  1. Should not need to. Unless you convert to Spring over axle, but that is another can of worms.
  2. Be much cheaper to find a junk yard axle with the proper gears and move the spring perches
  3. If the car is not running the radio will shut off, thus bricking a $1200 radio
  4. Installing the nav update for the RER Mygig radio in my Charger. Unfortunately the car needs to be running for this hour long ordeal. At this point having the 5.7 Hemi sucks... I think so far I have idled away an 1/8 of a tank. Most likely more when its all said and done. I can't wait to compare the 2008 maps vs the 2014 maps.
  5. 1. spline count does not matter unless you are changing carriers to use stronger larger aftermarket shafts. as long as the Front and Rear gears match it does not matter if the front axke is 27 spline and the rear is 30 spline. 2. the different spline counts where usually the construction of certain axles. the only stock axle for XJ that changed was the Chrylser 8.25 when it was upgraded from 27 to 29. 3. any rear XJ axle will fit under your MJ with modification.
  6. if you are changing carriers or shafts yes, the splines must match. the splines are located on the ends of the axle shafts they are ridges. they are what "grips" the carrier. Stock spline counts Front: Dana 30 = 27 Spline Rear: Dana 35 = 27 Spline Dana 44 = 30 spline 96 & older 8.25 = 27 Spline 97 & newer 8.25 = 29 spline
  7. If you are looking to get a limited slip, a true-track is what I would get. it has lots of good reviews for street use and mild off roading. The only reason I did not get the true-track is because I wanted lockers more... If Detroit / Eaton make a selectable locker that used the true-track system instead of open when unlocked I would buy that the second I could afford it.....
  8. This PDF should help some: General Cooling System Servise It covers draining, cleaning, flushing, and refilling the cooling system. It also covers testing the thermostat.
  9. A few questions, Was the engine running? If it was running, did you rev the engine to help the alt output? What is the CA rating for your battery? (mine is 800-900 CA, smittybilt recommends at least 800 CA) How old is the battery? I was able to make several pulls without any issue with my stock electrical setup.
  10. In 41, drilling a small hole in the thermostat will allow some air to pass through. On one of my more resent threads it was mentioned. There are some that have a little valve that does the same thing, but I could not get one from my parts store with that feature. So I went the small hole route. You will still need to bleed the air out of the system however.
  11. that is a very good looking MJ! its so clean
  12. How is it I have over 400 pictures of my Jeep taken over the past 5 years and I don't have a good "complete" picture of the engine compartment? Steve's Off Road called, the truck that is on the rack is giving them problems and has delayed my install again. They should be able to start on my MJ on Monday, they where going to give me a price break due to the delays. Can't wait to get the truck back. Dad should be getting home from the ship soon. We are planning a trip to the P&P when he gets back. I also want to install the WJ UCAs and replace the D30 UCA's bushings. In the near future I need to buy a new track bar. I have been looking at the Iron Rock Double Shear adjustable track bar for a while.
  13. and that is your 88 MJ? What all did you move around / modify? I see you fot rid of the renix pressure bottle and put in the HO coolant tank.. Did you move the relays? It just looks very different from my jeep (going off what i can remember)
  14. My vote is AX-15 when you go to swap in the 4.0
  15. Awesome, thanks guys! There was one member who said it didn't work so I was wanting to make sure the problem was not on my end.
  16. I want to make sure that my PDF links are working properly. they work for me on several PCs. 1st try THIS PDF it should be a 1988 Cherokee Trouble shooting guide 2nd on my signature please click the large picture of my jeep above the "Download Jeep Manuals Here" line - It should take you to my skydrive account and should be able to browse files, view PDFs, and download files. 3rd on my signiature please click the "Download Jeep Manuals Here" - It should do the same as above, giving access to my Skydrive account. Thanks! please reply if it works or not
  17. Read over this PDF it is a trouble shooting guide in the 88 Service manual. the second section (starting on page 3) deals with the Ignition system. I would do as stated above, Check CPS and Grounds
  18. Do you have cruse control? that should be the control servo for the cruse control.
  19. From Trouble Shooting in 88 Service manual
  20. yes, the ball is a "storage tank" for vacuum.
  21. read over these: AC Heater system Manual AC Heater System Uniform Inspection If you need more manuals click the link in my signature and browse through the files.
  22. if the blower motor resistor goes out usually you are stuck with one or 2 speeds. It may need to be replaced. the selector switch for the vents is vacuum operated, there may be a vacuum leak somewhere, the selector may have gone bad, or the vacuum motors may have stopped working. In my Comanche when i have low vacuum it defaults to the defrost vents.
  23. it was also available on the dana 35. to check if you have one without removing the diff cover, jack the rear of the truck so both tires are off the ground. you may need to put the truck in neutral... spin one tire clockwise, if the other tire spins counter clock wise it is an open diff, if they spin the same direction it a limited slip, (or locked, spooled) if it is the original LSD odds are it needs to be rebuilt.
  24. I took the MJ to Steve's off road today. He said I should have it back in 2 - 4 days. I can't wait to get the truck back. The Feb 1st I installed a new thermostat, the engine seems to be getting to about the proper temperature now. Hopefully the fuel economy will improve slightly.
