  1. so after having some steering issues recently I threw some new parts on the comanche today. Installed all 4 new tie rod ends, new steering stabilizer, new wheel bearings/hubs, new 760 u joints, new ball joints, and all 4 new bilstein shocks. Thing rides like a dream now! Just thought I would share :)
  2. I love mine cuz it out wheels all of my buddies wranglers and when I'm on the trail everybody comes up to my comanche and say "wow, is that a Comanche...thats sweet".
  3. guess it helps when you ground the headlights...problem solved :)
  4. hmmm....well today was the first time I actually went to drive the comanche since I did the front end swap and my head lights won't come on. I checked them both in high and low beams and they don't work at all but all the running lights and blinker lights come on. I checked all the wiring and everything is plugged in. I am gonna get all new fuses/relays tomorrow...if that doesnt work then I have no idea :(
  5. skidoo...your posts about guns make me want to cry. Just say you don't like glocks, but don't give a newbie bad info. After 7 years in the Army and the last 4 years as a LEO I would highly recomend a glock to anybody. Not saying its the best gun in the world but its a damn good weapon. If you have a proper holster you can carry a glock with a round chambered. I carry a G26 everyday off duty and a G17 on duty. I am sure every gun manufacturer in the world has had numerous kabooms so lets not just pick on glocks. Not trying to be an @$$ but I have heard untrue info given to newbs and then they take it to heart. bottom line is a gun is a tool. Decide what you want to use it for and try a bunch out. Whats good for you is not good for the next guy. Some will fit you better than others and you will shoot better with certain ones. The most important thing I can say is to GET TRAINING! You can have all the guns in the world but if you don't know how to properly use them they are worthless. Search the internet and find a reputable firearms training school in your area and plop down some of your hard earned cash and get trained. oh ya...and welcome to the addiction of guns. The gun bug has as bad of a bite as the Jeep bug :)
  6. got wedged between two trees, had to back out. Caught the corner of the headers and ripped it off.
  7. its just camo rattle can OD green
  8. well after wheeling last weekend I did this to my comanche Image Not Found so after a trip to pick and pull I was able to upgrade the front end to a newer 97+ cherokee front end. I also removed the AC condenser and installed a B&M tranny cooler. With the condenser out of the way of the radiator I should run a little cooler in the temp department, I also routed the tranny lines to the tranny cooler only and bypassed the radiator so I'm hoping that helps keep the radiator temps lower as well. Anyways...here's some pics of the newer front end. I love how it looks :)
  9. ya the plate i added later, used a hinged license plate mount of an older chevy car that had gas filler cap behind the plate. That way I can mount the plate up high on the bumper to keep it out of the way of getting banged up while wheeling but I can flip it down when I drop the tailgate.
  10. any front bumper that fits a cherokee will fit a comanche. Rear bumpers have to be comanche specific and you really don't have a lot of options. Look around the forum, seems like some new options are emerging for comanche rear bumpers. Although I don't know how popular the tube stuff is, might make your search a little harder. here is a pic of my front bumper made by JCR and here is a pic of my rear bumper I had made by a local fabricator. He is willing to make and ship if interested. His email is: balterbuilt@yahoo.com
  11. Northern California...in between Ukiah and Lakeport. http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/ukiah/cowmtn.html
  12. Did 7 years in the US Army now work in law enforcement (deputy)
  13. went wheeling this morning out at Cow Mountain. Was pretty fun, a lot of thick ice/water crossings. Only took one pic today but figured I would throw it up and share it.
  14. steel looks to be 3/16 thick. I don't know what would need to be done to make this an official "towing" bumper. I would tow something light and not far with this bumper if I had to, but I know it could be made beefier if you intended on doing a lot of towing. Here are some pics of the mounting points that were requested. I really need to get rid of that stock spare tire! Also while I was crawling around snapping photos of the mounting points I couldnt help snap a photo of my rear axle that I don't think I ever posted on here. Dana 44, ruffstuff diff cover, 4.88 gears, detroit locker. Front axle is a HP D30, ruffstuff cover, 4.88, and lockrite.
  15. sorry I wasnt able to take pics of mounting points today...ill try in the morning. He had a shop bend the steel, apparantly he uses the same shop for all his steel and bends so they give him pretty good pricing. I don't know what he would charge for shipping but I know he said he was willing to ship. If anybody is interested I encourage you to send him an email. He is a nice guy and will answer any questions you have.
  16. yup, 4.5 inch lift and 33 inch tires. not 100% on the brand of the lift cuz it was installed by PO. But it had Rubicon Express stickers plastered all over it...doesnt prove anything though. As for the tires they are 33x10.5 BFG KM2's.
  17. ya I can take more pics, it will have to wait till tomorrow when the sun comes back up.
  18. Ya, like I said I do not intend to tow with this bumper. My Comanche drives to work and wheels, I have never towed with it nor do I plan to. If somebody was interested in contacting balterbuilt@yahoo.com to have him build you a bumper he will build you WHATEVER you want. If you want a bumper to tow with he will build you one. I on the other hand did not need a towing bumper. I could not wait so I just got done throwing the painted bumper back on the truck. Looks damn good in my opinion. Pretty damn beefy too! Thought I would show off my lisence plate bracket that I snagged of a 70's chevy car that had the fuel tank behind the plate. This way I can mount the plate up high and won't tear it off while wheeling but can still flip it down when I need to use the tailgate.
  19. ya I don't tow anything, he didnt want to put a tow receiver at all but I figured I would have him put one just in case. I know this bumper is not for towing.
  20. should have pics of it painted tomorrow....while I'm waiting for it to dry and posting pics figured I would throw some pics up of my two Jeeps for the hell of it! Image Not Found
  21. I finally got around to getting a rear bumper built for my 89 Comanche. After checking out the internet and seeing the prices of pre built options (not many) I decided to hunt down a fab guy and have one built. I finally found a guy in Santa Rosa, CA that does work out of his garage. After seeing pics of his previous jobs and seeing his own wheelers I decided he was the best guy I had checked out so I dropped the Comanche off and told him to build me a bumper. I told him I wanted to keep it pretty simple but I wanted it to wrap around the sides for some armor also. Posted pics below of what he built me. Charged me $425. Its currently sitting in my garage with paint drying on it as I type. Will post some more pics of it painted soon. I think he did one hell of a job. Told me that if he built another one it would probably be around $500 or so due to it being more work than he thought. He told me if anybody else wanted one he would be willing to build and ship. If you guys are interested his email is: balterbuilt@yahoo.com This bumper is solid! Let me know what you think.
  22. same thing happened to me, turned out to be the manifold bolts were loose. Tightened em up and it went away.
  23. yay, i won a free glock! Thanks for the help guys. The ended the contest a few hours early because one of thier competitors filed a complaint against them. Apparantly it is illegal to have these types of contests on facebook. So the guy turned them in. They said it wasnt anything major but they did have to contact thier lawyers over the whole thing. So anyways they ended the contest early and gave me and the other guy that was tied with me both a free glock 40 cal. Thanks again for everybody that helped me out!
  24. well guys, the contest ends tomorrow at noon. If you havent helped me out yet please feel free to do so, if you have helped me out i really appreciate it. I'm in second place right now, down by about 12 votes. Thanks again everybody!
