  1. Wiggle the wire around while you're testing it. It could be that holding it in one position will keep it appearing to be in good shape when there is some issue with it when it's bouncing around in a moving vehicle. And do all of the other testing for crossed wires, shorts to ground, shorts to voltage etc suggested above.
  2. Man, I was going to ask him how he kept things from sliding off.
  3. A broken wire would keep the cruise from engaging.
  4. That would work too.
  5. A case from a 99 won't have the vacuum actuator to run the disconnect system.
  6. Double check the spline count of the two cases. The electrical plug for the shift indicator is different. Also if you have the disconnect axle you will need to convert to a one piece axle.

    In demand

When I drive my J10 around, I get people asking me if I want to sell it. I put it up for sale and put a price on it and everyone vanishes.
  8. It's a crazy setup but it works.
  9. That may be a cable for a full size Jeep. There are 4 total cables involved in the FSJ parking brake system. One each from the axle to the frame, one like that to tie them together, and one from the pedal that pulls on the bare cable.
  10. FYI, this thread is 11 years old with the last post being 6 years ago.
  11. Good advice. I have a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek as my daily. No temptation to mod it like I did with my XJ daily driver. I just get in the subie and drive. No problems, no worries, no headaches. When my Jeeps are down, I still have transportation.
  12. It's an opportunity to upgrade. You can buy aftermarket shafts with bigger u-joints. Stronger shafts with stronger joints are always a good upgrade. But they're a few hundred bucks for the set. Swapping out to later XJ/TJ shafts is a cheaper option but you still want to swap u-joints while they're out. Maybe have a shop do it for you.
  13. That's a little smaller than I would feel comfortable with. Maybe something like 1.5 square tubing or thicker wall. Or both. Or maybe putting in more tubes. Like 6" on center vs 12" on center.
  14. My JK lets me pull the end of the stalk out when I have the parking lights on only. I don't have to turn on the low beams. When I turn the lights off, the stalk pulls the end back in.

    Tesla's new truck

I'm sure it's a towing beast. For about 50 miles.
  16. Yeah, I have steel toe boots I wear when I'm working in the garage.
  17. There may have been an episode where "someone I know" was trying to take the door off his wrangler and it was stuck. When it let go, that individual may or may not have lost his grip on the door and dropped it on his toes while wearing sandals. It may have broken two of the toes and required about 8 stitches. But I'm not admitting anything.
  18. I'm looking at doing something very similar with mine. I agree that .120 wall would be a lot better than .25. That has to be a heavy mother of a rack.
  19. I bought the pair of MJs for chump change, knowing that they both had rear end damage. I was already planning on doing the aftermarket bumper anyway. May as well get the good parts to someone who can use them.
  20. I might could come up with one. I have a factory bumper that's not in great shape and it will be replaced with something else like a JCR that has its own brackets. But I can't get to it to take it apart until this coming weekend. The bracket looks like it's still straight. The bumper took a hit on the passenger side though.

    Tinted Windows

That's pretty standard in every state. Something like 35% tint or so on the front side windows. Nothing below the AS1 line on the front windshield. Back windows can be as dark as you want.
  22. The 4.0 has port fuel injection and the 2.5 in that year would have throttle body injection. The biggest difference is where the injectors sit. In the 4.0, there is one fuel injector for each cylinder, stuck into each intake manifold runner right before it enters the head. In the 2.5 you have only one injector (or maybe two) sitting on top of the throttle body instead. It's like they took a carburetor, cut out the fuel bowl and venturies and attached a fuel injector or two on top of the throttle plate. Both systems are computer controlled and have things like oxygen senors, pressure or airflow sensors (depending on how the computer is set up), throttle position sensors, idle air control valves, etc. The parts may not interchange, of course, with each having a unique part to accomplish the same task.
  23. Yeah, lots of "while we're in there" work is being done. The injectors are being tested since this is the 200K mile maintenance. Lots of other stuff too.
