wait. Gauges won't be here for another 2 weeks anyway.
  17. All my interior pieces are now painted, bagged, waiting. I'm very pleased at how well these turned out. Couple of other goodies came in this week. Passenger A pillar was broke, I patched it with JB plastic epoxy and glass strands, very strong repair. A couple of screw tabs has also broken and I repaired those the same way.
  18. That tach runs off a traditional coil........don't think it's going to work for you. You'll need one from a '87 through '90.
  19. ........ummmmm.................
  20. No, that Painless is not compatible with yours as a replacement. see page 4 See vid I posted, actually watch it. You will find your fuse block at Painless, the fuse block in the vid above is your block, so, I know that Painless has it, call them. That said, I highly recommend that you find a 87-90 XJ AUTO! and find a good block that you remove yourself, it's the act of removing the good one that advances your learning curve before you go stripping yours out.....besides the fact that you'll save $200. Find a cardboard box, a five gallon recliner, and tell the rest of the world to go pound for 2 hours................one wire at a time, NO distractions. Regardless of what anyone else says, I recommend you solder your clips. Clips can be found at Dell City. I ordered 20 singles and 10 of the 4 clip strips, the 4s can be cut down to 2s and 3s.
  21. If you look closely at this pic you will see that the black has worn off the windshield trim, revealing that all of them are chromed and that the black plastic coating is over chrome. You can scuff and prime and paint yours. Or, you can order a new windshield and request that a 97+ rubber trim be used, as I am. As to the drip rail trim, don't' know about the one that was 'glued' on but mine has small clips- bet yours does too- place two thumbs underneath and push and roll upwards and the trim will come off.........just don't lose your clips.
  22. https://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/d/1989-jeep-comanche-pickup/6618713029.html I may be looking at it tomorrow night, it belongs to a neighbor of family. I'll let you know if there's anything to report.
