He checked the gears, bearings, races, and pattern. They all looked good according to him. this weekend i hopefully will have time to run a gear pattern and install the new lube locker gasket. by the time I had called he already finished putting everything back together. -

I called today, he said everything looked ok. he said to being it back on a couple weeks to check on things. Tomorrow morning I am going to pick up the truck on my way into work. I am still going to get some gear marking paint and check the setup when my D30 lube locker comes in... I hate the DIY gasket stuff. -

So how hard is it to remove gear marker paint? I looked at the ring gear several times and could not find a trace of it. I also have pictures and a hd video of the ring gear that I will post when I get them off my cameras. -
Post Re-Gear Question
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The first time i took it back it had about 45 miles (15 miles with front drive shaft attached, in full time 4wd, and under 45 mph) currently i am at about 90 on the odometer. I plan to take it back to them tomorrow, if i get it back again and it is still whining, that will be my next action. today if i still have daylight i will pull the front cover and get some pics of the ring gear with my Nikon. -

USA Standard Gear -
So has anyone heard from Sir Sam lately?
-
I have been having issues with the installation of my front gears. Apparently some pinion shims where left out causing the pinion gear to slide in and out. So i took it back and had that fixed. But the past few days i have noticed the front end seems to be whining or a high pitch grinding sound (sorta like the sound my rear had before it exploded). Is this sound something that will go away during break in or does it need to be taken back again? I hear it when i am at a steady speed above 40 and when i am accelerating. I also use full time 4wd everywhere. I can't remember if i heard this sound in 2wd. Edit: asking about; High Pinion Non-Cad Dana 30, Eaton E-Locker with new 4.11 gears

Lock Right Vs Spartan Vs Aussie Vs Lokka
Blue88Comanche replied to benjy_26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have an Aussie locker, and love it. It drives well on the street (about 95% street driving). I don't have any experience with the other lunchbox lockers. I also run full time 4wd all the time, and I think it helps tame the auto locker. -
To Much Play On Pinion?
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
that may be something i get into later on when i have some extra cash. i think the front axle has a whine when under load, is that something that will go away as the gears are broken in? -

When I change the diff fluid at 150 miles I will check for damage and try to get a good pic of the wear pattern for reference. I am starting to think I could have done a better job and I never set up gears before... What tools are 100% required for a gear install, I know a press will be needed for the bearings. I have an extra axle I can practice on if I wanted. -

My new Tuner came in the other day. I was finally able to correct the speedometer! I also used the CAI 91 Octane tune. That tune seems to be everyone's favorite tune, even over the 93 octane tune. -

I can't directly give any advise, but check out the manuals I have. Click the link in my signature and brows through till you get to the 88 FSM (or something like that) its a folder with a bunch of PDF files. there are one or two that deal with differential gears. Hope that helps Edit: the folder is called 1988 Jeep FSM -

Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
not sure about that... but it goes in and out when i rotate it making me think its missing shims. i don't think tightening the yoke bolt would fix that would it? -
I recently had a d30 elocker installed and I am starting to think the installer sucks. first the brakes did not work, now I noticed there is about 1/8 inch or slightly less on and out movement of the pinion gear shaft. I discovered this while replacing the front drive shaft u-joint trying to stop vibes once I hit 40mph. My other d30 does not have any movement in a similar way. so come Monday i am going back to that off road shop again..

I bought my grille guard from 4wheelparts.com Edit: and here is a link to the grille guard and my review at the bottom http://www.4wheelparts.com/Bumpers-Tire-Carriers-Winch-Mounts/Grille-Guard.aspx?t_c=64&t_s=268&t_pt=3774&t_pn=WAR60766 Edit: if you go with the warn grille guard like mine search whatever site you choose for these part numbers. 1984-1996 WAGONEER, CHEROKEE, COMANCHE (DOWN SIZE) Trans4mer Grille Guard, Black 60766 Angled Light Bar, Black 73745 Brush Guards, Black (Non-Wrap Around) 39563 Receiver, Black only (use with Trans4mer only) 29397 Winch Carrier, 29394 (the winch carrier will mount any standard mounting winch) SST Stainless Steel Carrier Cover (for 29394 carrier) 63130 Edit: (note: I did not pay $675 for just the grille guard center it must have been on sale when i bought it.) And don't forget about 4wd.com if you join the club program (check the vendors section of classifieds) then you can get up to 10% and I think a portion of the purchase goes to the club.
