No problem! Hopefully youll get it all straight. Funny you say this. The photos I took of the inside of those two gas tanks kept uploading upside down and I had no idea why. I did not edit them in any way and sent them straight to my onedrive from my phone and uploaded them to the post. I had to actually go and rotate them, save it and rotate them again to get them to upload correctly.

Lol yeah I have learned that there is such a thing as parts department lingo when you asked.
-
What I mean from that is he with his parts catalogs is able to see which VIN digit is the Metric Ton package. So when I say “pulling metric tons” I just mean he is showing and saying the digit that is the identifier for the package.
-
Hmmm. I smell a discrepancy.
-
I thought there was since Fiat has been pulling Metric Tons and I didn’t think the Metric Ton was its stand alone trim.
-
So for the horns, they are located behind the bumper, one or two can be had. One on each side of the Jeep. They are mounted up a ways behind the headlamps actually. There should be a signal Packard 56 connector floating around on both sides. The drivers side has two wires going into it and the passenger is one wire. That thing in the drivers did fender from left most to right is the EGR purge solenoid and the truck the fuel pump ballast. You can bypass that since all it does is “quiet” down the pump but that was more applicable to the XJs.
-
There’s a digit in the VIN that usually points that out and there’s a sales code for such too on the build sheets.

Woo another stock 2.5L owner. As for that tube, I can see if they are around as NOS but just about all 86-90 2.5L stuff is getting harder to come across because of everyone dumping the engine and scrapping it. I have never heard of that tube breaking though so that’s a new on by me. Just how broken is it though? Can it be welded if it’s just a crack?

My Pioneer had dummy cluster. I think they were that trim where you could be the “Pioneer” of your Jeep and have it as loaded as you wanted.

16 gallon vs 23 gallon
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
See I thought about that and I’m a skinny guy but my arm gets all the way to my forearm and I can barely touch the filler tube. You could get to that tube with those cutters probably with no problem I went and measured this the other day for a fellow. The 16 gallon float arm from float to first bend is ~2 3/4” of an inch. Mean while the 23 and 18 is 5 1/2” from float to first bend. -
Which is why he knows nothing about XJs and MJs.
-
Just search the part number I provided and there should be aftermarket options. Not sure why your dealer couldn’t give you an eta seeing how they’re all back east in the main warehouse. Those morons.

16 gallon vs 23 gallon
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well if you think about it they have different amounts they take but in reality it just depends on the float arm length. The catalog shows the 18 and 23 to be the same part number which I’ll have to get a pic of. Like the 16 has a shorter float arm which means it will get to “full” faster. But the longer arm for the FSU means the float will get to the top and read the same regardless of the tank it’s really in. Mine was upside down. I just spun the pic to show what it says. -
16 gallon vs 23 gallon
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Remember, its AMC. Why make two different tanks when all ya gotta do is add a longer vent tube to lessen the amount of gas that goes in. But that being said, youd have to let the tank sit for a while before you start modifying the vent tube. Just with sparks and fumes and all that. But yeah I think it is that easy especially since the 18 and 23 share the same sending unit. I really need to get all this info in one thread lol.
