Conroe / woodlands area of Montgomery County Tx here; aside from flippers, mechanics, and owners of renix / OBD1 era jeeps... The mj doesn't raise too many eyebrows. Though I had a funny interaction when getting it title'd & reg'd, clerk said jeep doesn't make trucks. I even read a post on here that their clerk said the same thing. My response was I'll bet yeah the taxes & fees that jeep does. Even went as far as pointing out that it was the third character in the VIN that legally distinguished it from suv's. IJ7 vs IJ4

CPS failure
JeepSchmidt O'Guinness replied to Eagle_SX4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Had one fail on my 95 xj at about 45mph on a HW once. Engine just died. It was before I knew what any symptoms / diag procedures were. So not sure if the cps failed or just backed the bolts out. This was back when the cps was still dealer available, and a new cps fixed the no crank condition. -
Recommended fuel pump brand(s)
JeepSchmidt O'Guinness replied to mark 39's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Does anything look amiss regarding fuel pump relay, auto shut off relay, fuel pump ballast relay (not sure if renix eletrical even has that relay) or the c101 connector at the fire wall. Does the ground for the fuel pump located behind the tail light look secure/clean? My experience with intermittent issues is normally wiring not being secured... -
blown motor
JeepSchmidt O'Guinness replied to BEEDOSAUCE's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Didn't see it suggested yet, make sure ya have all the air out of the cooling system to address the overheating. But comp/leakdown test are wise to make sure the overheating haven't caused head/piston damage. -
So the ecm has fault code 54, sync signal. Checked grounds and 8volt supply are good. Rotated the the crank pully by hand and the sensor shows 5v when the pulse ring engages the sync pick up and 0v when leaving the pick up. But when cranking, it stays at a constant 5v using analogue meter. I decided to upgrade to the 94+ dizzy to avoid punching the ring pin and removing dizzy gear just to replace the sensor. Issue with the aftermarket 94+ is the housing doesn't line up with the hold down bolt. Yes its a china made O'Reilly's pos. Does anybody know of a model that is clocked correctly? Searched local pnp's but nothing near me. Do I chance a reman and hope its clocked correctly by said underpaid worker? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Distributor Wiring MIA

The connecting hose from pump to feed pipe in the tank is notorious for liquifying if it's not a submersable grade line. Basically it won't stay connencted / hold pressure. Pull the pump assembly and go from there. -

Need a second opinion on this color.
JeepSchmidt O'Guinness replied to 512tr's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never been a fan of matching interior/extior color, my ocd kicks in because it's never a perfect duplication. Other then that I think your tan / black scheme should look good. -

But that's at least an 18v battery, better add another 50 ft-lbs ... -
That T-fitting above the gas tank is for fuel evap system which should connet to a thin metal line routed along the other fuel lines then goes up the fire wall then connects to vacuum hose over/behind the engine to the charcoal canister. Its hard to tell from the shadows in your pic, but that looks about the right length to be said line.

Strange rumble under the floorboards
JeepSchmidt O'Guinness replied to Billabob's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In park/neutral raise rpm's to about 2,000 - 2,500. If the sound presents itself my money would be the internals of the catalytic converter. Try this on cold start and operating temperatures. -

Does the fuel pump share the ground behind the passenger tail light housing? -
My OE tank developed a few rust pin holes, so I ordered a new one before dropping the origional. Ordered this simply for convienence... https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Fuel-86-92-Comanche-Gallon/dp/B078Z1VM1G Switching over hoses now and noticed a difference in the filler neck; the OE seems to have a continuing pipe down to the sump where as the replacement just stops at the wall of the tank. Would love to get y'alls thoughts / opinions on future issues from the lack of a guide pipe to the sump.

Exhaust rebuild on 86 XLS 2.8L V6
JeepSchmidt O'Guinness replied to DzienManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 2.8 was in a lot of different vehicles, how different could the y-tube be? I had a surplus police model 86 Chevy Celebrity in high school. Only found that info out when I went to order a fuel pump and the guy asked in tank or auxiliary? -
Electric swatters only stun and piss'em off, in my experience at least. I like brake / carb cleaner; melts their wings. Though be mindful of the fire hazard.
