No you don’t need the kit. You can shorten the wire. Now the one thing the kit does have is the grommet for the wire out the firewall but I suppose one could use anything else.
-
Yeah it’s pretty neat. Not sure why it wasn’t done early on but something tells me this fix is a literal foreshadow to aftermarket parts being crap.
-
Well the fix was to eliminate weak signal from the wire to the ECU itself. It has to travel from the CPS to the connector, through the firewall to the ECU which can result in signal drop. Now I do suppose you could keep the connector just in case if the new one fails but shortening the length of wire is said to help with the issue of the signal being weak. I have half the kit somewhere or the full kit. One of the two.

Yes. Legit fix from Chrysler where the kit would allow you to drill a hole in the firewall and do the modification that way.

Rare Jeep Spottings that are not Comanches
eaglescout526 replied to AnotherOldJeepGuy's topic in The Pub
These are the only other Jeeps I have seen and I’ve seen the blue honcho twice, white one once and the SJ waggy twice. They’re trying to sell it. Also I’m throwing in some AMCs that you don’t see often. There’s 3 AMXs that are always there which is fricken awesome but when’s the last time you saw an ambassador: Or a matador And my friends chopped gremlin Seen this J-truck in the wild And saw a pacer in a yard Thats all I’ve seen minus MJs. -

It is a shame. I was hoping with some braking they would go away or at least the smoothness clean up but they did not. -
Gas tank plastic/skid plates

I have a plastic one. I remember I had a long bed one that had the end cap that sold for I think easily $100 and I have a short bed one that’s missing the 7ft cut off line and the curved piece. Fun fact, short bed ones are made from long bed ones, they are just cut down, hence that line….which I don’t think I have a picture of at all. Honestly, not detrimental to have but nice protection. -

Did the drum brakes on the Eagle today. I had inspected them back in October and knew they needed to be addressed soon and decided today is that day! Yeahhhhh I hoped to get some life back into them but they neglected to do such. Heres when I inspected them Not too bad, some life on them left. Pretty sure they got slightly worse as I used the Eagle more. Out with the old and in with the newish set. -
Send it to GM and let them know that their smog era pile of crap lasted that long. I’m impressed.

@ghetdjc320 is the one who was making them.

I don’t think radio is one that was reused. I know Pete deleted some that were reused which is why some of those codes are blank. As far as what radio was stock is a great question since there was so many. But given it says AM/FM/MTR could be a fancy unit. I THINK MTR stands for Magnetic Tape Reader which could be cassette. Unless there’s a code out there that says cassette.

I can’t say no to such.

Chrysler should’ve never discontinued the chief packages on either. Nothing says “I command the road and trails” like those graphics. -

Hahaha awesome. We have some time. Just sucks that the Jeep version of these body moldings are actually bigger. I also need to go get some chrome that will fit in those groves -

You know, I think that’s just comes with owning AMCs in general. I think my MJ has harmed me more times than the XJ and Eagle. And the Eagle has mostly been smooth sailing. -

We are now back to a 4wd eagle! Woot. Came at a price of one smashed finger. Boo. Anyways I blew up the CV that was on the pass side. Carter informed me that the aftermarket scene makes them too short and that early S10s will work. So i picked up a used one, cleaned it up, nor torn rubber boots, good to install and man was the eagle fighting back. At first the allen hex bolts were refusing to come out via strength. Ok ill try impact. No go. Ok time to bust out the heat. Heat got all but one loose. The last one really really fought me until enough heat got it to where it released and came out. New one went in, torqued everything down and went for a test drive. I could feel 4wd being engaged, went around corners as thats how I blew up the first one and all good! Now the S10 threads are a little longer than what the eagle is supposed to be but thats ok for now. -
Gradual power loss
eaglescout526 replied to Roger Slater's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Should have a 4.10 ratio out back. Then again. It is 86 so it could be 3.73. But shouldn’t be that bad on power. Both my MJ and XJ are the same engine and transmission, MJ is 4.10 and XJ is 3.73 but the MJ definitely is faster. But I know the 2.5 isn’t that gutless. Better than GMs iron duke and VWs 2.2L that AMC used in the late 70’s early 80’s. -

Gradual power loss

Hold on there. That’s for 4.0Ls. 2.5Ls need to have 15psi at the throttle body. Any higher and it would run rich and bypass the regulator. Or tear through the regulator. I had a failing fuel pump do something similar. I’d drive around just fine for a bit, but until everything warmed up is when issues would start. Shutting off and repriming the pump helped but it was an issue I didn’t want to constantly fight with. -
Fair enough. Those were probably the first years to go at cash for clunkers.
