89 Eliminator "The Rust Bucket"
500 MJ replied to Dechion's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yep, looks about normal for something to start with around these parts. Definitely fixable! -
 The cargo light wiring is already run in all of our trucks. We just need to get the switch for the light and the light itself. There is a pink wire that runs up along the drivers side B-Pillar to the roof of the cab, on that wire there is a connector for the cargo light. The light itself grounds through the steel body of the truck by using the same screws that hold the light on. To install the light you need to tap into the wires run for the switch by the steering column and install your own switch. The light can be installed in the cab (I bet you could get another light from some other truck in a yard to work too) by drilling a hold in the cab to let the pink wire through and then drilling the holes to attach the light to the cab. The factory light is not a brake light. It only is a cargo light.

I didn't get a shot to buy a MIG welder there, none for sale of the quality/ability that I like. I will keep my eyes open for them, I'm searching craigslist and whatnot quite regularly right now. I will make a post if I find one and am good to go for starting to make these. Please don't hold your breath though...I can't promise anything. Thanks for the offer, however I am looking for a MIG Welder, not an ARC Welder. If you want a hand in making the bumper, give me a shout after you get the materials and we can set something up, I'd be happy to help.

I've got a matching set, still on the carrier. Going to be coming through Grand Rapids in two weeks. How does $50 sound?
-
The renix systems in both of my MJ's were pretty drivable as I got them. The one sat for 3-4 years and the other for 1. General tune up should be all you need to do? What are you worried about specifically?

Those fuses are disintegrating because the clutch master cylinder is leaking on your fuse block under the dash. Go ahead and pull it out and re-wire the whole thing, bet is solves your turn signal issues. You'll need a 1/4" socket to separate the fuse block from the engine side of the firewall. #3 Phillips screwdriver also for the two large screws.

Making the 2.5 a nice DD again.

Only a few months of good weather left Correy! Get going! -
1989, Jeep Comanche, Base. Stock Configuration: 2.5L / AX-5 / D35 / SWB Notes: I've been picking parts from this one for awhile now. The truck has been repainted black with some spray paint and it is rusting through in a few places. Engine compartment still has the mostly complete 2.5L there. I took the tail-lights and the interior lights too. Still some parts left, most have come home with me by now though. Build date: Didn't look Mileage: Didn't look Current Location: Watkin's Auto Salvage - (608) 424-3581 W 2898 Pernot Ln, Belleville, WI 53508 Status: Wrecked / Parts Current owner: Watkin's Auto Salvage This page was last updated on 9-25-2010.

1989, Jeep Comanche, Pioneer. Stock Configuration: 4.0L / BA-10 / D44 / SWB Notes: I've been picking parts from this one for awhile now. I took the D44 from the truck, it turned out to be a trac-lok with 3.07 gears. The truck has been hit on the driver's side of the box, the rest of the truck is pretty rusted out. Engine compartment still has the mostly complete 4.0L there. I've taken the tailgate, the interior is gray. Had the full gauges in it, took those and the tail-lights too. Had a rear sliding window which I am about to be getting. Had good interior lights (both had both prongs) and rear license plate wiring harness, which all came home with me. Still some parts left, most have come home with me by now though. For all the people on here who don't already know, meet "goblazers_6", who we all have come to know as Darren. He likes attention. Don't give it to him. This forum exists for Jeep Comanche Pickups. Other forums and methods of group communication exist for the problem he is claiming to have, he can go there if he wants to help himself. This topic does not belong here. End of discussion.

So far its just me and Pat for Saturday then?
-
I knew the guy who built this rig... way back when. Used to be NICE!

I shipped the last ones to New England and Texas from Michigan. IIRC they ran about $60 each to ship... Shouldn't be a problem for me to ship them IF I start making them again. In a few months it'll be getting really cold out again and I'm sure the fiance won't let me weld in the kitchen... I don't have time to do them now, spring would be the earliest that I could see. Next weekend I'm going to a huge car show / swap meet. I'm going to be on the prowl for a welder while I am there.

Have fun Will, anything you need us to keep an eye out for?
-
A postal money order would be fine if you want to do that, you don't have to though. I'd be fine with a regular check or cash if you wanted to go that route too. I don't do paypal either... My address is: Brent Marsh 1986 Wendt Road Fitchburg, Wi 53575

JCR Offroad has now discontinued making their version of this bumper. I am looking into buying myself a welder. If anyone would be interested in me making them one of these, let me know. I can't quote any prices at the moment. Since I started this thread, I've moved to a different state. I will have to start from scratch for finding area steel suppliers and getting prices from them.

I could come up with a few things... I doubt Comanche parts would be a hot ticket item though?
-
So there you go Rob, you come here and do your thing, she goes there and does her thing... :brows: I was hoping to do some parts swapping and reimbursing you some $$$ for the stuff you got for me there. If you can't make it on Saturday then we need to come up with a good time sometime else to swap this stuff, next weekend is wide open for me...

I'm going to revive our dead Great Lakes Adventure Planning Forum and post this up. The Jefferson Swap meet is something that we have all met at in the past and hopefully will be able to do again this year. I'm planning on being there all day on Saturday. Bring LOTS of cash for the flea market! http://www.madisonclassics.com/car-show ... ferson.php

Kitch's '88 Build, with new pics!
500 MJ replied to 88MJXLS's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
There are lots of things that it could be. I chased my tail with a problem starting my '90 for about 9 months. Finally took it to a mechanic to find out my ignition control module was shot. Truck has been turn-key reliable since then. Keep me in mind when you swap. I'm interested in all of the renix sensors and harness stuff you don't want. -
the never ending story, just ended

Keeping you from getting a ticket is about all its good for. I was holding onto this cause I could see it getting used on a wheeling rig and no-one caring when it got smashed against a tree. Notice the mounting points all leave something left to be desired, however, the lense is intact. $20 shipped via USPS flat rate box.
