  2. I did this obstacle right after my buddy in his higher lifted/bigger tired XJ: More pics in a wheeling thread or two on here. i wheel the KJ regularly with two XJ's: it goes everywhere that the 4.5"/32x11.5 XJ pictured above goes despite having 31" tires and a smaller 2.5" lift. I cannot hope to keep up with my other buddies 6" Long Arm lift with locked 4.10's front and rear. It is a low-budget beast. I have posted dozens of times over the net that the XJ is the best bang for wheeling. But if you think that weren't designed for soccor mom's and that the vast majority of original owners didn't use them as station wagons, you may not have been paying attention when they were new. I would buy a DD Xj for a DD/toy and almost did a month or so ago. The only XJ I owned was a 2-door and hauling kids in it was not optimal, so i flipped it. There is huge aftermarket support for them, and they are fairly cheap (as are MJ's) which lead to more modifications being affordable. But if you want to compare cherokees, the XJ was a huge step down from the original, and the '02-'07 cherokee (as it is called everywhere but N. America) is much closer to an XJ than the '84 XJ was to the SJ. The XJ is a great vehicle considering it was designed 30 years ago. But just as the TJ is far more capable, and reliable, than the beloved CJ ( i have owned several CJ's), the KJ has numerous solid steps forward over the XJ, especially in the areas that sells new jeeps. Remember that jeep could not care less what people do with a 20 year old jeep they bought for $1,000 because they do not make a dime from them.
  3. That is closer to a new suspension system than a typical "lift. Look at it this way: you can go all out for $1,200 or get ripped off for $600 by Rough Country and a crappy product that won't make you nearly as capable.
  4. meh. don't let the door hit you on the way out....
  5. 1. But in a case of full disclosure, I owned an Xj very briefly and flipped it for a profit. I assume that I can use the MJ, which is stiffer and stronger than an XJ by reports here, as a measure, too.
  6. They are a ton more solid then an XJ. People knock the 3.7, but never say why? I makes more HP than a 4.0 and better than or equal torque, even off idle. Many are approaching 200K without issue. Like many modern engines, ignoring oil changes will cost you. I think people forget that the KJ is about 1,000 pounds heavier than an XJ, but still gets better fuel mileage. I drive very aggressively and get 18 city/24 highway even lifted and with heavy e-rated mud terrains on steel rims. But mine is a stick. The structure is several times stiffer than an XJ, too. Off-road they will go anywhere a similarly equipped XJ will go. I wheel with XJ's and this has been proven time and again by many KJ's. I have posts on here with pics and have vids. They are more limited mod-wise and a 32" tire is about the max. The seats wear quickly and the material shows stains. The window switches are on the center console. CRD fans love them, but I would avoid them. They were a two-year experimint on an engine (italian made 2.8L inline 4) that was not legal in the US past 2006. They are not the CRD mercedes sourced V6 diesel form the Grand line. Although fans make the mods and then down-play them, they require several mods to be dependable. Go to a KJ site and see how many list the mods in sig lines and read the repair issue posts. They had serious and recurring tranny issues. Only 12,000 were sold and parts will probably be an issue eventually. they use a different front half-shaft and are limited on lift for for this reason. I would buy mine again if I had it to do over.
  7. I've found out one thing in life very early. There's the truth: And then there's the truth: Know what question people always ask me? "Why are you selling it?" The answer of "Because I bought it wrecked, spent as little money as possible to repair it, and plan to resell it for as much as I possibly can," doesn't seem to go over very well. I disclose the major work that has been done, but downplay the severity of the work. A couple of years ago I had a jeep that had been real lightly touched on the front, barely tweaked a fender, barely cracked the header panel up, one woman who came to look at it "it worries me that its been wrecked." There's just no reasoning with those people, if your honest it bites you in the @$$, it's understandable how car dealers get a reputable for being lying scumbags. In all of our lives we choose how much personal integrity that we display. If someone is comfortable at the level discussed above, well, that is their decision. I find it depressing that the personal integrity bar is set so low in so many business people.
  8. Weren't all, or nearly all, MJ auto's column shifted, at least in the renix era? Every floor shift I have seen persoanlly was an XJ-sourced mod.
  9. '80-'91 Jeep Grand Wagoneer/ Narrow track FSJ Cherokee has a driver's drop D44 front that has the matching 6x5.5 lug pattern. Redrilling is an option, but I am unaware of an adapter from 5x4.5 to 6x5.5, at least not a quality one.
  10. That is beautiful. Twice as valuable as this one viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26984 or that $16K pack of lies that shows up regularly
  11. No, not real estate... I assume that every 4th C.C. poster is either in the witness protection program or deeply ashamed of where they live. They won't even post a state of residence, let alone a location. Then they come on A) wanting parts B) whinning about no parts near them C) A&B. Just something I noticed. :peek:
  12. If you wanted the 4.30 you would have to upgrade the front as there are no 4.27/4.30 gears for the hp d30, IIRC.
  13. If you'd list a location in your info someone close to you with a bed may post up about it.
  14. You should find new people.. :D
  15. I have had several older D44's apart and none have had inner seals.
  16. jeep was a german vehicle when it was owned by DaimlerChrysler, but Fiat does not own Chrysler.
  17. Actually, most modern 1/2 ton trucks outperform the one-ton's from a couple of decades ago in most capacities, especially towing. And a modern 1-ton puts the old ones to shame. My first tow vehicle, and '81 C30 crew cab with a 350/auto, would barely move and squatted like crazy towing 7,500 #'s. It had a 145 HP, less than a 4.0 and less than half what a new V8 makes. A new dodge Power Wagon may be the most versatile and capable mass-produced civilian pick-up ever. Our memories of the "good old days" often gloss over the bad stuff.
  18. There would be a market for a smaller truck. All of the once-mini offerings are midsize or better now and too close to the fullsize. IIRC that's way the Ranger got axed and the Dakota will follow suit, at least as a body on frame 7/8's sized truck, IMHO. The TaTa from India is getting buzz even though "made in india" means P.O.S.
  19. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/11/24/jeep ... 2%7C186184 Not a huge Consumer Reports fan, but the 4runner is "not recommended."
  20. I like the look of rustoleum satin finish in chassis parts.
  21. <---- jealous. Nice!
  22. A burglary or "breaking and entering" is a property crime in which someone forces entry into a dwelling (burglary) or seperately secured structure ( B&E) to commit a theft. The occupants are not home or confronted. A robbery is a personal crime in which a victim is threatened with bodily harm or harmed while being forced to surrender property in their direct control. A "home invasion" -a media created term- is when an armed intruder(s) force entry into a home and directly confront the occupants to forcce them to surrender items. ALMOST all of these occur when the offenders know that there is something of extreme value, generally drugs or drug profits, present and they are after a specific target, not your TV and petty cash. Rarely do innocent victims suffer such an attack as the return is not worth the risk for what most people keep around the house. Some occur due to poor information on the part of the offenders and they do not find what they are after. Again, ALMOST indicates that while some "innocent victims" do in fact suffer such attacks, most are specifically targeted. Such facts are generally not reported via the media as, unless the facts can be proven, the police do not tell the media their suspicions as to why the victims were targeted. You indicate that your friends were innocent victims of a home invasion but also talk about them being victims of a breaking and entering, two very different actions. Do you know what happend, or are they creations that you think further your argument? The fact that you took my "ALMOST" to mean "all" means you did not read my post, could not comphrehend my post, or chose to ignore what I actually posted to further your vendetta. I say vendetta because, since the thread cited, you have made comments in other threads about me and you never did before. Google "almost" and "all." Then figure out what actually happened to your "friends." Maybe some enlightenment will be bestowed upon you. If I was a liberal or democrat or whatever insult you implied, I might jump on the chance to point out the stereotype of the uninformed or inbred gun rights nut. Such generalizations are incorrect and should not be used by anyone of any intellect, though.
  23. I new track bar won't fix the mounting hole problem mentioned above. This is not an uncommon problem, and it would explain your continued DW.
  24. Another possibility viewtopic.php?f=2&t=26861&p=272278#p272278
  25. Grounding issues cause many problems in older vehicles. It is the first thing I checked for bizare electrical issues.
