  1. I've been rather unmotivated lately, waiting on my cluster tray. In the mean time, I did cut out the B-pillars for the 6x9s.
  2. I suspect the bracing is there for a side impact. Your call.
  3. Is the KJ in otherwise good shape? If so, ask her if you can buy it from her for few hundred dollars, take a year to build a new engine at your leisure. A year from now you'll have a decent driver.
  4. Why?
  5. Right. Some things are not worth what one might think though. The interior pieces is what I'd be after. TBI is worth $150 on ebay.
  6. Hurst/Core short throw. With the right stick........they do make a longer more curved stick.............. You can shift with your wrist and you elbow on the console. It's that short, really. Just something to consider.
  7. Powers That Be. Those in charge. Cocke County is somewhat of an enigma and you have to live here for years to understand what is going on. You wouldn't know it but there is tremendous wealth here, tremendous wealth. Newport is the county seat of Cocke. Cocke truly was, and still is to some extent, the Wild Wild East. Organized crime, prostitution, drugs, murder, thievery, corruption at the highest levels, doctors, lawyers, judges, cops, all on the take. And of course, the moonshine capital of the country, moonshine is now legal here. I work in Gatlinburg now, I have not worked in Cocke for about three years. Some of my customers here are very wealthy and yet they refused to pay me fairly for my work, and now that they know what my prices are, they don't hire me at all. They got theirs and damned if they will allow you to have any of it. One customer is now a widow and I continue to take care of her. Edit- I was going to give a couple of examples, however, my wife works for a quasi govt entity........we are very close to some of the people in charge here. Trust me, I've got stories.
  8. Anyone who has ever actually listened to Melloncamp's songs knows he's mocking the American culture. But there is some truth in his mockery. What's happening here is what happened in FL from the early 80s to the mid 2000s, population explosion and mass urban sprawl, and from what I can tell it continues to this day, maybe at a slower pace. I'm watching it happen, again, but you can't tell anyone about it, the PTB, the common slugs, like the marching of ants, are oblivious. The people here are backwards, slow, extremely religious and even more ignorant. It's common knowledge that 70% of the residents here are on the dole, EBT and SSI (and every other form), if they are not meth-heads, drunks, or homeless, if you cannot see it for yourself, ask anyone and they'll tell you about it. Tattoo parlors are thriving, as well as are the pawn shops. The food sucks, man does it ever suck. The only sanity around here are the 20% who work and us 'foreigners'. E TN is experiencing a population explosion, it's great for business, however......... I live in a sleepy little town north of Newport Tn, to go any direction but north we have to pass through Newport or go the long way around. Four lane highways to the north, four lane to the south (not complete yet), and I40 east and west. But Newport? no, all of which is choked down to two lanes, multiple red lights, and one RR crossing at which the gate routinely malfunctions and is replaced at least once every three months due to being hit and broken. I have nicknames for these little cities which cannot be mentioned here. Today. Driver is lucky to be alive, trailer was hit just behind the tractor, train came to a stop little less than a mile away. I could not get to the other side of the tracks to get pics of the trailer but you can imagine.
  9. I got mine from Advance Auto Parts if I remember correctly and the quality is fine there was a couple years ago never a problem No it will not come with a rubber plug you will have to slice the plug remove it from the old cable put the new cable through the slice and then silicone it in
  10. IMO- 94 to 98 are the best years to search for. 4.10 will only come in the 2.5 XJs. Happy searching.
  11. Yeah, I know. If you are getting no power to the 4 pin connector, you need to look behind the fuse block. Just because the fuse looks OK, does not mean that the connection behind the fuse is OK. Standard trans MJs and XJs are known for having corroded fuse blocks.
  12. The valve got unstuck, you started it up, warmed up, got stuck again. This makes more sense than 2 or more coil packs going bad at once.
  13. http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2010/04/misfire-3-7-4-7-dodge-or-jeep-falling-rocker-arm-problem/ Valves sticking. This is likely the problem. Cause for the no compression that you state the mech found.
  14. http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/sticking-valves-03-3-7l-57795/ Read last post.
  15. Two years ago I replaced my fuel pump with a Bosch. At the time I complained that the pump was slow to respond and remained sluggish, I referred to the pump as a POS. Pump would slowly prime to 14lbs but when throttle was applied it would dip down to 10-12lbs. Cab forward, I have gone through most if not all the wiring- Head light harness C101 delete. New cables, new grounds. Eliminated all unnecessary wiring. Aftermarket ignition switch. New fuse block. New alt, new starter, new ignition module (NOS).........etc..etc....etc............. Still have more to do, aftermarket gauges, existing gauge wiring will be modified or removed. Still have to wire the amp and so forth. The only wiring that I have not gotten to was the rear, tail lights and fuel pump. Bed is coming off for paint, new tail lights, and I will rewire for trailer brakes/lights and peekaboo back up lights. Back to the fuel pump- Last weekend, after reading of some of the complaints here, I decided to remove the taillight and look at the G107, I've been aware of it, just never bothered. Here- Not only was there common corrosion around the sheet metal screw (no rust) but as you can see the corrosion runs deep into the wire. I ran a new ground temporarily to a ground post at the rear. Pump now primes immediately and will hold 17lbs regardless of throttle. Pump is now running as it should. More here- Anecdotal? No, Jeep wiring is notoriously for $#!&. Why my post? Currently, page one- No start. Strange blinker. Battery overheats. Radio pops. No back up lights. Wiper speeds. No spark. Horn relay. Same questions, same causes, same answers. If you have not gone completely through your wiring, you need to. If you are not comfortable, take it one wire at a time. But look at the big picture, otherwise, you'll spend all your time chasing one problem after another.
  16. Run a new ground to the chassis of the radio. I'm going to suggest to you that none of your grounds are fine. If you have not been through your wiring yet, you need to.
  17. Ever hear the phrase?- Don't ask a question you don't already know the answer to. If you have to ask, you really don't know. Advise accordingly. Until people learn to use a camera and post pics of what you've got.....ie..........the rod and main journals............ Everyone is just pissing in the breeze. OP, post some pics.
  18. You're not dealing with common knock You ran it dry Bearings oil pump front and rear seal oil gaskets Etc will run you about $300 It will take you about 14 hours worth of work assuming you know what you're doing and assuming that you can use standard bearings and you don't have to plastigage each bearing You can find the Rod that knocks the worst by pulling your spark plug wires one at a time while the engine is running Pull that Rod cap take a photograph it would be interesting to see that bearing Journal Any foreign material in your oil passageway will come back to haunt you It's your time and money just know that whatever you invest now you'll have to throw away because it will become contaminated referring particularly to your new oil pump Post your results but I don't believe your cam bearings survived anyway and just because it runs now doesn't mean it will run a month from now
  19. One mile with no oil/pressure? You've spun a cam bearing anyway. You're pulling the engine. Regardless of what you can or cannot do with the bottom end.
  20. Yours is running, that's all that matters. Thank you.
  21. Just looked up the value of 06 Liberty. My mother has the 02, it's their junk car now, they have a new Cherokee. $4000 to $6000 retail on a really really good day. Reality- $4500 as a average. If you paid for a rebuilt engine, or paid to have that one rebuilt, start to finish, shop prices, all said, my guess is $4200 on the low end, $4800 on the high end. New engine exceeds value. This is the question that will face 80% of car owners from now on. Just a straight rebuild, no extras, no goodies, just you doing the work, machining costs included, you might get by for $1400.........only then is it worth it.
  22. Highly over rated. The 'new' ain't new no more.
  23. There has to be a frame, its the frame that the gasket/trim attaches to.
