Good to know. Since I can't find the tool anyway, I'll proceed without it. Thanks for the input.
-
Just stick the cover on and tighten it down uh?
-
Is the Mopar J22248 alignment tool necessary when reinstalling the cover. The FSM says it's needed to center the crank shaft seal opening on the crank shaft. Whose done it without the tool and how'd you get the cover centered up?

I agree, wish I could have found it before it hit the JY.

Part Number Application Source?
foreman1063 replied to flint54's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Rock Auto. Highlight the part number on the part you're interested in and a box will open showing an application/year guide -
Sticker is on the driver's side of the rear window. Either the window was transferred or the truck's been re-painted...? '88 is the correct year, I'm guessing re-paint. Now that you mention it, the paint on the inside of the bed did kind of look like at of repaint. The rest of the paint though looks factory, even on the inside of the doors and under trim etc. Maybe the rear window is a transplant. :dunno: Yeah, it's in good shape except for an antenna hole in the bumper cover. Can those be purchased new? If so, maybe I'll go back and get it. In your shoes I would grab it anyway, I have not seen one with metal that straight in a long time. Talked me into it. :fs2:

can't really find prices on the price list for interior plastic but I'll stop by and ask what it would cost.

It did but it was drooping, had a thin piece of wood holding it up. What pieces in particular? I'll let you know what it would cost if you tell me what pieces.

1988, Comanche, Pioneer, LWB, 2WD Drive Train: 4.0L/BA10/Dana 35/253,000 miles Build date: 1988 Location: Durham NC Condition: VGC but in the scrap yard Notes:Blk/Burgundy interior, vinyl bench seat, Olympic Edition sticker on rear glass Current owner: LKQ

Makes me sick to see this in the scrap yard. This thing is in great shape and written on the windshield is "runs and drives". Why it's in the bone yard is beyond me. The body is great with no rust, with shinny paint and equally nice interior. Oh well, here's the info: 1988 Comanche Olympic package(I think), LWB, 4.0l, 2wd, 5 speed, burgundy interior.

88 engine may be on the wayot

Oil level is fine and I don't remember the brand filter. -
Went to Lowes today and on the way the engine started making noise. A loud clattering anytime the RPM's got over 1500. Also, when I looked down the oil pressure was at 0. I was a couple of blocks from Lowes when I noticed the oil pressure so I babied it and shut it down as soon as I rolled in the parking lot. I started it back up a couple of minutes later and the OP went back up to 50 psi only to start drooping again the longer it ran. The motor sounds pretty noisy now any time I start it and the OP fluctuates. Is it on it's last leg or possibly something less sever, like oil pump, etc? The truck has 235k miles on it btw. Guess it's time to start :wrench:

Rubicon wheels on a Comanche?
foreman1063 replied to GM-Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had Ruby wheels on on my 88 until recently, had no fitment issues. How rusted are the unit bearings? -
Have some one turn the steering wheel back and forth while you watch the front end. If the truck body moves side to side before the wheels start to turn then you have play in the track bar.

Looks like the cross member was ripped off, that can't be good.

Got it home, just waiting for title to come back from NCDOT.

Could be the radiator, could be the water pump, could be air in the system. Hard to say, can you describe the symptoms?

Thanks, like most guys on here it just makes me sad to see one of these old beauties end up in the crusher. One day when we're old and sitting in a rocking chair, we'll be telling our grand kids about these really cool old Jeep pick-ups that used to be around. Then we'll probably break out the pics and smile. At that point, the kids will probably get distracted and run off and play :D . Oh well, I enjoy the old trucks  .
