I had never actually thought about how much I have put into my comanche before. Then I read this post and started crunching numbers in my head....I now want to cry.
Merry Christmas everybody! I don't know how I lucked out, but my days off landed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year so I will be home with the family. Hope the rest of you are as lucky and find yourselves with family during the holidays.
The 4 link works decent on the street. It has a lot of body roll on corners but other than that it does good. It's mostly a trail rig nowadays, it's only street time is going to and from where I wheel.
Thanks for the compliments. I will look into ZJ coils, I wouldn't mind having the rear a little stiffer.
I agree with everybody, not the greatest show. I did find it entertaining though, and will continue to record it. It's better than what else is on at 0300 hours...working night shift ruins your days off.
I went with a 4 link rear suspension and no longer need these ones. If your interested you can have them at no charge, just cover shipping. PM if interested.
The best steering upgrade is the WJ knuckle conversion. I am slowly gathering parts to do it myself. Paired with the ruff stuff GM crossover steering you get strength, better steering, and better brakes.
I responded to your PM. I would think a fuel cell would be much easier to just mount in the bed. I think I only paid around 150 bucks for my Summit 20 gallon fuel cell and that came with a sending unit for a fuel gauge.
If you plan on wheeling it then I would buy the best lift you can afford. Buy once, cry once!
I went with the Clayton pro series 3 link in the front. I believe it's money well spent.
Before my recent overhaul I used to run 33s on about 4 inches of lift with cut fenders. Even with cut fenders the tires would still rub like crazy off-road.
Couple of quick pics.
Front Artec truss tied into Clayton bridge. Won't break again.
Gusseted the rear four link crossmember.
A little more tube work to the bed cage.
It's a work in progress, more pics to follow.
I will be needing a new steering setup as well, stock one is pretty maxed out. After some research it seems as if the WJ steering swap is the best bet. You get upgraded steering and brakes at the same time.
I don't see a problem with you making the rig 4X4, if that's what u want...doesn't mean your hacking it up.
I personally have no desire to own a 2 wheel drive Jeep.
