It may stop the vacuum issue but the brake pedal would still be rock hard. The only cure is a swap to a manual m/c set-up or replacing what you have now,IIRC. Is there any evidence of a fluid leak? Maybe leaking back into the booster(which would have eaten the diaphragm)? The lack of a booster would make the pedal hard, but the pedal slowly going to the floor is usually the fluid bypassing the piston in my limited experience.

This is why I lock my door even when I'm home...
Incommando replied to Philistine's topic in The Pub
that is a very poor, inconsiderate, and ill informed statement. innocent people get robbed all the time. I would guess that you're a Democrat. Wow. Still mad about Rough Country? You have no, zip, nada information about me or my history. Post up your qualifications to refute my statement, and I'll post mine to make it. On second thought, put me on ignore because I will certainly be ignoring you. This board is remarkably free of that kind of comment. I had hoped it would remain so. You e-stalking me because people pointed out you contradicted yourself in one of my posts is sad and tells me the real issue. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26609 -

Almost all home invasion type robberies are crooks robbing crooks. -

Rough Country is a documented crappy company & their springs put the "rough" in rough country. I really regret buying their lift. I would look at motion off road or something -

Awesome on the next project... :rotf: -
Excellent idea. I wonder what a cross-post to Pirate about this theif would do? The wording makes me believe it is off-shore or at least an immigrant.

That is probably a scam if it is really your pics. Fake for sale ads to get paypal deposits or to rob potential buyers when they show up are increasing.

Headlights dim when I tap brakes ?????
Incommando replied to littlezeeker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A common thing that leads to electrical bugs in these is grounding issues.Tracing and cleaning the ground contacts usually helps. I assume it is not a charging system issue as you do not mention it happening when other draws are made on the system, just the brake lights. -

"take it easy?" Seriously, not so much as a head slap smiley from me, Dude. I was being serious. It is not appreciated and I wish you well on your endeavor as I am done with both tech help and the English help you need. -
1988 dodge ram 360CI v8 (5.9L magnum)
Incommando replied to comanche12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Strike 2. The '88 was the early "commando" line and used a different block and heads from the later "magnum" line of small blocks. The parts do not easily interchange. As stated above, the 5.9 Magnum was first used in 1993 in the new '94 Rams. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/318.html the easiest V8 swap for an MJ is a small block chevy as the mounts/radiator/exhaust are available aftermarket. The 4.0 shares the AMC bolt pattern of the AMC 360 but not motor mounts, etc.... I am not sure what, even any, MJ trannies can be adapted to the AMC 360 due to strength, balance, and other issues. The AMC 360 was last used in the '91 Grand Wagoneer. Later 5.2 & 5.9 jeep engines were actually small block chryslers. A complete drivetrain swap from a V8 Grand Cherokee would probably be the easiest Chrysler V8 swap. -
not sure what lift kits to use any help?

Several companies have horrible reps and a little more research would have prevented me from using Rough Country. Serious quality control, customer sevice, and product problems. -

Front lockers under power on dry pavement would probably lead to no turning radius and possibly transfer case chain wind-up. Handling would be adversly effected, IMHO. -

The 5.9/360 was not a hemi and was a member of descendant of the 273/318/340 "LA" family of engines commonly known as "small block mopars." The problem is that the Dodges of that era were pass. side drop transfer cases: they did not go to driver's drop until 1994. In 1994 the "LA" enginnes moved from the "commando" line to the upgraded "magnum" line. The modern hemi shares nothing with the various 360's or the previous two generations of hemi's. It is 5.7L/345 CID, not 5.9L/360 CID. Before it gets asked...the AMC 360 shared nothing with the Mopar 360 and the engines will not bolt to the same transmissions. -

I have an aussie in my KJ now, and I have previously had a lock-rite. I have many friends with no slips. I like my aussie, but the no-slip is much smoother and seems to be the cadilac of drop-ins. My rear D44 is trac-loc. i will eventually add a drop-in to the front and only upgrade the rear when it wears out. -

What he said. All of the drop in/"lunchbox" lockers (aussie/lockrite/powertrax no slip/spartan,etc...) install in the original case in place of the open diff's spider gears. This means that you do not have to set the gears back up if you are keeping the original gears/ratio. Detriot Lockers/ARB's/etc... are whole new cases and are probably stornger then the stock case. They require you to swap the gears onto the new carrier and to set them back up. Many times changing gear ratios drastically requires a case change. If you have to replace the case and set up the gears anyway, the savings for a drop-in is not as great. If your 8.8 has a factory limited slip (traclok-sometimes called posi) then you will probably have to go with a new case anyway. Off the top of my head the only drop-in for a LSD is a no-slip for a D44??? -

Haspin 11 20 10. 9:00 am A bunch of nutty KJ'ers ( and a couple of XJ's) are doing Haspin this Saturday. Pretty informal: meet up and 'wheel. We are meeting by the entrance. We are usually on Ch 14. The MJ does not have tow points yet, or I would slap my KJ's MT's on it and it would be going instead.

That poll is neat. What a great idea.

Is it just that I notice them because I own one, or are '88 MJ's very well represented on this board?

Track bar will also make a pop. Check for play at the top mount with the weight off of the front axle.

A renix had 177 hp, and your engine is now beyond the life expectancy of the avaerage engine. Your effective gear ratio is now probably a pathetic 2.80:1 or so. Put shorter tires on it, re-gear, or down shift that badboy. :D But first you need to do a complete tune-up so that you are starting with as good a baseline as possible.
-
stock tire size? Gearing? Miles on the truck? How long since a good tune-up? Renix or HO? No, by modern standards the 4.0 is not a powerhouse. But it is no slouch, either, thanks to the light weight of the MJ/XJ.
