Comanche of the Month, Jan 2011 --- $500MJ's 1988
500 MJ replied to Automan2164's topic in Comanche of the Month (MJOTM)
DID THAT! Some of the older folk at the wedding didn't quite get it I don't think  Awesome. My entire history with this truck has had her in the picture as well. It's only fitting to use the only vehicle that has been in both of our lives for as long as we have known each other. I met her about 6 months before I bought the truck so she does have seniority over it, and she knows it. -
Sure act quickly in times like these don't we! :D

WANTED: JCR LWB ROCKSLIDERS AND REAR BUMPER, IL/WI BORDER.
500 MJ replied to Automan2164's topic in Wanted
JCR just got back with me, they had two sets of the brackets left and I bought both sets. They said that this was the last of it, so apparently they are all cleaned out now. I figure one set can go on the shelf and get drawn up and the other can be the start for another bumper for myself. I also ordered a set of D-Ring Tabs for future use. -
Your rock rail did exactly what you needed it to. Much easier to replace it than the rocker panel! Looks like you had a blast!

I've been waiting to go to this since last fall. I was getting really excited until I found out that it is the same weekend that my fiance is graduating from college (she's wrapping up her internship over here right now). We'll both be making the trip back to Michigan for the weekend so that she can walk. She's sure earned it, so I want to be there for her. I guess I'll plan on making it to the fall one. Have Fun.

WANTED: JCR LWB ROCKSLIDERS AND REAR BUMPER, IL/WI BORDER.
500 MJ replied to Automan2164's topic in Wanted
Rob, did you contact them recently for this? I might be the guy to buy that last set of bumper mounts so that I can have them for future's sake. JCR seems to do a good job at coming up with brackets that do the job and are easily reproduced. I can get their last set of these and then we'll have them for the future. I still need to draw those brackets up in CAD for my bumper thread. I'm betting that these would be much easier to draw up than the ones I have been using... -

I'm game. I'm also in the middle of wedding planning. After June things get to be wide open, might be able to spare a weekend before then though. -

Your call. This thing has sat here for the last two years, I doubt it is going anywhere until I finally pull the trigger and convert. -

Just go buy a good MIG welder and I will come down for a day and make another copy of "the Original" for you. I want to make a set of sliders for mine. Let me use your welder and I'll make us both a set of those too. I have all of the templates for the rear bumper here in Wisconsin. -

I tell you what. You need to keep looking. Find your MJ Model 20 and get it to your place. Once you do that, let me know. For the last two years I have been sitting on a 2wd AX-15 from a '91 MJ. I bought it from Geonovast while he was still living over in Marshall. I bought it so that I could convert my '90 MJ over from an Auto to a Manual. I've been collecting other parts for the conversion as well, but I can use them in other scenarios or I can still use them when I actually get around to converting the MJ a few years down the road. The thing is that the truck I want to convert is currently our second DD, my fiance is still learning how to drive manuals and she needs to use the truck on occasion. My '88 is a manual so whenever I get the urge I can just drive it. You do your part and track down the rear axle and then I'll do my part and sell you the trans for what I paid for it, $100 with the rear SWB driveshaft included. The trans is no cherry, it needs to be gone through, but it ran fine and I can verify that everything worked before we pulled it, I drove it. I'd be happy to have one less thing to stumble around when we move west of Madison this fall (we're looking at Cross Plains, Black Earth, Mazomanie area), and I'd be happy to see it go to good use. Fair 'nuff? Also, take that temper of yours and kick it out the back door. No one needs to be angry over something like this. -
"Middle of the Mitten" - Love it. Welcome!

You gotta be kidding me. You did all that leg work and now you're dropping it? Just like that, for the sole fact of not being able to find the magic axle? -

Comanche of the month, Mar 2011 --- ANOTHERJEFF's 1988

Excellent, Very well deserved. -
You're right. I should. But I don't.

Eagle, I have seen first hand what you described many times in Troops other than the one that I was brought up in. I know the disappointment that you speak of. I can tell you that there are plenty of Troops still out there that do hold the core values of Scouting true. I hope seeing one poor example does not hinder your thoughts of the program on the whole.

Keep it up!

I'd much rather buy one that is in great shape, low miles and stock for $2000 than buy something that has been done up by someone else for the big price. When you build it yourself, you know how it is done and what parts are used.

$500 MJ's header panel What year front end is this?
500 MJ replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What parts do you need? I've got lots of the grille parts, but I myself am still on the hunt for another good header panel. I hope to find one in these upcoming weekends on trips to local yards... I was going to give you a heads up on this, but figured you'd find it. Just didn't know it would take this long! How the heck did you find this? Rob L. I was doing a search on headlight upgrades (Headlights are pretty weak on the '90) and this came up in the search. :dunno: -
Like Rob said, you shouldn't have to grind off any welds to work on something like this, ESPECIALLY for the price you are looking at paying for it. Also, it looks like that front axle is still a disconnect version... as long as you are willing to mess around with that stuff I guess its OK...?

$500 MJ's header panel What year front end is this?
500 MJ replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wow, I never saw this until now. Yes, I did piece that one together. This setup is what I know as the "7 piece" front end as there are 7 parts to the setup including the grille. It seems to be found on all of the years that were prior to '91. I believe that the 10 slot grille was stock until '87, the 8 slots replaced them until '97. My '88 came with an 8 slot and I swapped it onto the truck. The stainless/chrome trim around everything was swapped on as well. -
Yah, I don't know what you should call an AMC MJ and a Chrysler MJ. I thought Chrysler were the ones responsible for putting the 4.0L in the XJs and MJs... If thats the case, the only AMC MJs are the '86 model year...? I find it very funny when I look at the different years of Renix intake manifolds that I have. Some are stamped with AMC logos, others have the Pentastar...
