16 gallon vs 23 gallon
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I’d be willing to do a write up on all the specs and what not of the gas tanks and FSU’s. Would be an invaluable thread with hopes that all those questions could be answered with one topic. -

Thats the fathers garage special lol. That hammer has actually proven mighty useful for its stature. What happened was many years ago, my dad was using it and the head fell off and the wood split. So he cut it down and whittled it to fit the head. -

My bad, it is longer than the 18 gallon tank. I edit my post to reflect. -
16 gallon vs 23 gallon
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 16 gallon is definitely longer than the 18 gallon tank. But the 23 and 16 gallon are one in the same tank only with the fuel "baffle" being different to let less or more fuel in. Once the light returns tomorrow morn I will edit the main post with the pic of the 23 gallon. @Torq_Shep, not sure if you installed the tank yet but would you mind providing us the dimensions of this lovely tank I sold ya? -
16 gallon vs 23 gallon
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Actually I don't have a good pic of the internal to an 18. But I will say its the exact same, but it fills more direct rather than the fill tube on the 16/23 being curved toward the slosh pan. -
16 gallon vs 23 gallon
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Pretty much! Call it a fuel hack lol. Hang on a moment. I have pics of an 18 gallon. -
I often dream that Chrysler did the right thing and kept the first one, or at least AMC doing so with both the first XJ and MJ. I am willing to bet they are either A, in the Romney family or B, somewhere in Chryslers storage.
-
I would like to just do a PSA since I couldnt find the internal difference anywhere via pics or word so I took it into my own hands to figure it out and I am glad I did lol. 16: 23.5: don't worry, I plan to clean it out before use. BUT! Note the shorter vent pipe. And only reason why I did this as the tank I bought a while back from a member in CA didnt have the tank ID plate on it so I had to find out and verify. External differences 23/16 tank: Dims: (from lip to lip) 37"L 17 1/2"W ~15H 18 tank: Dims: ? 16 and 23 side by side

Sending unit identification
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
SOLVED!! 16 gallons have a short lever arm! Thats why the gauge can go past full! So 18 and 23 share the same sending unit according to the catalog which means I can now sell those three sending units! Look at that arm! Its like a babys arm compared to the ones I have. -
Just a bit younger than Chunk by a month. jdog found one a while back that was made in 83.

All the 84-86 external slave parts have been acquired including a NOS clutch kit which is awesome. Gonna swap out the flywheel too just because I broke a bolt off a while back when changing out the clutch a couple years ago. But it’s gonna be a great swap to do.

That’s hell of a find.
-
Actually that is right. No one took them. Chrysler offered the short block with no cam or lifters. At least that’s what the catalog tells me.
-
Where in the hell!? Did you find a NOS 4.0L short block?
-
Ooo they look good on there.

Crazy question...700r4 behind 91 2.5
eaglescout526 replied to Scalped's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the problem with doing that is possible torque converter issue and output spline shaft count and mounting. A Chrysler torque flight A900 series was behind the 2.5L from the factory for the AMC years. -
Lol he’s gonna make me broke the way I buy parts from him.

eaglescout526 replied to IronManche87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah it just came to me as I was walking to my MJ to go home. I think it is because I ordered some vintage AC parts from Vintage and one of the counter guys commented about my NOS serp belt which honestly doesnt bother me, I have a few as back ups, and he said vintage parts don't have a warranty and I think that stuck to me. Agreed. Same with a hobbyist and an enthusiast. -

eaglescout526 replied to IronManche87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Agreed and now that I think about it, I think it boils down to the warranty aspect of the parts life. If it’s the last one and it’s faulty, there’s not much you can do for the customer and that makes sense to me why they don’t go the extra mile for everyone. I did that once for a guy who brought his Aspen in the shop and everything was discontinued for the TBI but a dealer had the plug which no one, not even me, could find the plug for.
