4.5 Inch Lift Kit?
Blue88Comanche replied to Jacob Ochs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Depends on the axle, spring perch height, thickness of the spring pack, and the condition of your springs (sagging or not). Lift can vary from 4.5 to about 6 inches depending on the above conditions. -
One of our trainers at the gym swears by the cooper at tires. He loves them and recommends them to everyone.
-
The general grabbers have almost the same tread design as the BFG and are cheaper.
-
I bought my general grabber at 2 from tirerack.com and had them mounded locally.

Those tend to go bad as well. I pulled 6 from the jy and only 1 worked.

Thermostat Questions
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Replaced the thermostat today with a 195. It seems to be working properly now. The store did not have one with that little valve, so I drilled a small hole about where it is located in the pic above. The old thermostat was labeled 195, I am going to test it later to see what was going on with it. -

I guess that little valve needs to be oriented towards the 12 o'clock position? -

Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Due to the weather my locker installation was delayed till Monday. UPS apparently does not deliver while the south is frozen. Located my 242 shift gate. Hopefully I can get around to swapping them around. -
Thermostat Questions
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the replies, I plan to stop by the auto parts store today. -
Last May a few days before my read axle bit the dust, I replaced the thermostat. I think i ended up with a 160F thermostat or it is stuck open... It is not reaching proper running temps. 1st question, is 195F the stock thermostat 2nd question, would the 160F thermostat cause the engine to think it is not warm enough and cause it to always add extra fuel thus murdering my fuel economy?

where did you acquire that fuse box? -
There was a little ice on the road on the way to my moms house. a nice stretch about 50 feet or so. I did get to experience the brakes locking up just barely taping them. but now all the ice is gone and hopefully will stay away. I know several roads in Mobile where closed down as well as a few interstate exits. As for my pipes, I had a faucet dripping last night. it did not completely freeze just enough to not have any useable hot water. It is working properly now that things have warmed up a bit.
-
I loaded up some firewood in the back of the jeep. The only driving I plan to do today it from my house to my parents or grand parents housed all are less than a mile away. My hot water pipes seem to have frozen again so I am headed to moms house to get a warm shower.

Today is the first time I have ever had to scrape ice off my windows and deal with a frozen door handle. Normally it does not sleet, snow, or anything like that down here. I have no experience when it comes to driving in sleet, snow, or potentially frozen roads, nor do I plan to. But if you here to give tips what would they be? My Charger is staying parked till it I know for a fact there won't be any ice out on the roads, it currently has summer performance tires, and is already easy to cause wheel spin. The MJ is what I have chosen to drive should I need to. However the 4wd is not hooked up due to miss matched gears. I am sure the rear auto locker will cause issues if there are ice patches on the road. However my defrost does work very well on the MJ, it seems to be the only thing that is working well.

Blue88Comanche replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
:agree: but if you if you want new check out the gear driven limited slips. they don't require any special additives, and last a good bit longer. but will require the gears to be set up. Total cost parts and install: $550-$850. here are some reviews: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f249/eaton-truetrac-771848/ -
Ozzie Locker? Anyone Tested?
Blue88Comanche replied to GHayduke's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have an Aussie locker in my rear D44. I like it, but if you let off the clutch to fast it causes the back end to buck a little... I don't recall it doing it as bad when I was running in full time 4WD. next week the new front gears are going in. I can then look for a difference in handling between 2wd and full time 4wd. It was very easy to install. -

I will come out ahead with 35 spline axle shafts too. don't forget you can get 'thick' gears for the 3.73 and down. I have thick fears in my d44 -

i never read their terms and conditions, but would imagine it says somewhere they have the right to cancel any order that was improperly priced. but then again if they ship it out the door before they realize what happened... -
