She looks rough. Wouldn't spend over 1k on it and that's assuming it could at least crank over. Selling wise, it's a 2wd so other than the trim package not desirable. Not sure what your market is but at least in CO 2wd XJs go for about 1-3k.

The knock off aluminum rads fail.....a lot. There's a reason the mishimotos are stupid expensive, but still not 100%. Open conversion is easy should be a write up in DIY section. As for a new pressure bottle. I believe you can use the Volvo one. Add replace mine years ago and I'm pretty sure that's what I did. Also echo what others have said about getting your own tools. Harbor frieght is great for decent and cheap tools. You don't need to have a full on tool box but a couple hundred bucks there sets uou up nicely. Good simple hands tools work wonders.

Project fatigue sucks. Only way I've figured out a way to stave it off it is having a car that I don't have/want to work on that I need to depend on, just a simple driver. That way I can chip away on the project in spare time. If you got a long list of "to do's" get's to be tough because you just want to enjoy it. Only project I've regretted selling was my old K5, needed some little things but had so much done and I didn't drive it much. Decided to sell it to help buy a house still kick myself. I will say the feeling of accomplishing and enjoying a project is an awesome feeling.

Recommendations for Speakers
Smokeyyank replied to Warren99's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I put kickers in my MJ and WJ. For the money decent speakers, not the best but they do good. Look on ebay or crutchfield for open box items as those can save you some cash. I put about $500 in my system for all new speakers, deck, amp, sub and wiring to give you an idea. I went with open box and refurb to keep cost low. -
Project “Tomahawk”

I have a single 8" hooked up to a 5ch amp. Does decent enough. Wanted to feel the double bass when listening to metal. I mounted it behind the center console and have no issues. I did make sure to get a shallow mount. It definitely needs sounds deadening and to tune my EQ. -
Kill switch DIY sticky?

Good call on the spare relay. Might be the way to go. Thanks for the info. -
Kill switch DIY sticky?

Cool idea, my worry would be the remote not working or battery pooing out. -
Kill switch DIY sticky?
Smokeyyank replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Appreciate the info. This is pretty much what I'm looking for. Really just want a horn to go off as an alert. -
My 92 has a bench and I can't stand it. IMHO too big for the MJ. Compared to my 88 with buckets the bench feels a lot more crammed. I prefer buckets in general, adds like 30hp to my butt dyno. Plus nice having the center console.

Kill switch DIY sticky?
Smokeyyank replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's what I was thinking. Wasn't sure if it would be a simple add on or require more. Thanks! That's what I was leaning towards. My neighbor a few doors down had their XJ swiped last year. Was a few junkies that used it to go on a robbery spree and god only knows what else. Just want something to at least not make it easy if it was to ever happen. Is there a good writeup with some info on doing that? -
I'll preface all this with electrical stuff isn't my strength so easier the better. I'm looking to install a simple but effective kill switch. Looked through some old threads and seems there are several ways. Wondering if there is sticky somewhere or what's the favorite option for accomplishing this? It would be on a 88. Seems the fuel cut off is a fairly easy one and what I'm leaning towards. Bonus points if there is a way to connect an air horn/siren that would be triggered.

Engine swap options? Help me decide
Smokeyyank replied to JRappleguy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Keep the 4.0 and ax15. Only V8 swap worthwhile is a LS. Others can be done but there's a reason LS swap are popular. Dollar per HP nothing comes close. Strongest jeep rear would be a d44 but they aren't cheap. 8.25 is a solid choice. Gears will give you a nice little pep. You could get a rear from an auto that will bump to 3.55. -
Chrysler MJs (91-92), 2wd projects pics request
Smokeyyank replied to JRappleguy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm loosely in the same boat. Snagged a 92 2wd that haven't decided a direction. Once I get it as a solid runner eventually would be looking to do a sport truck with it and swap to a 5spd, but with how often I change directions who knows. The street comanche kit would be cool too and unique. I will say I totally dig @CaptainPatchy ride and I think is a solid option to maintain the stock look but cool af. As for modernizing a Bluetooth receive w/decent stereo, cup holders, single window upgrade and some other things would be my choice. I'm a fan of the OG look vs the 97 swap and interior. Then there's the flip side that's wicked intense with what @Awinski did. -

Tires and engine! -
Between 500-800 used is what I've seen. Lower side tends to need something higher side in good condition.

Wanted to sample a few flavors. For a while had more cars than years I've been driving, balanced out maybe three years ago.. Although the current WJ is close to holding the record for the longest I've owned a vehicle continuously. My 88 MJ I've had the longest but sold it and bought it back.

I've had over 20. Bulk of those jeeps. 3 XJs, 2 WJs, 3 MJs, CJ7, 72 commando, X5, 325i, Benz c350, 3 K5s(74,75,89), Honda Accord, HHR SS, scion xb, GX460, 4runner, eclipse, integra and some others I don't remember.

Parts needed for a waggy header
Smokeyyank replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Great, thanks. -
ha ha, I can only imagine what the "true" cost is. Figured that was just pulling an engine and tossing it in. No rebuilding or a lot of the other things to be done right.

Tommy Boy. On the road to bad decisions...
Smokeyyank replied to derf's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Looking forward to seeing it come along! -
How much money you willing to drop? If you're not comfortable doing a lot of fab work and spending 6-10k keep the 4.0. Do cruiser54 tips, regear it, drive.

Parts needed for a waggy header
Smokeyyank replied to Smokeyyank's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'll have to make a harness. Do you know any part numbers or have a good source for plugs and such? -
Past weekend I picked up a waggy header. What all is needed to get this on the MJ? There are no lights or harness.
