Oh, and I’m doing CC as my club affiliation.
-
It is sooo much quieter with exhaust now. Other than that, no more progress.

The Project That Wasn’t Supposed To Be - Bolens H14XL
89 MJ replied to 89 MJ's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
It is running, driving, and mowing now. I still don’t have the slots mounted yet. The spark plug was pretty gross, I’m surprised it ran before cleaning it. -
For those interested, here is the registration form: https://kenoshahistorycenter.org/2022 Kenosha Homecoming Registration Form.pdf And a schedule: https://kenoshahistorycenter.org/2022 Kenosha Homecoming Event Schedule.pdf I will probably be there Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. I will also likely have shade near my Comanche and Eagle.

June 2022-The Silver Star (2.0) Owned by @acfortier, with some build credit to @kryptronic! Build Thread- Previous thread: Year/Model - 1991 Jeep Comanche Pioneer Drivetrain- 4.0L HO, AX-15, 4x4, D30/D35 3.07 gears. Planning on swapping in a D44 with 3.55 gears (already purchased) and re-gearing front to match. Cooling- Stock Electrical/Ignition- Stock, relocated ignition coil to firewall Suspension/Steering- Stock for now. Planning on replacing rear leafs with MT ones from General Spring, new shocks all around Interior- Full black interior, not fully installed. Need a carpet or vinyl floor, and a few more trim pieces installed. Brakes- Rear LSV deleted, replaced with YJ unit by kryptronic. Have a double booster from a XJ ready to install. Lighting- Stock halogens, installed some aftermarket YJ fog lights on the front bumper, wired them up. Rewired headlight harness with kit from eBay. Exterior- Still the original paint! Plans are to repaint with same color, eventually. Wheel & Tires- Turbines, refinished and powdercoated silver. Tires are 235/75R15 General Grabber ATX. Misc- Exhaust was completely refreshed by kryptronic Best MJ story- Had an 88 in high school, was one of my first vehicles. Always turned heads, was a great little truck. I stupidly sold it after doing a ton of work to it (young kid, dumb decision) and regretted it ever since. Still get lots of people asking about it, where I got it, plans for it. I'm sure I have a better story from my HS days, but I can't remember! CC is Awesome! Why? Great group of guys. I've been on plenty of forums where folks love to point the finger, be defensive, etc.--nothing like that here. Folks can ask a question and not be ridiculed

Geez! Yeah, that makes sense. If you change your mind or can get there, I will have shade near my Comanche.
-
Yes indeed. I didn’t think that we were going to be able to trailer the Eagle there (just because it is relatively untested) because our vehicles that tow are getting very, very rusty, but my parents are willing to give it a shot. I’ll also drive the MJ over. Are you planning on going?
-
Ok, I was able to get some time freed up to be able to work on the two rigs more, so I might get them there, but not how I’m wanting them.
-
Well, as much as I wanted it to happen, I have probably missed my only shot to make it out to this show. I haven’t made the progress on either of my projects to make me even want to try to get them to the show. The worst of it is, the hold ups are all out of my hands completely.
-
I didn’t know that. You definitely should be fine then.
-
Well, he is selling the parts rigs because they would make for a neat project. If anyone on here is interested and doesn’t have an FSJ network profile, feel free to send me a PM and we can try to work something out. https://www.fsjnetwork.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=22690

I would be careful having the printer paper that close to the bulb that will emit that much heat. I doubt it will be an issue, just something to keep in mind.

Nice job straightening out the bumper and the taillight. It’s looking good

About a month ago, I got a text from a friend who works at a scrapyard saying they were about to crush this Bolens and was told that I could buy it for $60. I couldn’t let that happen, and I wanted some parts for my G14XL, so I bought it and hauled it home in the bed of the Comanche (tractor weight is roughly 700 pounds). After looking into it some, I decided that this tractor was too nice to part out and found that it builds great compression. I decided to try to get it running. Tonight I was finally able to make that happen. There was a stop that was not letting the brake pedal reach the brake switch that would allow it to start. After straightening the rod and joining up the jump pack, it barked to life. I didn’t even put fresh gas in it or use staring fluid. I just need wheels and tires, and I might just put a set of aluminum slot mags on it.
-
Oops, I bought another Bolens. The MJ hauled it like a champ though. I could have used a trailer, but I didn’t have time to run home and pick it up before the Bolens was scheduled to be crushed.
-
It moves now! It goes in for exhaust tomorrow. It still isn’t shifting quite right though. And don’t these two look great together, in a POS 80s vehicles kind of way?

Wow, I owe this thread an update. A few months ago, I decided the trim tag. Here is what I came up with: 12B-2nd week of December 5867-convertible KC-Malibu SS, Kansas City, MO Trim 786-Medium Red Imitation Leather (Bucket Seat) 9361 Paint-Ermine white, white convertible top Accessory D-Power top (RPO C06) Accessory M-Powerglide transmission (RPO M35) Accessory S-Rear antenna (RPO U73) Accessory V-Seat belt equipment (RPO A37) (Discontinued 2/64) And because my boss is downsizing his parts collection because the business is moving, he gave (as in $0.00) us a rear seat cover (silver/blue in color that is nice, but used), a convertible top boot (same color as seat cover, also used), and a set of rust free inner fenders from AZ.
