  1. Really, a CJ 2 or 3 would be a decent run-around-town vehicle.
  2. On the subject of VWs, I'd love to have a Porsche 914 just to run around town in.
  3. That doesn't look quite right...
  4. When I had my electric fan in the J10 I ran an 80A relay with 10GA wire. The controller would trigger the relay that would turn on power to the fans. For the power wire I put in a fuse that was sized to the load the fan would put on the system. The fans ran brilliantly. The problem ended up being an over-bored 401 V8 that ran way hotter than the cooling system could handle but the fans were great.
  5. I've seen him do enough videos with some pretty janky redneck stuff and bad decisions to be a little skeptical of anything he posts. But I think in this case he's on the right track and has some pretty solid facts behind him.

    Jeep vs Bronco

I do have to say that I don't hate the new Bronco. I think the Sport is a little small but the regular Bronco 4 door would be a good daily driver/moderate wheeling rig. The IFS would sure ride nice on the road but it looks tough enough to do some mid level trails without too much drama. The turbo engines would be nice here in the mountains. While the 3.5 ecoboost would be great, the 2.7 is no slouch. That's probably the one I'd pick. I could replace both the Crosstrek and the XJ with just one vehicle. I would have one MJ as a built wheeler (when it's done) along with another that I could keep 2WD and make a little more "fun".

Where did you get those? I need a set.
  9. I agree that it's an impressive body of work. It does belong in a museum. Totally respect the effort that went into it. It's just not what I'd do with my MJs.
  10. Crossed a threshold yesterday. I got the garage organized well enough to put a vehicle in the "work stall". The XJ is on the other side. It's time to get the MJs out of storage and get them started.
  11. It's interesting to see that level of preservation and I totally respect what that takes. But for me the real joy is getting your vehicle out on the road and/or the trails and driving it. I'd much rather have a restomod 71 Chevelle with a well built modern drivetrain than a factory original SS with the LS6 454. I'd drool over the factory original at the car show but let someone else keep it like that.

    Jeep vs Bronco

They have the se problem with the turbo 4 banger from the Wrangler. The Jeep wasn't designed for enough air flow. Maybe when they do the next update they can figure it out.

Because almost no one buys manual transmissions any more. Even sports cars are going mostly paddle shift autos these days. I got a great deal on a 2012 JK because it was a manual transmission one that had been on the lot for months. Automatic transmissions are very good these days and most people like them.

    Planning a project

Yep. I've had several half-assed projects that didn't turn out well. This one will be different. In a way, knowing the cost of everything will give me a better idea of how long it will take to accumulate what I need. But it also lets me keep an eye out for deals and snatch them up. I already managed to get several parts at good discounts.

    Planning a project

I'm going to have a Dana 60/80 combo on 40s with long arm front and rear triangulated 4 link. I passed 20K already... The junkyard axles and all of the parts to rebuild and regear the two are pushing $9k alone.
  16. So yeah, I'm doing this next MJ build differently. I'm planning ahead. I know what I want.out of this build and what it will take to do it. So I started listing all of the parts I'm going to need to get it done. And that includes the prices for everything. All added up in a spreadsheet. Don't ever do it this way. You'll get discouraged before you even get started. It's going to take me a couple years to have this much cash together...
  17. On the one hand, it's important to keep an open mind and recognize quality fabrication work that may not be visually appealing to you personally. On the other hand...
  18. Nothing special but I picked up some roller wheels and tires. They're small enough I should be able to get it out of the garage when it's lifted. It won't fit out the door if it's on 40s...
  19. It's probably on Harbor Freight jack stands.
  20. I was trying to link the whole soundtrack playlist. It's always a favorite.
  21. We're on a mission from God.
  22. Basic fare today. Dogs, brats, and burgers. It's the first time I've run the grill in years. They turned out good.

    Winches

That would have come with a plate like mine. Otherwise there should be some numbers stamped on it somewhere that you can decode.

    Winches

Could also be an M6000 or XD9000 (not the XD9000i). I'm not sure of the best way to tell the difference without the plate next to the engagement lever. I've gone through a couple of 100ft cables on my ~18 year old XD9000. I'm on a synthetic one now. Pretty much any regular winch cable will work. The remotes are pretty much universal. The newer winches started using a newer controller with some smarts built in. But the older ones are just straight 4 pin and you can easily get a new one.
