Bringing this home Sunday, anyone need a good Comanche?
-
Kind of off subject but if your in the market for drive train parts check out these guys. Best service in the business and good prices too.

Oh yeah, they've been screwing people for years.

You find a new truck yet?
-
Bought it today just need to make arrangements to pick it up. It's an 89 long bed, 4.0l, AW4 auto 4x4. Not sure about the rear axle but I suspect it's a 35 judging by the rear springs, I'll find out for sure though. Once I get my hands on it I'll post a price but I'm not looking to make a killing, just get the parts that I need and pass it on to someone who will put it on the road. I'll also add it to the registry when I get the pertinent info.
-
I'm getting it but you can get it also after I get the stuff I need. Like I said, it will be complete after I get the parts I need except the bed, ps door and ps fender will be a darker shade of blue. ;) . I really don't want this nice of a truck to go to the crusher but I'll only be able to keep it around a few weeks after I get it. BTW, it has blue interior that, according to the PO, is in pretty good condition. This is the bed, door and fender that will come with the truck This is the header panel and hood that will come with it

@#$% cash for clunkers....that is all. :headpop:

I hear ya, I hope I can hook up with someone in the vicinity to grab this, I really don't want to see another nice Manche in the scrap yard.

I'm thinking of buying this for the bed, ps door and fender. Any interest in the rest of this rust free truck? I would put my current bed, door and fender on it, which are rust free with a few minor dents. Looks like the drive train is good except the damage to the engine harness and misc under hood stuff. Would make a nice truck if someone has some Xj parts to swap into it. I could also throw in a good hood and header panel if someone needs it. I'd like to keep this one out of the salvage yard if possible, so I guess I could part it if no interest in the complete truck. PM me if your interested and we can talk $$$ Will come with clear title "A quick back story: The Jeep was a 1 owner until a few years ago when my stepdad acquired it as a DD. The truck was in great shape for its age and everything worked. I had cautioned him about the leaking valve cover gasket, and it eventually coated the manifold with enough oil to catch fire. A small engine fire started when he pulled in the driveway after work. The fire dept is only a mile down the road so it was extinguished quickly. They did cut the hood open and the fire melted part of the paint on the DS fender. These are the only sources of rust in the truck and its surface rust from sitting outside. Not sure what may be usable under the hood, b/c its pretty melted. The engine itself may be able to be rebuilt. The AW4 should still be ok as the fire never got past the firewall. This would make a great project for someone who had an XJ and wanted to do the swap. As for parts, basically everything is usable on the body other than the hood, header panel, and possibly the DS fender (though it could be fixed w/ a little sanding)"

To what tranny?
-
If it's a 2.8 I think that's gonna be an 86 as well. Your best bet would be to find a donor Cherokee, manual, 4.0l, 4x4 and do a complete swap. You'll get everything you want at one shot: Tranny, motor, axles, harness, computer, transfer case etc. Probably could find one pretty cheap on CL if you keep your eyes open.

This addiction to Comanche's is like a disease. I bought my first MJ last year and another a few months later. I'm mighty tempted to buy my buddies little 4 banger every time he mentions selling it. I constantly check Craigslist for MJ's for sale although if I come home with another Jeep the wife would disown me. I love my Comanche's, problems and all. Not sure why but I'm sure it has something to do with driving a vehicle that very few people drive and that are becoming more rare everyday. I don't see myself ever getting cured of this disease. :dunno:

Vacuum line question
foreman1063 replied to foreman1063's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Went back and looked at pic, that line does go to the pressure regulator, not the valve cover. Thanks -
Can't wait for the ending.

Replaced the shredded serpentine belt, and the water pump. Can't believe the water pump was still pumping, the pulley flange and impeller were about to fall off. Also, only two bolts were holding the WP pulley on, and they were about to fall out. Glad I caught it before all hell broke loose. The biggest pain in the butt was getting the cooling system burped, took a while but all's well now.

What is the 3 way vacuum fitting in the picture, the one screwed into the intake. The small line coming out of the top goes to the valve cover, what are the other two ports for? When I block the top port with my finger the motor dies. Also, looks like all the EGR lines are capped off, any negative implications to not have that system functioning? Thanks

Steering column movement
foreman1063 replied to ole yeller comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You have to pull the column apart and tighten the four E8 (reverse torx) bolts deep in the column. I did mine a few months ago, wasn't that bad just had to be patient and take my time. Need to buy or make a special tool to pull the two pivot pins. I made a make shift slide hammer with a piece of all thread and a 8-32 bolt IIRC. I used a couple of write ups that were very useful, they had good pictures as well. http://www.bc4x4.com/tech/2009/jeep-steering/ http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/088020.html http://www.epiccomputer.com/dale/jeepju ... /tilt.html That'll get you started. Good luck -
Yeah, I was hoping that since most people don't them that I could find a set pretty easily. No luck yet though.

Anybody?

has anyone used a Hand Throttle?
foreman1063 replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have one mounted on the stick on my TJ. It's great for rock crawlin when you need one foot on the clutch, one on the brake and one on the gas. Have also used it as a make shift cruise control a couple of times too  -
Found a set at the local JY, thanks to everyone that replied.

Is this a factory topper? Introducing Project Chicken Man!
foreman1063 replied to Comanche County's topic in The Pub
Do you mind telling what you paid? -
Why did he have a $100 price in the ad and then asked $1500 when you showed up?
-
Are you using a press or hammer? You shouldn't be able to "pull them through". It's a very tight fit when sized correctly.

Lost "part time 4wd" indicator
foreman1063 replied to foreman1063's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks, I'll check these things out. I just thought it was odd the light stopped working after I disassembled the steering column.
