When I bought the truck the light was always on, even when it was in 2wd. Recently I disassembled the tilt steering column to tighten it up. When I got everything back together, everything worked perfectly except now I have NO "part time 4wd" light, not even when It's in 4wd. The only thing I did, that I can think might have affected the indicator was to unplug the large electrical connector at the base of the steering column. Everything else is working fine and I'm not even sure that plug has any relationship to the 4wd light. I searched on how the vacuum system works but this seems like it may be an electrical problem related to the work I did to the column. Any ideas? Thanks

Definitely have a rear main leak. Guess It's time to replace it. :wrench: Thanks

88 LWB, 4.0l with a manual tranny. The first 15-20 minutes everything is nice and smooth, after warm up, the clutch jumps and shakes the truck when taking off in 1st gear. The clutch was supposedly replaced right before I bought the truck about 3,000 miles ago. The suggestions I've heard so far are oil from the rear seal getting on the clutch, worn pressure plate or fly wheel needs resurfacing. What do you guys think? It's pretty damn embarrassing going through drive thru's.

Good call, I'll try it.

To summarize: I didn't search hard enough, If my Jeep is a rusted POS I might be able to crawl in through the floor, Don't try a slim Jim because I'm probably too dumb to make it work, the vent window or any glass in the vehicle is expendable, cloths hangers are my friend and I should of had a hide-a-key under the truck. :clapping: Thanks for the tips everyone, I'll probably try the cloths hanger, them the vent window and ultimately I'll probably wind up paying a lock smith. :shake:

Thanks Rob and no vent window or rear slider. Guess I'll try the cloths hanger.

My steering column was so loose I thought it was going to fall apart so this weekend I bit the bullet and dove in. I got a loaner steering wheel removing kit from Oreilly's auto parts and went to work. It was a tedious job but actually not that difficult. The hardest part was figuring out where the 2 or 3 parts that fell out during disassembly, went when reassembling. I didn't have the little GM tool to remove the pivot pins so I made a slide hammer out of a 8-32 machine screw welded to a piece of 3/8" steel dowel with a nut welded at the other end. I used a heavy socket for the slide hammer. Not really any new tech but thought I link a couple of articles that were very helpful. http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/2009/jeep-steering/ http://www.epiccomputer.com/dale/jeepju ... /tilt.html

Locked my door key in my truck, any non destructive tips for getting in? I'd like to get in without paying $75 to a lock smith.

For a d35, 7.56" is what I've found. D44 is 8.75".

Change your diff fluid.

These are beef and a great deal considering they come with bungs and jamb nuts. $125 plus around $30 for tubing and you have control arms. Dan is a great guy to deal with too! Currie, Johnny joints are a good choice too and are rebuildable, price is pretty good too but you'll need to buy the bungs and jamb nuts. Brad @ Barnes 4wd is good to deal with and can hook you up on the JJ's. I would stay away from Ballistic Fab joints, they have seemingly improved there joint design but the customer service is very sketchy (personal experience and experience of several people I know).

I'm a few miles outside of Raleigh/Durham :wavey: . Inspections aren't too bad but it depends a lot on the shop you go to and the county your vehicle is registered in. Some counties test emissions and some don't. (Wake and Durham CO do). Find an out of the way, small time shop and you can usually make out OK. Check This out. Good luck with the move.

Don't know if you've messed with injectors before or not but Vaseline is your friend when re-installing the injectors after the new o-rings.

Henderson here, a little north of Raleigh. Work in Chatham county quite a bit and have been through Asheboro tons of times on the way to Uwharrie. :waving:

That depends, is it a long bed or short?

id like to see a few snap shots. also ive read somewhere there is 4 or 5 jeep rental places down there goin stock to like 33 and locked f/r from 150-250 a day. At least 4 Jeep rental places in Moab. On our last trip a buddy rented a slightly modified Ruby JK for around $175 a day. He had a blast with it. Not a bad way to go if you don't want to tow your rig cross country. A few pics of our last trip

:rotfl2: We need a relay here. How many CC members are in a line from NC to Co? :jump: I'll be headed your way in spring of 2012, don't think I can hang on to it for that long though. :ack:

$15-$20 per shaft maybe. I'd try to find a friend with a press, it's a pretty easy job. Seems like I remember someone telling me they did it with a piece of tubing and a BFH. Heat the bearing and retainer a bit, cool the shaft a bit and it will go together fairly smoothly.

BTW, the above referenced book is very useful. Study it before leaving and Youtube the obstacles your interested in trying. You can get good idea of the difficulty and study different lines. A programmable GPS is very useful as well, the trail coordinates are all listed in the Appendix.

2 words......Moab Diner! Can't beat it. Like stated before, your equipment sounds fine. I've been on my TJ on 35's, TJ on 42's and drove a stock Ruby JK for a day. The rock has so much grip that generally, if you don't hang up, you can go over it. Just about any obstacle you don't feel comfortable on will have a bypass. And I agree, some of the most spectacular scenery anywhere in the world. Take lots of pics. Also, unless you like huge crowds, stay away during Easter Safari week. We usually go mid April and the weather is great and crowds are non existent. Be prepared for any kind of weather, that time of year you're likely to encounter everything from temps in the 80's to snow, hail and freezing temps. Have fun!
