I'll save you my life story....... At 19 I went to work for national crane company as a painter, I hated it. The shop for crane company was leased from Bob Gorby, Gorby offered me a job as his kept boy, hated that too. Besides mowing his lawn and taking out his trash, I had to dust off his Corvette collection (one for every year at that time) and wax his Cigarette boats. After a time he let me work on his race car, 67 Camaro. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c1-and-c2-corvettes/3867109-bob-p-gorby.html Interestingly, I just found this thread, that 'coupe' is likely the 67 Camaro that I worked on more than 30 years ago. One of Gorby's racing buddies used his shop to prep for the 1985 St Pete Grand Prix, I got to work on a Cam Am car, for that I got pit passes, it was a big deal at the time. The point of my abbreviated story? I was a 19 year old idiot, I could have worked my way into a Formula 1 crew or at least be associated in some way with a racing team. But no, I had my head up my @$$. I have a similar story with Jim Walter Homes, Mrs Walter offered me a job as a caretaker of her homes (world wide), I was 34 then, I could not handle the job and I knew it, I walked away from her offer. You only get so many mistakes to make. Don't be me.

Look 20 years down the road. Publix is a good company, if you are already moving through management, you'll make good money. Longsighted people fair much better than the shortsighted. Trust me, 30 years of your life will escape you like a summer's breeze. You can only afford so many mistakes. Live your dreams on your time. Learn to weld first, if welding becomes your life's work, you'll find yourself there naturally.

1986 - 2.8 Water Temp Gauge
Jeep Driver replied to AMC86Kid's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In your other thread- you stated that you let the V6 run from a cold start for 3 minutes, you stated that water did not flow. From a cold start my engine will take 7-8 minutes to get to a running temp of 195, and it stays there, Efan cycles at 195, I have a 192 stat. Your V6 running temp should be between 160 and 180, no more. You do not have an electronically controlled ign and fuel system, there is no reason to be anywhere near 210 (I don't agree with that number anyway). If you have, for example, a 190 stat, water will not flow until 190. There is no way your V6 got to running temp of 190 in 3 minutes, and you came nowhere close to overheating in 3 minutes from a cold start. If you cannot afford an Infrared temp gun, you can certainly afford a $12 Sun mech temp gauge sold at every AP store. Hook that up temporarily and you should have a good idea of what your running temp is, + or - a few degrees. You are chasing your tail on this one..........and I don't know why........... Remove the stat and see if water flows. -
Ring and pinion break in question
Jeep Driver replied to Jacob Ochs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just drive it, you'll be fine. 99% of what get's passed off as 'imperial common knowledge' is nothing more than BS. As a demonstration of how much I reject common knowledge, I'm using 40w motor oil in both difs and my trans. How does Pro Stock break in a new 9" center section? A 1500hp thrashing down the 1/4 mile. -
Study their prices carefully, compare. You'll find that they are marked up beyond the 30% that they make you think you are getting off. I've all but stopped buying from them for that reason, I don't like my intelligence insulted. I get their 20% off ads everyday even though everyone knows they have 30% off codes.

I'm not a battery expert............ If I'm not mistaken, that is just an outer case that keeps the inner cases together. It's not going to leak or explode. That battery can be mounted upside down, they are not like regular lead batteries.
-
Ok, free to you then, good. Use'm I'd wrap that cracked on up with some 200mph duct tape and forget about it.
-
Why didn't you simply return the batteries and tell them to try again? I won't pay for damaged anything.
-
Parts are getting harder and harder to find you better get it while you can

It's not based on an XJ. One of you can call the guy and ask...............but, length is too long and bed will not bolt up to XJ sub frame.
-
I'm not going to defend this seller as I did another............heims on steering....... That said, XJ 2dr, cab stretch, short bed to allow for cab stretch......... When you pull that one off and get away with it, paint ain't that bad either..........then you can criticize all you want. Until then.......crickets. From the pics, seller did a nice job with the stretch.

It's an '86, that's why. Besides the 2.8...........age, age is worse for wear than miles.

Looks line Tampa get a reprieve. I'd consider a small diesel unit, more efficient. Actually, I'd like a have a 3pt unit for my little tractor.

Mechanical pumps do not use a return. Two reasons to run a return type regulator for a continuous running inline fuel pump- Keeps the pump cool, pumps need to flow fuel to keep cool. Secondly, without a return line, you stand a chance of flooding the engine with fuel when pump is running and engine is not. The pressure needs to go somewhere. You need to start from scratch. A good fuel pump will run you about $100-150, you need a good regulator and you need to run a return line. You also need to wire it properly. You need a new carb. You need a proper fan. You need a plan, and some mechanical help, someone local with that can help you sort this out.

My daughter is in Clwr. What I suspected days ago is now happening. Irma will go into the gulf and strengthen. I didn't say anything before now, the only person I told was my brother.........he got out. Tampa Bay gets this one. There will be a lot of dead in FL, praying my daughter is not one of them. She will not leave her mother. Stupid is as stupid does. The liars on TV got this wrong, they are always wrong.
-
You've got a constant electric fuel pump, you must have a return at the regulator. Your regulator should be at the pump.
-
I suspect the regulator is installed wrongly. You have a gauge........it tells you what? I suspect the gauge is plumbed on the inlet side and the fuel line is plumbed on the regulated return or gauge side.

Taped off wire under the hood - 89 2.5l 2wd
Jeep Driver replied to bruceb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The thermo housing is for a late model, you have no sensor there, your temp sensor is in the intake manifold, disregard. The wire is likely the power steering idle-up, you can disregard that too. -
I have a daughter down there still, and a brother. Major arteries are at a near standstill. I know my way out and I'm trying to convince my daughter to get out now. This is the largest exodus of people in US history..............unless you have ever lived there............... Reserving further comment.

D44 Disc Brake Conversion Questions
Jeep Driver replied to crumbscomanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
H--- S---! What a great find! https://www.americanrebelmfg.com/product-page/ch8-25-xjp Thanks! -
Yes, pulling through the radiator toward the engine. Fans come CW or CCW or some refer to them as RR or reverse rotation, depending on whether or not your retained the Vbelt or you are using the later serpentine belt. If you have the serpentine, the 2.8 fan may push, not pull.
