  1. 11 years later, this post saved me a lot of time and frustration! Thanks for posting. I was able to replace the really, really bad driver's seat with a much improved seat I picked up recently. I used the info here to swap bottom cushions to make an even better seat overall. Thanks for the post and pictures, this helped a lot!
  2. Awesome, thanks Tex06! It looks like the way to go is to cut out the door jamb from an XJ and then pull the trigger on doing the 97+ upgrade at the same time. I got pointed in the direction of T&M Fabrication as well - they make 10ga plates to better support the entire door jamb and striker area. I think once repaired, that's a great way to ensure this never happens again! Thanks for the help, I'll start sourcing 97+ doors now, and find a donor XJ.

    Awesome, thanks guys!
  4. That will be nice...the ones I have are functional, but are cracked. I may be able to super glue them and hope for the best until Key Parts gets us all hooked up. Take my money already! LOL Here is a good set on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174742675934?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D89b6e79ac6fd44bf894d5085da4337c3%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D401387236182%26itm%3D174742675934%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DJeep&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A2d6388f4-a6a3-11eb-a3e5-827b768ab657|parentrq%3A0ec616d71790a44e23e7e8d3ffdaf2a0|iid%3A1
  5. Hi all, I've read a good number of posts on here about others having a similar problem to mine. The driver's door striker post is toast. A really bad weld job was done and it is failing, it's a matter of time until what little steel is still there gives out and I have a big hole left behind. Because I have to fix it right this time, I want to make sure this gets done right, and I'm probably going to need to rely on a body shop. Because the jamb is damaged and is missing steel (see hole on outward-facing side of the washer), it seems welding is the only way to get this done forever. What I had planned was to cut out the jamb on an XJ and then have it welded back together. That still may be what we need to do here, but does anyone think the stock 88 style striker post is a lost cause here? Since it looks like, no matter what, some metal is going to need to be added, would it be more advantageous to just go for the 97 door swap while we're at it, and update to the different style striker? I'm just not really sure what I'm going to get into once I start this, mostly because of the damage done by whatever knucklehead did this in the first place. Any ideas on the best way to repair this?

1988 Jeep Comanche Pioneer 4.0L engine, 5 speed manual, short wheel base, RWD, bucket seats Build date is unavailable, the sticker is completely bleached out Current Location: W Texas Status: On the road...somehow! I put some notes below. Synchro for reverse is suspected to be done-for, but it does reverse if you hold it there, and the lights and everything work well enough to be on the road. Wiring harnesses are chopped up bad and need to be replaced. Notes: This MJ was used as a farm truck for many years, so it has all the typical things you'd find on a farm truck...weird wiring, chopped up and spliced wiring and connections, switches that don't work, added switches to bypass the inoperable ones; rigged-up "fixes" to broken things, pretty much no money spent to fix anything right, just whatever kept it working. Interesting is that apart from a bad weld/repair on the door striker, there is ZERO RUST anywhere. Not the floors, not the shelf behind the rear wheels, nothing. The body is banged up a bit and the rear bumper is probably the worst of it, but it runs and drives without any showstopping issues.
