Door lock cylinder issue
M1A1TankerTom replied to buck987si's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I ran into this problem. When I bought my truck the PO told me the door locks were broken and gave me the same door locks that you bought. They obviously will not work. So I ended up sucking it up and ordered a OEM set from teamcherokee.com. They were expensive, I think like 40 bucks for the set with keys and they worked perfect. I just checked their site and they are out of stock right now. I guess the other option is getting some from the junk yard if you can find one that has the keys. -
4.0L tick, tick, ticking
M1A1TankerTom replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
an exhaust leak will tick like crazy...trust me, I'm on my fourth manifold :( -
I ordered an ACC molded rubber flooring for my comanche but have not yet installed it yet. When I first recieved it I took it out of the box and it seemed to look like it was molded perfectly for a Comanche...but like I said I have not tried to put it in yet.

33x10.5 vs 33x12.5
M1A1TankerTom replied to M1A1TankerTom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
thanks for the help guys, I think I'm gonna place my order for some 33x10.5 BFG KM2's today. -
its time for some new tires. I am currently running 32x11.5's and am wanting to step up to some 33's. I really wanted to get some Trxus MT's but due to price I think I am going to run some BFG KM2's. So I am debating whether I should get 33X10.5 or 33X12.5. What do you guys think? Pros? Cons? What are you running? In all honesty I am kinda leaning twoard the 10.5's but my mind is not made up so I want your help!

why all the hatred twoards 4wheelparts??? I have done business with my local 4 wheelparts store and have been nothing but happy. The manager always cuts me a lower price and they do great work, is this rare compared to other 4wheelparts stores?

here are some different pics, you can see the progres along the way. It now sits with an OD green paint, 32 inch tires, 4.5 inch lift, JCR front bumper with winch, poly motor mounts, adjustable rancho 9000 shocks, adjustable upper control arms, rock krawler hd trackbar, eauto headlight harness, IPF H4 headlights housings, and soon to have front D30 4.88 lock right with spicer 5-760x u joints and roughstuff diff cover, rear D44 4.88 detroit locker with roughstuff diff cover just a couple pics that I have taken along the way, will take some more when the truck is back together!

its not a dedicated trail rig, I drive this thing to work every other day (10 minute drive). I don't see why it wouldnt handle on the road, I know tons of people running lunch box lockers front and rear in not just comanches but rigs with a lot shorter wheel base than a comanche which would make steering even harder. What about my combo makes you think I need 35's? If you are refering to the 4.88's they will be perfect, I am currently running 32's and will have 33's in the near future. With the AW4 and 4.88's I will be under 3000 rpms at 60 mph wich is just fine for the 4.0

soooo...after many months and many changes of plans I finally got my axles set up the way I want. I have a 94 cherokee front D30 and a 90 Comanche rear D44. I originally was thinking I was going to put OX lockers and 4.56 gears but decided I didnt want to sink that much money into the comanche. Then I was going to go with Aussie in both the front and rear but after being on back order for over FOUR MONTHS and recieving HORRIBLE customer service I canceled my order with them. Now I come to today, I just picked up my axles from the 4wheelparts shop with 4.88 gears with detroit locker in the rear and a lock right in the front! Just had to share this news with my fellow Comanche lovers...can't wait to get these bad boys thrown under the truck and see how she wheels!

I would take Toyo axles over stock CJ axles anyday, been checking out some CJ forums and the word is the early CJ axles were pretty much junk.

now my Comanche has another Jeep to snuggle with in the driveway. Picked this up a couple weeks back. -1968 Jeep CJ5 -Dauntless V6 (20,000 miles on a rebuild) -SM420 Tranny -Toyota 8 inch axles (4.10 gears, disk brakes, ARB locker in the rear, locking hubs) -SOA lift -YJ Springs -Marlin Crawler 4.70:1 t-case -aftermarket fuel tank (22 gallons) -35 inch tires -on board air -custom front bumper -custom rear bumper with swing out tire carrier and mounted back up lights -custom family rollcage -mounted tool box in tub bed -rear corner tub armor -rocker armor -custom tranny/t case cage -tilt steering column plus its my favorite color...green! Came with a full soft top and a bikini top and half doors also. Runs like a champ so far.

ya tires are bfg all terrains I'm looking for more of something I can wheel than drive on the highways, the guys says it will do 70 all day on the highways but thats about the top speed. Says no wobble on the street. I'm not too worried about its road characteristics, as long as it could make it to work and back. As for the price I checked all of california craigslist ads for cj5's. seems to actually be a decent price for one in good condition. I have found a lot of them asking higher prices that don't seem as nice. Why do you think he went with toyota axles?
-
ya i was hoping for 4.5K. Wondering what you guys think of the rig...look like a good rig? Look like some good upgrages? You think it will wheel good? Drive on highway good? Any opinions are appreciated!
-
hey guys I might pick up this CJ5 this weekend, want you all to take a look and let me know your honest opinion. Thanks. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/2173648075.html

well after waiting a couple months due to backorders, I was told by aussie that my front and rear lockers should be shipping in the next week. I just wanted to check with everybody before I found out the hard way...I have a 94 non disco dana 30 with abs from a cherokee that I am planning on putting under the front of my 89 comanche. The 94 D30 will go in with no problems right? I know the ABS won't work but other than that everything should go in without a hitch I'm guessing. Let me know your thoughts and tips.
-
if I do order one I will take pics. Other than that I'm sure they will have pics on their site once they put it up for sale.
-
hey guys, just wanted to let you know that I emailed hanson about the comanche bumper and they said it is currently available for pre order over the phone only at this time. The email also said that the bumper will come with a license plate mount!
-
I like it, I do think for 500 bones it should come with a spot to mount your license plate and license plate lights. Other than that though it looks like a good solid bumper. I also would like to see more pics of the constructions of the bumper.

Is this a good deal?
M1A1TankerTom replied to 1990 Pioneer 4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs

how much lift do I have?
M1A1TankerTom replied to M1A1TankerTom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
thanks for the advice guys, I'm gonna order my Rock Krawler 3 link long arm and just run it with the lift I have. Pete made the most sense....no need to lift my center of gravity for no real reason. -
how much lift do I have?
M1A1TankerTom replied to M1A1TankerTom's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't really NEED more lift but I figured if I'm going to install a long arm upgrade I might as well throw some larger springs in at the same time and gain some more clearance. Although I could always install the long arm upgrade and keep the springs I am running now and save a little cash for something else :) Ahhhh decisions decisions.....
