Ok so it’s starting to warm up in a bad way so I may or may not be able to move more forward as I’d like with the T-bird. But I went over today and I cranked it a little bit till the battery died. Took out the battery and let it charge for the moment I was there. Replaced the starter solenoid with the one I thought was shorted. It wasn’t I was just dumb and put the ground cable on it the first time and that’s what caused it to short like it did. Whoops! Part of me knew this at the time but not well enough. Anyways new one installed, cranked it and she fired right up which is fantastic!

I bet if you either bent that vent tube up or cut it back a little, you might yield another gallon or two in an 18.

Short beds should only have the 18 gallon tank. If you got a long bed tank into a short bed, I would like to see that. I know some SWB guys would like to as well.

BEST. UPGRADE. EVER... Got it all swapped and set up this morn. Just went for a drive and boy! Do I have to get used to a very light clutch pedal. But it engages soooo much better and I can drive without keeping my foot on the clutch from loosing pressure in the line. But I think I discovered something. Last night I get the trans separated. I noted how the clutch pressure plate looks due to me braking off a bolt a while back. So I get the new to me flywheel on and NOS clutch package on and noted how much more compressed the pressure plate fingers are. Looking back where the broken bolt was, 3 or 5 fingers were sticking further out than what the others were. I think that was my problem all along without really thinking one bolt would make that much a difference and I will say, it clearly does. Especially when the internal slave was probably working harder than what it was designed to do. Fun stuff though!!

Trans is out, bell house swapped, clutch swapped, NOS clutch hose tow the master swapped in, so far so good. Stopping for the night. Learned that the front bearing retainer bolts on the trans hold oil back so that was a fun little road block.

I’d be willing to do a write up on all the specs and what not of the gas tanks and FSU’s. Would be an invaluable thread with hopes that all those questions could be answered with one topic.

Thats the fathers garage special lol. That hammer has actually proven mighty useful for its stature. What happened was many years ago, my dad was using it and the head fell off and the wood split. So he cut it down and whittled it to fit the head.

The 16 gallon is definitely longer than the 18 gallon tank. But the 23 and 16 gallon are one in the same tank only with the fuel "baffle" being different to let less or more fuel in. Once the light returns tomorrow morn I will edit the main post with the pic of the 23 gallon. @Torq_Shep, not sure if you installed the tank yet but would you mind providing us the dimensions of this lovely tank I sold ya?

Actually I don't have a good pic of the internal to an 18. But I will say its the exact same, but it fills more direct rather than the fill tube on the 16/23 being curved toward the slosh pan.

I often dream that Chrysler did the right thing and kept the first one, or at least AMC doing so with both the first XJ and MJ. I am willing to bet they are either A, in the Romney family or B, somewhere in Chryslers storage.
