Comanche Aftermarket Bench Seats?
MJRemi replied to SGTJHALL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't think there are any but members have swapped in seats from other similar sized trucks. The floor brackets are the tricky part since the have to conform to the floor pan. -
I want to transfer my A- condition grey cloth bench seat onto the bracket/slider assembly of my B- condition burgundy vinyl bench seat. It appears the entire seat frame is riveted onto the assembly. The P.O. of the grey seat welded the slider to the rear-most position which is too far for me and limits access behind the seat. Does anyone know how to detach the seat from the frame or sliders?

I would love to find out more details regarding the ThunderChief. Since I will be fully restoring the Street Comanche, beginning next summer, I have given serious thought to modeling it after the T.C. instead of sticking to the original Street design. I will keep it 2wd but would beef it up to look like a close relative of T.C.. Info, details, and opinions are welcomed.

Not really tech but need help...accident!
MJRemi replied to Disturbed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You said you were hit by a work van. Have your insurance company do the leg work to find out if it is owned by a company and being driven by an employee or representative of the company. There's a better chance of receiving total repair value with a corporate insurance company. Get 3 estimates of complete repair from reputable repair shops and use those to show what it will take to "make you whole". You are not obligated to go along with the insurance companies value of your truck. If you must, you can file a small claims lawsuit without an attorney and can include your filing fees as well. It could cost the other side much more in attorney fees and court costs than it would to pay you off. Whichever way you decide, good luck! -
Mine has a spring. I noticed my clutch pedal was about 3/4 inch higher toward the seat than the brake pedal and discovered the spring was hanging from the pedal rod. It also had about 3/4 of play. I didn't know where it attached on the other end so I just looked around and found a nook on a nearby bracket that would keep tension on the spring. Now it sits even with the brake pedal and has no play.

I'm very sorry to hear about the pup. I love dogs and had a pair of beagle brothers several years ago. I got them at 8 weeks old and they were great dogs.

I had to get Red October smog inspected in order to register. She passed with flying colors. Went to AAA and registered and then drove up to meet Jake/Gogetemturbo to buy his MJ leaf springs for future installation on Red. Earlier this morning I removed both bucket seats and gave the carpet a thorough vacuuming. It baffles me how people can let their interiors collect debris and clutter for years.

Thanks everyone! And I did email the Street Comanche guy with update and pictures but I have not heard back from him.

You can try to adapt some standard products but it might be easier and cheaper to find a parts 97-01 XJ. I hear their weatherstripping is beefier than the older style.

TeamCherokee.com or 4dr junkyard XJs.

It looks like some of the rubber is missing but also the window looks too far toward the interior. Make sure the roll-up window is centered into the wing window track and not off to one side. I always start with the window all the way down and position the top of the glass into the wing track. Roll up the window slowly and feel the glass edge to ensure it remains in the track. With the window all the way up in proper position, tighten up the lower bolt and two top screws. Hope that helps.

Great photos! My father was born and raised in Cobleskill and a Great Aunt lived in Sharon Springs. Upstate NY is beautiful but I am not too keen on the big cities.

Congratulations!! Welcome to CC and stating it's your "first" is probably a good sign you know there may be additional Comanches in your future. -

Well, to the dismay of the wife,( :fs1:  ) I bought #59 today. I put two matching rear wheels on to test drive due to a damaged driver side wheel from the PO's accident. The truck ran great except for loose steering and the gauges don't work, except for the speedo. It has 214K and needs a few things to be "nice" again. If I keep it, any resto will have to wait until I retire, which will most likely be next summer. The #59 placard is mounted but my camera batteries died. I'll add that pic at a later date. I know it's tough to let them go. In a few weeks, I'll be selling my black 88 but I'm in no hurry. Tomorrow I'm going to make an offer on the red Street Comanche but only to save it from the junkyard. If I do get it, it will have to sit under a tarp until I can afford to restore it.

As soon as I save up a few pennies, I will send my MJ for the upgrades. http://autos.yahoo.com/news/first-drive ... ersio.html

Repainting the Interior Trim
MJRemi replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've used Krylon Interior/Exterior Satin for plastic with good results. I only sprayed hard plastic, not vinyl or rubber. Home improvement centers and craft stores carry it. -
If your shifter knob is threaded on, then you should have a locking nut at the base of the knob. Turn the nut clockwise to loosen from the knob. Once it clears the base of the knob, turn the knob counter-clockwise to unscrew. When re-installing, turn nut counter-clockwise to tighten against the base of the knob. Don't over tighten or you can crack the base of the knob.

OK, I know what you mean. I had trouble finding one so i made one out of rubber from an old basketball and cut the retaining ring out of aluminum sheathing. It works just fine but I have since seen a few in some part-out XJs. If you decide to make one, try to get some remnant pond liner or an old inner tube. Both are made of tough, pliable rubber.
