    Jeep

Not the best photoshop job I've ever seen.
  2. The cooling deficiency due to airflow predates the VB1 recall. They've been talking about the cooling issues since the beginning as far as the diesel in the JL/JT goes.
  3. It's not a recall issue. It's an airflow issue. They even redesigned the JL nose to flow more air and it's still not enough to handle the heat of a turbo diesel.
  4. Saw one today. I was coming down Santa Fe into Castle Rock. It was lifted with some kind of cage in the back. It was a light color but I can't say exactly what. I was in my XJ at the time.

Congrats on how smooth it's gone so far. Hopefully the rest goes without any more hiccups. I'm about to go talk to the lender to get pre-approved. Then the hunt starts in earnest.

    Photo Hosting

x2 on having your own website. It's really not that expensive and you are the one who controls the content.
  7. Better get some new brakes. With Pringles, "One you pop, you can't stop."

I'll look there. But someone at work brought up a good point. We could be moved back to Waterton. So I'm going to try to split the difference between the two places. Basically north of Highlands Ranch is my target. But if something great pops up outside there I can be flexible.

Can you send me your inspector's contact info? I'm going to need a good one. Oh, and congrats.
  10. You might be right. They have gone through several iterations over the years. Some use a tone ring in the diff, some use wheel sensors. But it's rare to see a sensor in the tcase any more.

    Buying a house!

So... they just had a big all-hands meeting. The upshot is that it's likely my office will be moving to the south end of the DTC. That changes the equation just a little...
  12. I have Stinkyfab brackets for my project, both for the long arms and for the track bar. They are serious beef. I'm going to make my own links for my swap to wontons since I may push the axle forward while dealing with brackets not in the stock location.
  13. I think the WJ had the 42RE, which is different than the 42RLE. Regardless, pretty much all Chrysler transmissions in that time period were "less than stellar". I've known several people who had transmissions going out only hundreds of miles after the warranty expired at like 70K miles or so.

    Buying a house!

When I got the letter with a picture showing that my grass was 1/4" longer than was allowed, I knew it was time to leave. I'm not going to pay people who have nothing better to do than to nitpick stupid rules. Sure, you run the risk of having "that neighbor" if you don't have your HOA to keep them in check but honestly I'd rather have those neighbors than live in Stepford hell. I work down at the south end of Wadsworth so I'm looking basically south of 285 and west of I-25. I've seen a number of houses go by that were decent candidates in nice neighborhoods. I'm going to start my serious search this weekend. We'll see what I can find.
  15. It should be the same. In the TJ they went from the 32RE to the 42RLE through into the 07-11 JK before switching to the WA580 behind the Pentastar in 12. There may be some updates from year to year, and the bellhousing beteen the TJ and JK will be different but it's the same basic trans once they went to a 4 speed.

    Buying a house!

I lived in a neighborhood with an HOA once. Never again. They're hit and miss. But any good HOA can get taken over by control freaks. I am specifically avoiding HOA neighborhoods because I don't trust them. And while Highlands Ranch is close to work, they are pretty bad there for what I want to do. So I'll go somewhere else and not bother them and they won't bother me.
  17. Half the time the computer is smarter than the monkey behind the counter.
  18. The computers aren't compatible. You'd have to bring the whole engine/trans over and hook up ABS sensors on all 4 corners. The KJ doesn't have a traditional speed sensor in the tcase. It uses ABS to run the speedometer and figure out when to shift the transmission.
  19. Yeah, the 42RLE has a "less than favorable" reputation. It's not the longest lasting transmission. There's a few shops that do some upgrades but it's still a 42RLE. Check out ATS diesel. They have branched into Jeep transmissions. It's expensive but better than stock.
  20. I can't say for sure but it seems like there are a lot of Ba10 specific things. A driveshaft may be one of those things. Driveshafts are easy to shorten. It may be cheap to just take the shaft to a shop and have them do that for you and balance it again. That is, if there's a shop anywhere near you that can do it.
  21. 23* isn't bad if you're used to the cold. But I imagine being in GA it rarely gets even close to that so you're not used to it. Wearing layers and keeping a couple of those chemical hand warmers in your pockets and shoes makes a huge difference. Best of luck getting what you need.
  22. I'd rather have a good caster angle. A Jeep doesn't drive very well if the caster angle is way off. On a stock height Jeep, the good caster and pinion should be together. As you lift more, the pinion angle will be further off. You can split the difference up to a point. But as you get really tall, everything gets out of line. You could rotate the Cs if you can cut and weld. Or you can compensate with a double ended double cardan driveshaft. That would be my preferred direction.
  23. I will get a tow rig for my Comanche once it's on 40s. But the Gladiator isn't enough truck to tow the load I will be towing over the mountain passes. I like to have a 20% or more margin on tow rating over the towed weight, just for safety. And while the top tow rating for the Gladiator is impressive for what it is, it's not enough. Same story with every other compact pickup. The new 1/2 ton pickups are all getting to some pretty significant numbers and may be enough. And with their diesel engines all cranking out 440+ pound feet, they may even work well over the passes with the turbo keeping the power levels up at altitude. The integrated brake controllers would make the run down the slope better, along with the big brakes they all seem to have. If you option them right, you can keep the cost under $50K retail, with probably a mid 40's out-the-door price. Of course, the heavy duty diesel trucks all have way more capacity than I need. But they would tow a couple of Comanches on a trailer with a full size camper in the bed and hardly break a sweat. But they get expensive quick. And a lot of the electronics on diesels from the last 15 years seems to be not 100% reliable. And like the early MJ, they switched around the whole engine management system before finally finding one that was good. So parts are expensive and sometimes unique to a model year (or less).
