Sure. Brass wire brush to the cluster connector if they are corroded. Also wouldn’t hurt to the give the engine a bath if there’s some resistance going on.

Cylinder hone. Best way to clean those up. Put some oil down those pistons just in case if it has a hard time moving.

Thanks Pete! That was the idea. I got fed up with having that cup holder in the center and not being comfortable with shifting while a drink was there and thus popped the idea* of doing that console. Plus more pockets to put little/dumb stuff in all the while keeping a factory look. *Thankfully no good full center consoles were harmed in the making of this console

Latch is held in my three T-50? screws. Then you have to unclip all the rods but you might want to get some more clips if yours are likely to crack and fail once you try to unclip them.

Take out the entire latch mechanism and see if its just seized for that portion of the latch system. My T-bird had the same issue except it was the door button where pushing the button would open the door but not re-latch due to that part of the mechanism being almost seized.

Whelp, it is complete and done to my liking..somewhat lol. I think its looks great and what a full bench console could've looked like for us. If I were to have one designed from scratch, it would fit the contours of the bench and have a mounting bracket somewhere around there with a not so deep cup. But I am not that great with plastic molding at all. All in all, it will serve its purpose well.

A CJ style fuel fill bezel? Or just the sticker?

Yeah I know the differences between the two, figured AMC wouldnt delete the rear grills though for the MJ. But in the catalog it doesnt list if the duct is XJ specific or not. Just lists it as general an no note off to the side noting the body style used in. I figured the rear duct is nice for heating and such so I left it, it will spew out hot air through the console duct to the middle of the bench seat. I also found the first flaw. Due to not having any sort of rear mounting, the console has its own flex, almost requiring either a more forward mount or rearward mount. Thus the issue of alignment, proper seating, and flex have come into mind now. After fiddling with it for about an hour and came to the conclusion that it needs are least one shim where the t-case shift bezel goes and about two for the main console to maintain somewhat stability for the cupholder. That being said it was still a tad bit on the loose side and come the day where I decide I want a big gulp where ever I am driving to, I don't want to take a turn and have the drink spill. So I stuffed some "insulation" between the duct and console and got better strength from the cupholder. Other than that, this thing is practical for someone who wants a more "full" look to their interior.

Thats what I have already known but I wasnt too sure if AMC just used the same molds for the console like the XJ but just had that special insert with the ebrake delete. But it also makes sense to run the duct to the back like an XJ but thats just me and how I see it would make sense. Guess I will go take out the duct.

Well I finished installing the thing. Looks great! Especially with the cupholder. Guess my biggest complaint on that is how close Chrysler made it to the dash but they werent expecting us to chug big 48oz drinks in 1992. Also broke my shift boot retainer, it was a Chrysler one and not a genuine AMC one...had to break out my NOS AMC retainer though. All in all, console is worth it with a few more cups to hold stuff and a side mounted cup holder to hold a big drink, I can just tell the passenger to hold their own cup lol. (I was replacing the lower dash bezel with a much better one at the time of this pic) Now I have a question for my bucket seat members. Have you taken your console out? If so does the MJ have a duct like the XJ or no? I am going to go surf the parts catalog and see if I can find anything on this. I know the XJ and MJ floors are different but I feel the duct is just in the way of the console sitting flush on the floor.

Also another part of Cruisers ground tips is the blower motor ground. Highly recommend doing that especially with AC loaded trucks. I never did it because I didnt have AC so a blower moving hot air at a faster speed didnt seem beneficial to me at the time until I had AC installed.

So my guess since you didnt take the dash out for the box, the recirc door probably doesnt seal all the way and thats why water leaked. With the engine off the recirc door closes and fresh air comes in through the top via here circled in red: Blower motor comes out from the engine bay by three screws. The drain for the air box is located behind the charcoal cannister.

When you say sprayed the air box, did you leave the box in the truck or did you take the box out? Theres a recirc door that is in front of the blower motor where water can leak out of if the drainage hole is plugged.

Thats the ground for the entire cluster, gauges and all. Look at Cruisers tips. He has a recommended gauge wire. I used some sort of I want to say a higher gauge high quality copper speaker wire my dad had laying around and used that for the ground extension.
