I got LUK 05065. This one is listed in the "Daily Driver" section on Rockauto. Your LUK number is listed in the Heavy Duty section. -
Parts Recommendations for Ax15 swap

Cross referencing part numbers on Rockauto, suggests that Jeep switched to the external slaves in 94. Be sure to measure the input shaft tip. If it has 3/4" tip, get a pilot bearing/bushing for the one I reference above. If 1/2", then you could use your existing pilot bearing/bushing. As for the clutch hydro master slave kit, you could get this https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1382128&cc=1180213&jsn=883&_nck=ZExt1ysfqhqWnq%2BEvUNdS3Txyey60IDtnjPWF5UU9J0BWQv7pvqZbkEUk86%2BAYIh8MwADrWeNyZVx6scY4p8ZP7Qz6OBF7E3DiJ%2BXUqCTbp2UDPUPAgcw0uTzDaZroiTRTGdgRNnTw7sW0VoJiMl9DtHJjd5RywoKEvIex8Iwlitv2Ppq2R6C10nrGvw%2BoWtQR7PTNvRVma0Bd7nhd3ZCJhXf5K6Y8vUem3Mne8RmvrnZ4kijFqWx4lZGtDX8hpfOp%2FxEeNEzQJbJAQmTb4H0u6oBlOL2xFNKMygr9vvwyErbrsCvAMKRfvxaW08WVuRaatHxaMubJRJTntSkcctrBJ5M2G4gvbt Since you are going to the external slave system ( good plan), get a clutch kit for a 94+ XJ. It will have the proper pressure plate and release bearing. -
Parts Recommendations for Ax15 swap

Blaine - What year is the AX15 from? The reason is that the trans input shaft tips changed sizes. Early AX15 (89 to 94{?}) have 1/2" input shaft tips. Later models have a 3/4" tip. If yours is the later model, then order a pilot bushing for a 75 CJ5 with a 304 engine. The outer diameter and inner diameters will fit your 4.0. If your AX15 came with the external slave cyl, then it is most likely the 3/4" tip. As Phatton says, the trans out put shaft is 23 splines, so the tcase behind your BA10 won't fit. You could do what he did or just get the matching tcase that was with your AX15. Additionally, you will need the tcase shift linkage that was with the AX15, unless you go with aftermarket linkage. The vacuum controlled 4wd can be bypassed. See the CAD elimination in the help section. Get the cross member for the AX15. Your current cross member will not work on the new trans. The front and rear drive shafts will work with your swap. You should not need to change your flywheel. The FW goes to the engine computer not the trans. Get a clutch kit for the trans, especially if you have the later trans. First, I had kept the pressure plate that was with the BA10. It would shift, but it never felt right. Later, I swapped the PP and it shifts better. I purchased the All-in-One pre-bled hydro clutch master slave cylinder kits sold on Rockauto. -
Loud fuel pump, fuel ballast resistor deleted
87MJTIM replied to mark corbitt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That is Jeep's way of grounding engine compartment components in one location. One of the wires is for the blower fan FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE of the engine compartment. See Cruiser's tips to ground the blower to the passenger side. -
Loud fuel pump, fuel ballast resistor deleted
87MJTIM replied to mark corbitt's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 87 did not come from the factory with a ballast resistor. However, there was a TSB to add a ballast resistor to address the noisy fuel pump. Your resistor may not have been deleted; your truck may never have had one. I have an 87 XJ that had a ballast resistor added. -
Snow shoveling? I don't see OEM on Ebay. Most seem to be C.R.A.P. A parts number search (on Rockauto) seems to have 87-96 matching. Diff part #s for 84-86 and 97+.

My fan blower has been squealing a lot lately. It happens mostly and the loudest on cold days. The fans still moves air and has multiple speeds. I guess it is the bearings going bad. Are new fans still available? Up to which year XJs will fit an 87? I have access to two XJs (87 and 93) to get blowers from, but they're not much younger than the one I have. Can oiling the bearing fix the noise for long-term?

I cannot speak for all states, but the Peoples' Democratic Republic of Maryland has rules/restrictions on how dark tinting is allowed. Southern states have different rules. Just saying...

Renix/HO mashup questions (fuel pressure)

I am no expert on the 2.5. I believe it has much of the computer electronics of RENIX. -
Renix/HO mashup questions (fuel pressure)
87MJTIM replied to JeepComanche89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
RENIX was the partnering of Renault and Bendix. In the 80s, AMC was partially owned by Renault. AMC gave the Jeep 4.2/258 engine to Renault to "fix it up" with fuel injection. Thus, the RENIX fuel injection system. Some Jeepers swear by it; others swear at it. I believe yours is a RENIX. -
I just don’t care for him.

After-Market Temp Gauge Causing Misfire?
87MJTIM replied to Boltjd's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You wrote you have an 88 4.0. The factory temp gauge sensor is located at the back of the cylinder head, close to the fire wall. It only controls the dash gauge. The sensor for the computer is on the block, below the manifolds. If your sensor is on the t-stat housing, then a PO changed the housing to a later style. If the PO ran a wire from the original location to the t-stat housing, that does not change the computer functioning (unless a PO did a HO swap). If yours is still RENIX, the temp gauge wiring does not run through the computer. I "should not" effect engine firing. -
I purchase a set as part of the "group buy" several years ago. I am very pleased with them. I have loaded the bed with some camping gear and the bed doesn't even move. The old springs would start to sag with a little bit of weight (one of the leaves was broken). Same as Knucklehead, the back was lifted about 3.5". I put 1.75" pucks up front to even it out, but it still has that "70's hot rod look." The springs have not settled down, yet.

Speaking (or writing) as a CPA with knowledge of taxes, I can say that for some states (MD, for example) charge sales tax on "Shipping and Handling." The reasons for this is beyond the scope of my reply. If the charges are reported separately, i.e. "shipping" and "handling" then only "handling" is subject to sales tax. Different states may/will treat the two services as one or not tax them at all. Because of the recent Supreme Court ruling (Wayfair), most on-line retailers have to charge sales tax on all sales to customer in states that charge sales tax. Given the complexity of sales tax rules (48 states charge sales tax, within states local sales tax rules apply, and different items can be taxed at different rates, etc.), Rockauto may take a simple rule of charging sales tax on all applicable sales and items. Most states will not charge sales tax to a reseller of parts - auto repairs shops and other retailers. I don't know where you live and what the sales tax rules in your state may be. If you believe you are getting charged sales tax incorrectly, do you own research on your state's tax department website. Do your own research, don't just tell RA that they're wrong. Remember, they have high priced lawyers and accountants to help them. If your research proves you are correct, then write (do not email) to RA and present your argument and evidence. If that does not satisfy you, shop somewhere else. Getting a refund? Fat chance.

I got a train set when I was 5 (50 Yrs ago). I played with for years until my mid-teens. I never got rid of them. When I moved into my current house (92), I eventually got it out again. I had not used it much. I eventually "put it away," but have not given up on it. One day I will get it out again (grandchildren, maybe?). (BTW: I still love getting stopped at RR crossing for a train to pass.)

The fill plug is on the passenger's side up high. The drain plug is on the driver's side down low. A wise man once said to loosen the fill plug BEFORE draining in the gear oil. If you drain it first, and cannot remove the fill plug, you're screwed. (Yes, you can fill it from the top shift tower, but that is a lot of work to get to.)

There was a guy at the York PA Jeep show several years ago with "possibly" one of those. It was a Comanche with an open bed, BUT all the body pieces were one solid unit. The bed was not separate from the cab. I asked the owner if it was a Cherokee that had lots of body work. He insisted it was original. I walked away thinking he was BS'n me. Maybe he was tellin' the truth. I remember it was a dark blue. Anyone else remember this?
