Noise I can’t pin down
ghetdjc320 replied to ghetdjc320's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Also have new front and rear driveshafts and u joints to eliminate that as a cause -
Been dealing with a weird noise for a few months now. It first started on a 500 mile drive from Arkansas to Texas. It is frequent but doesn’t have a definite rhythm. It sounds like a bearing going bad. Kind of a lite metal grinding noise almost like a bad u joint. It starts around 20 mph and comes and goes at random intervals. Here Are some more details: new front and rear gears (revolution 4.56) with bearings rear has a truetrac and revolution chronology shafts just replaces the rear axle bearings and seals replaced front unit bearings rebuilt transfer case engine has about 8000 miles since full build new axle shaft u joints Tried transfer case in neutral and ran transmission through all gears (aw4). Tried jacking up rear and running it while listening for noises. Transmission oil is very clean and at the proper level. I am at a loss as to what this noise is. I’m grasping at straws but please let me know if you have any ideas. Also, keep in mind that I’m in Guam so specialized tools are not readily available. thanks in advance!

'91 diesel conversion

Too bad he didn’t finish it. It would be worth a good amount to the right buyer. -

Looks simple enough. Thanks!

Interesting design. So is it supposed to weld in place like the old one?
-
Following. I haven’t tried the new style. Could you post up some pictures of what you have and the part number. I used some nos hinges for my drivers door along with the reinforcement plates from hooligans off-road. Now my passenger side needs to be done.

Correct voltage while running?
ghetdjc320 replied to ruralandalone's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I run an external voltage regulator and keep it set to 14.5. Works great and gives plenty of power to my electric fans and headlights -
Replacement door hinges

How are they different or what needs to be done to interchange? I was planning on cutting of my hinges and installing the reinforcement plate along with new ones. -

Yep, that 90 can be found at almost any auto parts store On the shelves by the vacuum hoses. -
Replacement door hinges
ghetdjc320 replied to ghetdjc320's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That’s what I was wondering as well. I saw the sets for the rear doors and they look the same when looking at the pictures. Perhaps someone could shed some light on this. -
I replaced my drivers side door hinges and added the reinforcement plate. Works great and was able to find the oem hinges from teamcherokee.com. Now my passenger side is going out and would like to do the same thing but can’t find any hinges. If anyone knows where to get an oem set that would be great. If not, what hinge pins will fit if I rebuilt it?

I can’t emphasize enough how much I like this mod. It works great and ads some real functionality. On to more electrical mods now!
-
True, but my license plate is mounted to my receiver hitch. I mounted the backup cam just below the tailgate handle and it works perfect there
-
Here are the final results. Everything works excellent and the center vent blows plenty of air. Plenty of trimming needed but all in all not to bad. I did not need to widen the opening for this head unit so I have about a 1/8” gap but it looks just fine and very clean.

Anyone have some hinges out there?
-
Thanks! Just waiting on the equipment now for the install. Going to mount the backup cam to the tailgate if i can get it to look clean enough.
-
I also picked up some adhesive backed felt at Home Depot (yep we have one here on Guam!) for the vents. It works awesome and takes up and slack or flop in the vents

Ok so here is an update. The conversion is ready to go. I must say, there is a lot of small things to mod but you can keep your hvac controls, center and install a double din unit. Here are some pics:

Just got the springs in from JW Jeep. Not to bad a shape. Knocked out the bushings and cleaned them up really well. Sprayed them with rustoleum industrial gloss black. Hope to have them installed by tomorrow. Thanks!

I’ve been looking for a good switch plate too. I think I might have a sign company make a new one for me.

Need of pair of door hinges for my 91. It’s the passenger side. Managed to find a new set for the drivers side but now the passenger side is going out and I can’t find any more.
