  1. At first........I thought the grill was on up side down :hmm: But it's not. Easy fix, front clips are the same from an XJ donor :D And time to up grade to Chrome.
  2. Plus.......The fuel pump, exhaust pipes, dash gauges, radiator, radiator support......just a couple of odds and ends. OH, and maybe different drive shafts depending on the tranny combo.
  3. You mean like a buzzing sound??? If that's the case, check your air box for a plugged filter, and the air tubes, a buzzing sound leads to it trying to suck air into the intake.
  4. If you knock the starter, and it cranked over, don't even mess with the CPS, and just replace the starter, it's shot, and locking up, as someone else wrote, it's "heat warped" and like you said, it's the original starter........(19 years old, caked up) even though it passed the bench test, that don't check for when the starter is overheated and locked up.
  5. No way!!! Last month I made a 780 mile trip in one day to get that box from "rust free NYC" And it's going be used here, Thank you :D
  6. Here's a How-to on the D44 bearing replacement - http://www.stu-offroad.com/axle/d44/d44-1.htm And both Advance and Rockauto carry the bearings and seals.
  7. :fs1: SW2......I'm going to send you 10 pounds of road salt so you can start experiencing what the rest of us have to deal with :D
  8. Now why would I want to do that :hmm: You'll have to talk to my nephew about that.......he already knows that he'll get stuck, ah, re, Inherent my collection :D I like your dad's MJ.......lots of chrome
  9. No, the AX-4 will not bolt up to the 4.0, different bell housings, plus it will not hold up to the high torque of the 4.0, plus you'll really want to have that 5th gear with the 4.0, and 4.10 gears, if that's what your '86 MJ has. Just about everything is interchangeable between the '86 MJ and your '87 XJ donor. You'll need to strip the '86 right down, engine, wire harnesses, radiator support. you'll end up with an empty engine bay ;) And every component from your donor will be transplanted into the engine bay. The interior dash wire harness, and all sensors, controllers and ECU will need to be replaced. This can be done easy with just swapping out the entire dash, or changing out just the wire harness from the donor. The nice thing about this change over, is that just about everything is plug and play :brows: The only issue you will have is the difference in the rear feed harness from the XJ to the MJ, IE: tail lights, brake lites, and this the only place you will need to splice the wires. Oh, one thing I forgot, the hood latch is different from the '86 to the '87, from the center latch to the corner latches, easy fix is to swap over the entire hood.
  10. Are you driving thru the "Black hole"???? Could be a problem with your voltage regulator. When you punch it, your pulling extra electrical power out of the battery, and it's shutting everything down......how old or what condition is your battery in??? Could be as simple as the battery cables being old and corroded too.
  11. I'll match SW2's offer to up grade the soft ware on this site to put this form into the 21st century :D Plus (not knowing swat about soft ware) it just might make your job easier :dunno: I thought this Was your job :hmm: :teehee:
  12. Hey :fs1: JT, your forgetting........... I was the poster child for the Comanche Addicts  Nice truck...... Even a Greater write up on it  Not to mention the Great asking price on it........what a steal.......
  13. If your flasher quit working, you can replace the flasher units, that plug into the fuse box, and it's better to replace them with the Heavy Duty flasher units. Also as noted, check your fuse box really carefully, specialty if you have a manual. There is a plug connector in the rear, left side, just inside the rear apron that can also cause problems, pull it apart, clean it with some contact cleaner, and fill it with dielectric grease. At worst, your sockets are bad, and you really need to check each one, both front and rear. As far as the rats nest under the dash.........well.......don't ya just love what the PO have done  As far as pulling the steering column apart, start with the simple things first, and leave that as a last resort, the wiring from the multi function switch to the fuse box seldom go bad. Yes, the switch can go bad, but about having all the under dash wiring in a mess, could cause some of you problems too.
  14. Yes, I know your in the 'great white north' but even Napa should have or can order you the "bulk" brake line, like in a 25 foot roll, and yes, you need 3/16" brake line for the MJ. The hollow nuts are 3/8" x 3/16", Shorts. I think it's easier to just buy the bulk line, and the fittings and make my own. But.......you need to use a Double Flair at the fitting ends, and it must be the Double Flair. Don't ever use compression fittings, and just a flair. I've seen the double flair kits from $15-50+, so you need to weight the cost on how much your going to do, now and in the future. The only fitting you really need to re-use are the 2 fittings at the master cylinder, these are a hard to find fitting, and weather you by-pass the rear equalizer or not, will depend on how you deal with the lines. I'm not a real fan of the "pre-made" brake lines, and all the additional fitting you need to deal with, and can't tell you how many times I've ripped them out of vehicles :shake: here's some reads for ya - viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6492&hilit=double+flair viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4282&hilit=double+flair Also.......the time to replace the rear soft line, from the frame to axle is when you do the hard lines, and if you get into replacing the axle lines, replace the wheel cylinders too, the time to mess with all the old rusted fittings is not worth the cost of the parts.
  15. :agree: With all the above, I've notice that the newbies post up in the classified with 1-2 post count, and don't follow the "New" rules, like location, and like JT said, list it, don't follow up with answers to questions, and then no one know what's going on. I'll agree that sometimes a newbie will post some of the hard to find parts, but then who want to pay $300 for a tailgate, that has rust on it.....or, 'only one problem......the handle is broken off' Who know :dunno: The same newbie might come back in 6 months with something else, but not too often. I think what JT is getting at, and it's been done here many times, .......... Some one (or a dealer) jumps on here, lists a '88 rare one of a kind, getting hard to find, 2wd MJ for $9,995.99 and then don't follow up with there add, and like, whom on this board will pay 10K for a '88........... :rotfl2: If something is set up, and like the post count is say, under 50, they need approval from a Mod to enter a listing on the classified, like, have it "approved" before its posted. If that's too hard, then the Mod in charge of the classified should delete the post right form the start, and sent a list of the rules to the poster. It will save all us "regulars" from wasting our time reading all this one time posting, and spend more time :wrench: I've come to the point, if someone has less than X posts, I wouldn't answer there questions, cause they don't respond for a few days, or weeks :hmm: And the same on classified, if there looking for something, I'll respond after the post count is up some. Plus the day job keeps me busy, and time is limited on here :(
  16. I bookmarked this years ago, should be a step by step operation- and answer most of your questions. http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/te ... dSeals.htm
  17. Man.....this comes up like every spring :hmm: There was some testing done back in the late 60's at Calspan (sorce) for the auto industry, and it was proven that the tail gate UP created the vortex for wind draft. Try your own test, place a plastic shopping bag in the bed, with the tail gate up, and drive around, see how long the bag stays in the box. Then try the bag (or another one) with the tail gate down, and see how long the bag stays there. I know, it's almost like the myth busters test. My vote goes for ............Tail gate up :D Plus.......every time I'm on the highway, and some one passes me with the tailgate down..... :shake:
  18. Which thread? I can't find a link Well, it was there. Here's the link: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6977&hilit=asd+relay Ah....er.....Don...... 'Senior moment'???? :teehee:
  19. Yes, XJ's 4 doors are the same, well from '84 - '96 model years. And pictures are alway welcomed :D
  20. Yea.......But, that don't look like a 4 bay garage :hmm: And is the floor thick enough to support the 2 post lift??? And with the floor already poured, did you plan on the drain grade down the center? I take it the hard air lines will be dropped out of the ceiling. :rotfl2:
  21. Like I said, a few of us have parts, what your looking for, if the dealer even can get the harness, you could buy another XJ for parts less. You just need to ask around for what parts your looking for, and some one will jump in :D You didn't really need to put your location up, but it does help with what your asking, It's like, hey, your right around the corner......and I got......Ya know :D We're all here to help you find the parts and keep that MJ running and on the road
  22. I totally agree to fix what you have.........parts are very available for the MJ's, and XJ's of the same era make great donors :D 3 years ago, I picked up a '89 for 500, and ended up spending another 1500 and some time to go thru it bumper to bumper...........I'll jump it it and take it anywhere now, last month I did a 780 trip in one day with it, and never had a problem. The Mj's are 20 years old, they need a lot of TLC, and once that's done, just a little routine maintenance here and there, and still a strong running beast :D I have no idea where your located, but just ask on here, and I'm sure someone near you have parts that you might need, as you seen in the replies. Keep another MJ on the road
  23. I can do that this weekend.......I got a "new" 6 foot bed flipped over and waiting for install.....some day  I know when I talked to the guy that put the Ranger step side bed on his MJ, he told me the 2 rear mid bolts lined up in the same spot on the X frame section, had to fab up brackets for the other bolts. This one
  24. I've got the pictures loaded up here (now) :D
  25. If you stick your head in the tank, this is what you'll find :D
